  • Hey y'all. This week we're switching it up. Since my Botanica deck arrived on Tuesday, I wanted to get this video out as soon as I could. So this week, Wednesday is the miscellaneous video and Saturday will be the trans-related video.
Sorry if this isn't your cup of tea. Trans content will be back on Saturday!

Gotta get my geek on for a minute here. Hope I'm not overstepping. The patch appears to be a representation of common thistle, which has a variety of magickal uses. Carrying thistle strengthens your spirit & vitality (for men it is even said that the vitality boost includes enhancing their abilities as a lover); it also protects the bearer and drives off melancholy.
The charm looks to be a representation of a dandelion that has gone to seed. Dandelion flowers are often used in spells to manifest wishes, including to send a message to a lover: simply blow on the seed head in his direction & visualize your message to them.
Both flowers' energies are more yang than yin, which sometimes is referred to as more masculine than feminine. Beyond the specific uses described above, they can be used in scrying, divination or spirit-calling spells by infusing part of them in boiling water & letting the steam summon or carry messages to you as needed. They both also protect the home: placing dandelion in the northwest corner brings favorable winds, while growing thistle in the garden or keeping it about the house (potted live or dried in sachest/potpurri) protects it from thieves & spirits with ill-intentions.

Actually, looking over the motif of the packaging as well as the card backs again, I think the patch is also a dandelion: this one just before full bloom. It's interesting that they've chosen that to represent the underlying motif of the deck, especially given the dandelion's associations with divination & wishes. Makes me very curious to see what the compendium has to say about the other flowers depicted!
