    Hi DeMarius!
Your video brought back memories of when I first started teaching. I’ve been a choral director here in Chicago for 40 years and it has been an amazing journey! I just wanted to encourage you on the pursuit of your doctorate. Be encouraged my brother!

My jaw dropped when you said your prof at Rowan was Dennis DiBlasio. Had the pleasure of performing with him at my undergrad at Mansfield University in PA.

Whoa!!!! I’m a music graduate from Winthrop. Did my undergraduate and graduate work there. That is so awesome!!!!

I am also a DME student at liberty in the middle of the degree! I wish you the best of luck, and keep sharing! I wish I had done the same when I started this journey, there isn't enough material on the program yet since it is so new. Make sure you nail down that Turabian style, I'm still a work in progress on it :)

Thank you for sharing! I am finishing my Masters in Music Education this summer and have been very seriously considering the DME at Liberty. I know it’s a fairly new program and I’ve been hoping to find current student’s thoughts. Glad I found your video. Thanks again!

Awesome, DeMarius. I hope you are doing well. The doctoral journey is an interesting one. I did one (Ph.D.) in my 50s and had a blast. A lot of writing for sure, but fun and learned a lot about myself and my capabilities. Best of luck and keep your eye on the target!

Nice! I got my bachelors at Liberty! I was in the marching band, “The Spirit of the Mountain”. I also played alto sax

Thank you for sharing. I'm starting the same doctoral program in the fall. I did my Master's in 2005 and detoured into IT, while playing in orchestras and teaching as an adjunct. I should've done my DMA a long time ago, but here I am now :) I played in the Hawaii Marine Band in the 90s :)

I got accepted to the same program, but I have hesitated on following through because of the whole Falwell scandal. I was worried about the name, it seems though a lot on here look past that which has encouraged me greatly! Congratulations on your success so far. 🥰

Curious as to why you chose the DME program over the PhD in music ed at Liberty? I've been going back and forth between the two, mainly because you usually see professors with the PhD in music ed. As you've gone through this program, any concerns with "DME" not being as recognized in the university setting? Essentially the same as the DMA?

Nice man, I've been looking at getting a Masters and Doctorate for years. Its nice to hear that the online training is legit. What about recitals though? Congratulations and good luck!

    • @DeMariusJackson
      @DeMariusJackson  Před 3 lety

For my Masters recital...I essentially recorded the concert with local musicians. About half of the tunes were original compositions and I also had to write a paper about the techniques I used in compositions. I actually really enjoyed the process! I love the channel btw!!

    DeMarius,
I am curious as to how your experience is progressing? I am seriously contemplating the DME online through Liberty.
I do not wish to attend the same university where I received my M.A. as I like the idea of different university environments/perspectives/settings for all of my degrees. Since I do not have access to a D.M.A. in Conducting (which is the terminal degree I desire most) in close proximity to me, the online offering through Liberty seems to be a good fit. I have researched Boston University's Online program as well, but the length of time they require (6-7 years) is too long, in my opinion, and the cost is nearly unconscionable! I currently have a
B.M. in Vocal Music/Music Education, Univ. North Texas ('91)
M.A. in Music Education (Choral Conducting Concentration), Univ. South Florida ('06)
and 10+ years of music teaching experience. Now that my kids are grown, I am finally ready to complete my degree journey.
I guess what I want to know most is, are you enjoying the program thus far and finding that it is balanced in terms of work product? I am a bit concerned that it may be too heavily skewed toward ONLY writing papers. I'm also concerned that the relative gravitas or rigor of the Liberty program may not be well-regarded or well-received among the academic community at large.
Any thoughts or insights you can share are most appreciated.
Congrats on taking the leap! Godspeed during your time in Japan.

Hey! I was so surprised finding this video! I actually live in Gunma, Japan and I was wanting to take a online class from liberty university( Worship, music studies!) I have never taken a online course, so I'm kind of concerned about it. How was it for you??? I am wanting to do music ministry in Japan in the future. Do you think it will be a good choice to take an online class from Japan??
