Zacchaeus' Story

- In the Zacchaeus story where Jesus is passing through Jericho, Zacchaeus famously climbs a sycamore tree. And, Jesus, without hesitation (and almost with a bit of humor) invites himself to Zacchaeus' house to dine with him.
Interestingly, in the Zacchaeus story, Jesus says something strange after Zacchaeus, a chief tax collector, repents and fulfills the law of making restitution for his theft: Jesus says that "salvation has come to this house, since he also is a son of Abraham" (Luke 19:9).
Why does Jesus say this? And what does the Zacchaeus story tell us about the mission of Jesus in the Gospels?

Gate Keeper I’m a former New Ager as well. I used to practice occult spirituality before the Lord revealed himself to me. Though I’m catholic now, it’d be sad to see the church be used as a vessel for the anti-Christ. May I ask, are you catholic too or just Christian? I haven’t met too many new Agers who’ve been saved so it’d be interesting to understand your story.

I am also reminded of St. Paul’s statement in Galatians 3:7 “Understand, then, that those who have faith are children of Abraham.” Perhaps one more reason Jesus says that Zacchaeus is also a son of Abraham is because he had faith in the son of God when he said he would give half his possessions to the poor and repay anyone he had cheated.
Curious question: why was collecting taxes sinful in the Jewish Community?
As I understand it, primarily it was the underhanded theft that was taking place (going above any beyond what should be taxed with nobody but the overlords who are taking more than they should via Jewish tax collectors to report said theft to).
@@CatholicProductions gotcha. Because it seems any tine there is mention of tax collectors, they are deemed sinful, so perhaps there were some tax collectors that werent taking more, but they just arent mentioned in the Scripture?
For some reason I have this deep desire in my heart to chop down a tree and ask to have a crucifix made.
Jesus came unto his own 2 places we find Jesus saying he is not here for us (gentile) but for the Jew. When Jesus gave power to his disciples he told them do not go to the gentiles or Samaritans, but rather the lost sheep of Israel. Also, he told a woman, it's not right I take food from the table of the children & cast it to dog/heathens/gentiles. He was the promised one to the house of Abraham. Paul is the one sent to the gentiles, not the 12 Apostles/ Acts 15 & Galatians 2. We even have a different gospel than the Jews. Our gospel is through the death & resurrection of Jesus for our sins. Jews believed that Jesus was the Messiah. "Thou are the Christ the Son of God," Peter spoke this, Mary & Martha spoke this, the Eunice also. Our salvation is Post Ressurection salvation. 1st Corinthians 15:1-4.
Salvation of souls is in the past. Now we have to have the forests.

I tell you the truth, whoever hears my word and believes him ( Jehovah ) who sent me has eternal life and will not be condemned; he has crossed over from death ( spirit world ) to life ( heaven ).
