This is a classic example of how you can’t cherrypick history, no matter how significant or insignificant it is. “What-ifs” can be interesting, maddening and downright Shakespearean. Anyone can find a scapegoat, a villain, if things don’t go their way.

the marlins were just a better team than we realized or their record said they were...miggy was a rookie ...had he been active all year they win over 100 games and this isn't an upset....i mean come on miggy pug lowell hollandsworth lee encarnacion castillo pierre conine gonzalez mordecai....thats a murder's row of names in their primes to go with beckett redman pavano penny looper urbina fox and willis pitching...

The Marlins were just better that year. Their roster had a buncha guys looking back, who either were already really good or on the verge of breaking out.

If wasn’t going to be Bartman it would have been something else in the World Series. I’m a Philly fan we know a thing or two about cursed teams.

What happened to Mark Prior? The "Can't Miss Kid?" Never the same pitcher.

Lol, Cubs were up 3 games to 1 in the 2003 NLCS and they choked. Bartman was simply a convenient scapegoat for Cub fans.

    • @razkable

It wasn't even that close...they lost game 1 in extras 11 innings by 1 and scored 8 runs....they basically had beaten the marlins so bad for 4 games they should of swept them...they outscored them 25 to 10 over 3 wins...then they forgot how to hit for a game and then pitch for 2.5 games....sadly

Come on Dan, no clip of the prank phone call? That segment was a tease.
I was the one who punked Captain Janks before his prank phone call to Sportscenter to Dan Patrick. I impersonated Bartman and exchanged emails with Capt Janks. I fed him enough info about Bartman to make the emails credible, and he then used the info to punk Sportscenter.
PS I'm a Notre Dame alum, and tangentially knew Bartman. Thus, the info I was feeding Capt Janks was genuine and credible.
So in the end, not only did ESPN and Dan Patrick get punked, BUT I PUNKED CAPT JANKS IN SETTING UP THE BARTMAN PUNK CALL!!!

As I started to get into baseball I started to pull for the Cubs just because they had won anything that anyone alive could remember. But this particular game, I've been a complete hater of the Chicago Cubs ever since. You singled out one guy, but there's a guy with a grey jacket on as well. And you know who's the real blame here? The Chicago media. They exploited an individual instead of who really was the blame, the sorry ass Chicago Cubs. Because of dropped routine plays, then couldn't strike anyone out, and even one more game to get it done. Nobody knew who Steve Bartman was. When we did, we found that the guy was a youth baseball ⚾ coach, doing something good with his life. He wasn't some bum. He was actually doing something good. The team, the players could have invited him into the club house after to deflect all the hate. They didn't. And this Moses guy is still running his mouth. Well Chicago, you got your World Series Championship. I hope it was worth it because you still suck. On my deathbed I'll pass away happy knowing that now the Chicago Cubs has a new curse. It'll be 200 year old curse called the Bartman Curse. The longer it goes the sweeter it'll be. Grown ass people not only blaming a single person when they were several people reaching for that ball, then sending death threats to a guy over a stupid baseball game. If none of the Chicago professional teams win a championship again, it would be the best revenge that Karma could bring.

Dan, you and the media (Tribune/Sun-Times) plus Alou's childish reaction destroyed this man's life. He's been out of the radar for a reason, stop talking about him.

    • @Mrd9960

What I always wanted to know was, how the hell did his personal info get out there? He was just another person going to a baseball game before this happened, like how did people find out his name and where he lived? I think Someone who knew him personally ratted on him, a neighbor, family member, someone, makes no sense other wise.
