WOW WOW WOW! Amazing vlog. It may take a while but I believe in you both. Your passion to restore this beauty is a driving force full of courage, love and inspiration. Its why I love your guys vlogs. I have to say though, to remember purnons history like how you do is just mind blowing. My upmost respect ❤❤❤❤❤
Thank you so much Frankie
Your historic knowledge makes for great content. Wishing you continued success getting funding and support to restore this magnificent property👏🏻
Thank you so much Britta
So interesting. The chapel must have been stunning in its day. I hope you are successful in saving such a treasure before it’s too late. I so admire your vision and determination to save that gorgeous home. I’m thoroughly enjoying this journey with you. Thank you!
Thank you so much Louise x
@ Sauver cette chapelle et dieu vous le rendra.⌛⏳
Monumental task ahead of you.makes me feel so incapable . All the best to you and your ambitions
It is truly wonderful that you are preserving this magnificent historical property!
thank you so much
The horses and carriages in earlier times were the equivalent of today’s Lamborghini, Rolls Royce and Ferrari, the display of wealth. So the stables were very elegant. 🇦🇺
You have so much history on your hands, it would be ideal to save them on special archival frames.
I am delighted and I am enjoying the time and dedication that you are putting out there to let us know the treasures of this amazing place.
THANK YOU!!!
THANK YOU!!!
Thank you for your message - we're thrilled that you're enjoying our journey.
It’s beautiful I hope that’s the next roof job to restore that that’s so historic look at the craftsmanship
Thank you for sharing this with us. It is an amazing building and I hope it can be saved.
In England in the city where I used to work about 1967, the Cathedral was under going much needed stablization work. Chichester Cathedral was slowly subsiding due to a large amount of water in the ground under it. I remember the scaffolding and support and being told that they were pumping out water from under the cathedral and at the same rate and pressure, concrete? was being pumped into its place. It made a big impression on me as a teenager.
I tried to find something online about this work sadly I was unable to. Chichester Cathedral in West Sussex, England.
I do not know if this will help you in finding a solution to saving your beautiful building where the chapel and stables are located, I thought I would pass my memory of this work on to you.
Thank you for sharing the wonders of your chateau with us, the roof inside looks like boat building
Thank you for following our journey. You're quite right - the inverted hull shaped roof in this style were sometimes built by the builders of ship hulls.
Love you Flick and Tim!! So in awe of you both!!! 💙🤍❤️🇫🇷
Thanks Cinta x
Hello from Nashville Tennessee! What an absolutely beautiful world you live in. It’s all so romantic and lovely. Thank you for showing me your out buildings and the Chapel! How wonderful and thoughtful you are to your Chateau! I do hope that all your dreams come true!
thank you so much
Wow, thank you for sharing. So amazing.
Hello how are you doing?
Glad you enjoyed it!
Amazing chapel and tack room.
So interesting to hear about the history on the buildings and how they where once used. Such a shame to see the building crumbling. Hopefully you can rebuild and restore the worst part. The wall for the saddles and the stairs are gorgeous
I hope you can get the roof done and building structure sound at the very least. I am amazed by the enormity of the work but also by your positivity.
I found the chapel piece quite moving. Your connection with the religious aspect of it is clear. To be wed within it, what an aim! How old will you be if you wait until it is ready??? Haha! But the staircase for a domestic stable? What a complex stairwell! But the work needed to redeem the building, where does one begin, the mind boggles.
Thanks for your message. We are fascinated by the religious iconography. It will be a huge project to save this building and it will take careful planning. We're thrilled that you're following our adventure!
Your dedication to saving this architectural showcase is admirable and I will look forward to watching future progress. ❤
The outbuilding with chapel is beautiful. The two flanking outbuildings to the Chateau are part of it's beauty. If you must sacrifice the outbuildings, I hope you are able to save the chapel. Thank you for a wonderful tour!
You're welcome
I agree, the enormity of just the main chateau's restoration is staggering. If they just can't save the out buildings do something to just stabilize the church it's gorgeous.
Hope you can hire the Chapel Restorers that Stephanie Jarvis “Chateau Dairies” is using.
What a lovely Blessing to be Married there. How beautiful. Yes ! Hurry and restore. Beautiful.✌️💜🙏
We'll have to see what is possible before our wedding. Thank you for following our journey!
Just WOW! Amazing architecture and amazing that the original features still remain. I really hope you can restore this building because you are the ONLY one who wants to restore the stables and use them for their original purpose..I am fascinated with old stables and this one is truly magnificent.
Thanks for following our journey. For us, our project has heritage restoration at its heart. We want to restore as much as possible using traditional techniques and materials whenever we can. And yes, its our dream to have horses again in Chateau de Purnon's stables... It will be a huge project to restore that building.
@ If I won the lottery I would send half of it to you!
Thank you! Select your lotto numbers shrewdly!!
wow !!!! Bravo from Qld ..Good on you for saving that beautiful old lady. Yell out of you need a hand.. Id love to go deer hunting across the road in that hunting estate
I have been in horses for 30 years. It appears to me that the tie stalls were a earlier design and the stall at the back would have been added later. Barns have really changed over the years and are much better designed. My stalls have run ins so the horses can go in and out at free will at night. And large turn out during the day. We have tamped sand with rubber mats and then shaving for bedding which is so much better than concrete on the horses legs. All the best for bringing the buildings back to their former glory.
This was truly amazing!!! The chapel is magnificent as are the stables!
thank you so much
Wow is the word .
What a treat to see the old stables and tack room. It's such a shame to see it in that state of disrepair. Hopefully one day you can bring some life back into the old building. Cheers from South Australia.
We hope so too!
This is such an amazing chateau, I’m so glad you are going to save it. The chapel is beautiful, but the most exciting thing for me is knowing you are restoring the stables…. Having horses, I would love to be able to have original stables…( with some mod cons..) a hall near us in Norfolk called Houghton hall uses the original stables….they are beautiful and much prefer seeing them in use rather than a coffee shop ….
Your love for your chateau is so evident! Hopefully others will discover your channel to enjoy its beauty with you.
thank you so much
Thank you for that, what a pleasure and a pain to see it. What a pity, especially as it contains some of what are probably the more important parts of the communs, historically speaking. I can't imagine what would be required to save that building, but as you say, just to prevent it from falling would enough. At least for now, shame life is so relatively short. G'day from your old country.
We will keep you updated!
You have an amazing knowledge of this beautiful chateau’s history. I really admire your desire to restore this beauty. Wishing you much success in getting the grants and funding to make your vision come true. Thanks for sharing ❤😍😘
thank you so much for your lovely message
Thank you for sharing this video. I get a feeling of sadness while looking at this unloved building. I hope life can be brought back into it. Cheers, Doc 🇺🇸
thank you so much
I kinda felt sad as well. It's just such a shame that it's in the state it's in.
Wow welcome back I’m so looking forward to seeing more of you xxxx
Thoroughly enjoyed this video! I love learning the history of your property. I hope you can get married in the chapel. Love from Vermont
Glad you enjoyed it!
I appreciate your dedication to saving this historic property and I thoroughly enjoyed this tour. Thank you!
Glad you enjoyed it
A massive project but let’s keep dreaming Felicity and Tim! Thanks for sharing, this is incredible, love it. Deserves it to get more millions to safe this chateau in the Vienne.
Thanks so much!
Absolutely amazing video and I can't wait to see the wedding! ❤❤❤ Congratulations again on tackling such an immense project and doing it right. Simply stunning!
That was amazing to watch! My mouth literally dropped open with the footage in the attic and I had tears in my eyes when you were in the chapel. So beautiful and so glad you are trying to save it.
Brilliant Chateau, so exciting, you just need a HD camera or new phone which films in 4k. all the very best from England
Incredible!!! I sure hope you get to save most of the building
Incredible! I really hope your dreams come true. In its time it must have been so beautiful. So much history to maintain and revive!
thank you so much Peter
Thank you for sharing this magnificent treasure and your adventure within and without. I am greatly impressed with your commitment, determination and vision. KUDOS!
Amazing property... very very big place... many buildings, many terrains
So stunning.
Thank you! 😊
Fascinating. Thank you-
Glad you enjoyed it
Gorgeous
Beautiful manors extraordinary as place in georgious
Thank You! Enjoyed seeing the Chapel and outbuilding components. Curious if you know how the family would receive communion. Would priest go up to the balcony? Or, would family go down to altar? Thank You.
This one brought a lump to my throat on several levels! Bravo on several levels more.😮😢😊❤
thanks Rosie xx
Wow. I hope you can save it
Very interesting, what did the architect of Bâtiments de France told you to do about the damaged structure of the chapel and stables building ?
The out building that's falling, cutting it off at the stable / Tackle room could save the building. Removing everything above the vaulted chambers in the basement, leaving a patio could be left it its sound. The structural damage at the end is puling the building over. Water damage weakening the buildings roof, walls and structure looks like the cause.
We will be conducting a diagnostic study to find out the issues and this will provide guidance on the best course of action to protect and save the building.
Yay!
Hello how’re you doing?
wowza! a chapel!!!
Looks like you need a few Engineer's to sort the issues out, and a army of workers. It is a big job, but should be doable. The only question to ask is already answered: is it worth it; it certainly is.
From a preservation standpoint to prevent further deterioration I suspect removal of the paintings and stained glass would be a very high priority to prevent further water damage and allow for stabilization.
The estate is magnificent
Purnon is a special place. Thank you for following our journey!
What a beautiful place🙏🏻to see if fully restored to its former beautiful self in the future.
thank you
Yr doing a wonderful job bringing her back. I wonder if lowering the ground level at the front of the west building and supporting the building with correctional structure would give it a solid base and the balance it needs for the next few centuries? Correctional structure looks inevitable whichever side you choose but less in your face if in front I imagine. It would create a balance issue on perspective for the two side buildings I guess but might save the west one from toppling over. Just a thought.
We are fortunate that the support structure is required at the back of the building so the aesthetics of the front of the building are not effected. We will need to conduct a diagnostic study to work out the best course of action to save the building.
Such an intetesting vlog!
Rikki Biermann, Pretoria, South Africa 🇿🇦
Thank you so much Rikki
Could all the elements be removed from the tack room, have it rebuilt then reinstalled?
If you fly me in from Canada, I'll completely disassemble the West Commons and rebuild it as close to original as possible. Sure it will be expensive...
Is there a reason you haven't taken the paintings down to prevent further degradation until you can have them restored properly?
Of course you want to save and protect the building, but is restoration not an option? Also, are the paintings still up because they are part of the walls? Stephanie Jarvis at Chateau de LaLande had the stained glass windows in her chapel restored and they did a beautiful job! So exciting to see everything coming back to life!
Please, always make all your videos in landscape mode. I cannot turn my big TV 90 degrees,
🙏🏻💕🍀🕊
It's a tragedy that western civilization is crumbling in front of our faces. The decay of these magnificent buildings is emblematic of larger issues
Amazing tour of the out buildings, but the quality of the video was sadly poor. (Yes my settings were up to highest resolution). The wood in the tact room i can imagine in its heyday was immaculately polished along with all the tack.
The task to safe this is far too much for one generation…..its so sad to see all those broken buildings that where once a hive of activity and so beautiful in their own right! That staircase to the grooms bedrooms are really exceptional!
I wonder how the family took communion when they were up in the balcony. Do you know ? I suppose the priest went up and then came back down to serve the domestics and farm workers.
The stables and tack room's damage appears like there had been an earthquake instead of just normal decay from over the years. Just amazing. Thanks for showing us.
Amazing building. I hope you are only referring to a wedding celebration in the chapel and that you have actually already legally married. This is because of the inheritance situation in France if you haven’t purchased the chateau en tontine. Somebody you cohabit with as a partner and are not married to or PACS with would have to pay 60% tax on any inheritance. If you haven’t made a will parents would inherit not the partner. I’ve over simplified this but I really hope this has all been explained to you and you have taken steps to mitigate the risk , the first step is to legally marry.
They wouldn’t be know as cupids but cherubs I think in this context.
Yes
Esta ruinas se tendría que reahacer
I am afraid both side-buildings are beyond repair and need a complete rebuild to correct for the faulty design of the foundation.
It would be a shame to just demolish them as it changes the appearance of the chateau a lot. But if you have the finances I would recommend a (partial) rebuild.
Where the Tack room is is acting like there is a sink hole under it just in the lowere back half, was there ever like other great estates mining done under the estate!!!
Do the buttresses have anything to do with the way the floor and walls have sunk?
One of the bedrooms must have been for the priest, and peerhaps the other for his servant, non ?
Do you know how big the family was that owned & lived there, and how many people worked for them?
There were different sized families over different generations. We have created all the family trees so we will put something together to share this with you.
I don't get the feeling that you will be doing much of the renovation yourself. Once you take the French historian money, they pretty much own your chateau and the restrictions can be horrendous. Do you plan on making a commercial venture out of this? Like a B&B? Will you be allowed to?
🌹👏🌹I wish I was rich enough to completely fund the restoration especially the Chapel for you Felicity❣️
How much money and how much time and labour would it take ?
It looks almost an impossibility.
God bless you with a miracle ❣️🌹🙏🌹
Thank you for your lovely message. We still have to conduct the diagnostic study to ascertain the best course of action and then we will be able to get an idea of the cost involved. It's going to take a lot of fundraising to try and get it done but we will do absolutely everything in our power to save it!
Such a shame. Painful...
I blame the socialist taxation policies of the French government.
Are there tunnels under the building?????? maybe why its leaning ???
Thank you so much!
