Credit to him for making the move but I can't see Hamilton winning the team over like Leclerc has - At least Leclerc can speak Italian and banter with the crew. I can also see Hamilton rubbing some folks up at Ferrari the wrong way, they won't let him get away with the same freedoms he had at Mercedes. Love the video!

Based on comments Hamilton's made about it (namely looking to increase 'diversity' at the scuderia) it definitely seems inevitable they'll be some butting of heads. A driver as out-spoken as Hamilton and a team as traditional as Ferrari seems like a match made in hell tbh

@@Evarakeus I thought the same!!! Especially since Ferrari is a glamerous brand, the team is an oldschool one and the structure within Ferrari is conservative. And then Italy itself at the moment is dominated by right wing parties at the moment.
How does hamilton with his open society values and political opinions fit in there? I dont know. Whereas he had any freedoms in Mercedes. And I think especially some of the politically conservative staff wont like him at all.
As you said, match made in Hell.

Good luck to him , but he wont win another championship. He will be lucky to win races. I look at Fernando Alonso. 11 years without even winning a race. Lewis is now the age where the talented young driver will be quicker to react and fearless. Things drivers lose as they age and have more reason to protect themselves. The "indestructible" attitude goes away. Darrell Waltrip put it perfectly when questioned about how his age played into his retirement, " When I started I remembered the wins when I walked into the track. Now I remember the hits and how much they hurt". The end of a drivers career is as much a change of attitude as it is a physical change.

He made excuses about the car in 2022. While Russell got a win and 19 top 5's in it. He started "working on setups" because he was being beaten by Russell. He made those excuses and then hoped George Russell would have an off year in 2023. And he got his wish. Even though Russell still beat him in qualifying in 2023.
Now he has the excuse that Mercedes will focus on George in 2024 because he's leaving. Then he will go to Ferrari and get beat by Leclerc. But he will just hope Leclerc has an off year in 2026. And maybe he will get his wish again. But maybe not. Maybe this transfer to Ferrari will be the biggest dud in modern F1. And it will look good on Elkann.

But in 2023, you fall back to Qualifying results.

Saying that team will be built around Lecler is far-fetched. Ferrari have bought so many engineers from Merc, and Hamilton is bringing a lot more with him.
The team is going to be built around around a driver who brings people and brings big sponsors, and that is Hamilton. Just being there, Hamilton is bringing big bucks to Ferrari.
Also Hamilton won't give way to Max like Lecler does, and that is why he will be preferential driver.

Hamilton will be rembemered as the guy who lost twice in arguble the best car. A fast driver but not capable of developing the car or the team around him. Before he and Wolff arived at Mercedes the heavy lifting was done by Brawn and Schumacher.
Ferrari does now what gave them some succes. Contract a former chamion and hope it will work. The young guns didn't deliver yet.

All people who worked in F1 and who have comented on the role of the premier driver in a team are agreeing on the fact the lead driver points out the development direction. The technical team desings and builds the car to be the fastest possible regarding the preferences of the lead driver. After the initial test/shakedown witch is always performed by the lead driver the first sugestions roll in.
A beautifull example of this work in progress is Max Verstappen at Red Bull. Every free practice there is someting that is not perfect and he naggs and whines about it on the radio. The up- and down-shifts is an issue that is improving over the years but is not being solved yet. I guess everyone still remembers the DRS actuation and flap flexing issues in '21 and '22. The complains were loud and clear. This is only what's on the radio there is so much more that is being hidden in debriefs. So I strongly believe Max Verstappen is currently making the RB20 a better car, not by designing the parts but by providing directional guidance.
