- Many people have told me about how they are sure that Akagi isn't yandere. It's time we see just how true that is as we dive into the questline. Afterwards, I'll talk about what the lore of the game tells me about Akagi.
This will definitely be an interesting video for sure!

Sure Amagi was "lost", but the reasons were because she was willing to sacrifice herself because of her illness. Plus I don't think Akagi had any negative emotions displayed when Kaga was mentioning her name in the "present" cutscene of Crimson Echoes.
@@Hawk2zer0 Looking at the "Present" scene again, I am getting a feeling we can trust Kaga's perception of Akagi's personality. It might be this "version" of Akagi is the one that has encountered the Battle of Midway.
Personally, I'd like to think our "version" of Akagi (the one we summoned in Azure Lane) is the pre-Midway battle Akagi. Certainly would make me feel a lot better and less scared for my life. XD

@@Hawk2zer0 imo, I think it holds merit. Maybe outwardly she doesn't show the weight of Amagi's loss, but whenever those she holds most dear (the commander and Kaga for example) she goes into a sort of panic mode, where she will go to drastic measures (death by fluffy tails) to remove them from the situation.
It might be more of a subconcious fear of losing anyone else she loves
If only this was narrated in the dulcet tones of Vaati Vidya.
Also: Akagi is mostly traumatized and will do anything to prevent the people she cares about from dying, and it sort of got perverted into obsessive, smothering love.

Well you have an interesting theory, but I think it's a bit off. You should go back and check both the crimson echoes storyline, and if you have her, taihou's storyline, as they contradict your theory as to her personality being the way it is.
In crimson echoes, she was a lot calmer and honestly sucked up to Amagi often, which is why Kaga calls her a bootlicker sometimes, and after waking up as an aircraft carrier her personality became exactly like she is toward us (as commander), just toward her siren masters. This indicates her twisted self is a direct result of her carrier change, as is Kaga's more... toned down personality (with BB Kaga being much more fired up and aggressive in both speech and mannerisms). Kaga openly states she looks the same, but her personality couldn't be more different, and there was a character at some point (this one I can't remember where it is, sadly) who openly stated something must have gone wrong in making Akagi the carrier because of her personality becoming twisted. About her yandere-ish nature, Taihou calls her out as trying to threaten Akashi to put "something" of hers in all of our (commander's) food... which I literally do not even want to think about what it might be.
What happened at the end of her questline is what I feel happens at the end of many of the girls' questlines in my eyes, which is to say that they largely grow as a person and realize that they need to change, or can't have everything their way. In Honolulu's case, it made her a bit more brave in telling you how she felt. In Atago's case, she pretty much broke down her "hehe onee-san will do everything jump into my bewbs" attitude and admitted that while she does act that way she is very serious about how much you mean to her, and she understands she cannot just have you because of the attention you must give to the whole fleet, but she really wants that you'll at least answer her feelings one day. In this case, Akagi probably realized that she can't just... control you or your feelings as much as she wants to, so she asks you to at the least never forget or belittle how she feels. Yes, she's a yandere type, but she's not delusional where she'd kill you if she can't have you so nobody else can, and her feelings are actually real and deep, not shallow and self-serving.
As for the start of the game, she openly admits to you that it was regrettable that she met you after meeting the siren "god" character, because if she'd met you first she wouldn't be over there, but she won't betray her master just to go to you. There is a theory about the reconstruction of ships, though, where people think when you get a ship "drop" you actually just get their specific wisdom cube data and recreate them, and then they recognize you as their commanding officer and join the fleet. That... I don't know if it's dev-confirmed, but it's the only way it makes sense and why you have to get certain ships from world map drops (and why Akagi and Kaga need to be found in 3-4, where you confront them).
About the possibilities, I'm going to say it's a multiverse theory deal, similar to how Alterprise and dark Takao were there in the recent storyline event. She probably kind of recognizes that depending on how timelines go, their allegiances could heavily change and stories could turn on their heads. But that... that one is something else I think is unrelated to her personality (since the game directly stated it was a result of her change to a CV).

I'll have to see Taihou's story line...and if that paints her any different...it's possible this questlines are dependent on us only wanting to stick with one shipgirl...so there's that problem (as in Akagi learns tolerance from her questline, but that isn't shown in Taihou's because that would be strange for a lot of people...also there is no established time for any of these events...so we don't know when these events occur or if there even is a sequence of events)
There is a theory that someone provided that her soul was split when she fell in Midway. The sirens took the twisted side....and we took the side that I speak of.
I'm curious to see where this hypothesis goes when more lore is available EN side...I'm curious for sure...
For me, I think the standard interactions we see in stories are their normal personalities. You definitely grow closer to them (storylines can't be finished without maximum affinity, after all) and they grow as a person. In this case I would say you could consider it more a moment of clarity where the standard anime trope of "business as usual the next day" happens afterward? You know how it is, people don't really change easily.
This is also represented in Atago's marriage skin line, where her "love" line is changed to you saying she appears to have calmed down, and she says it's because now she absolutely knows we'd never leave her side, where normally that line is something like her snapping as her patience ends and then essentially begging you to marry her and let her take care of you.
In Akagi's lines, her standard love line is saying nothing will ever get between us and our embrace, smile and scent are hers. With the wedding skin, she greets you as you wake up, then says she didn't do anything... except lock us in so she can be with us forever. Her oath line says she waited for an eternity and now nobody can separate us, and her mind, body and soul belong to us and ours to her, then she laughs insanely. Also her "return to port" line when married is slightly scary, she offers us her hand-crafted tea, and says she "added a little ingredient to make our love sweeter". Actually... just read all of her marriage lines she's legitimately scary. From wishing literally nobody else existed in the world except you and her, to her asking you to stop struggling because she "made a special chain for you", to threatening us to not run away because she's going to cook.
Yeah ok so I'm listening to her lines as I typed this and yes there is no way in my mind I can see her as non-yandere. I really think she matures a little bit after her questline but... I think it's just that. She is EXTREMELY possessive including ordering you to strip with one of her outfits so that she can "know if the smell of vixens lingers on us".
As for your thoughts about her character being split with the personality thing, maybe? But remember that events we play through are often simulations the sirens run of past/existing events, and not all of them are events we go through right now. Ashen Simulacrum was most certainly a "current event", though visitors dyed in red for example is a past event, since Akagi and Kaga are still with the sirens preparing for the sakura empire's future. I think Crimson Echoes is a past event too, since the memory named "present" in it seems to be right as Akaga are converted to CVs. In this case I think maybe Akagi simply has information from the Sirens about different timelines (since the sirens or Alterprise/Dark Takao mentioned that our timeline is hidden and us as commander isn't normally present in most other timelines) and that's why she kept mentioning "possibilities" and that her current existence is but a "possibility". Truthfully, since the game's storyline hasn't been concretely laid out yet nor have the devs explicitly said which event is current and which is a simulation, this is just guessing time. Ashen Simulacrum and Winter's Crown I'm pretty sure are current existences, probably also Scherzo of Iron and Blood (is that the right one? Bismarck's event?) and possibly Divergent Chessboard should be current-timeline events. Crimson Echoes is most certainly a past event because Amagi exists, but it also proves that the wisdom cube technology has been around for a long time. There's a lot of thinking about the story here I don't want to get too into that xD but I really do think Akagi is just a yandere, even if she has a bit of maturing to do. Taihou surprisingly seems to only butt heads with Akagi and Albacore and is easy to talk to once commander isn't around, though she gets a bit possessive with him around, so I'd say if there was anyone who just "really loved him" but was borderline yet not really yandere, it would probably be her, but there aren't enough skits where she is present yet.
@@d2ultima D2ultima a lot of people have suggested she is Yandere, but grows out of it. But the marriage skin lines as you say...makes it seem as if she's completely forgotten all of that...which irks me because it's like she completely forgot about her changes in the questline. if that's how that is...to me...that's bad writing. Because the big three lines could also imply she's okay sharing us...because of that.
Which is why this concept bothers me because it contradicts the growth of her character in the questline.
Also I can't see the present cutscenes in CE being after the conversion. The beginning of the event is the lines used at Kaga's fall in the battle of Midway....and they speak of a major battle in that cutscenes as well! This just heavily implies Midway is before the present cutscene.
@@Hawk2zer0 just chiming in but Akagi returning back to a yandere on her oath skin line could be attributed to you choosing her as your "life partner", at the end of her questline she's okay if you don't choose her, but if you do choose her I guess that puts her overprotectiveness of you on a different level
that is if we take it that we can only oath 1 ship girl canonically(story-wise)
so she doesn't really "forget" growing out of her yandere tendencies she just gets more of a desire to protect you 'cause her affection grows more(a bit too overblown xD) when she becomes your wife
also most shipgirls(from reading the oath lines of the shipgirls I've oathed) grow more "possessive" of sorts when you do oath them, not just Akagi
one good example of shipgirls growing more and more "yandere-ish" as their affection increases is Aylwin
At least we know the reasoning why she's so obsessed with us now. It's interesting to see what's the cause and now I can sympathize with Akagi more.

Well with a more indepth look into Akagi, teaching me more about her than I knew (since I missed crimson echoes), I can safely say I do not regret oathing her or Kaga for that matter.
@E L M O Akagi may be possessive due to her trauma but I doubt she would go through with something like that unless she genuinely believed it was the best option for whatever reason she decided to justify chaining the Commander up. Keep in mind that I oathed her with the headcanon that my Commander would be someone who would indulge her desires (whether that be why she likely wants to chain up Commander or just spoiling her or taking her out to somewhere) and try to help her come to terms with some of the trauma that has haunted her. How? No idea. This is already becoming an essay because I had no idea how to respond to what you said.

There is no correct answer to this question.
If we had a very close response... A basic example would be to take the Fate/Stay Night novel and apply 3 main arches to each ship within the world of Azur Lane. By varying the variables of each event, this could be applied in a certain way on Akagi.
The problem lies in the fact that if we take certain events she has a certain characterization as yandere, but at the same time she does not have it.
In short, if she were the protagonist, the closest answer would be, she was slightly Yandere (simply applied to the love obsession) But she put that fragment aside, thanks to her pure love.
This is just my point of view, being honest I think I can see Akagi in four different ways, but it is a very long talk, we would need a lot of food and good seats to talk about her.... XD

Well, this one made me have a different view of akagi. A more positive one (was already positive). Please make more videos like this one, it was very good.
I was originally for the lore when i first played the game but ended up with the desire of obtaining power through collecting and enhancing ships and gears, grinding nonstop and making me ignore the story. Because of this, some parts of the story became confusing and uninteresting, it changed as well how i look at the characters and the game itself. Akagi, for me, is just your average generic yandere girl in every waifu/harem collecting game, a creation to appeal for others in face value. Until i saw this video, which explained how depth her character is.
I'm very thankful for this video as it made my gaming experience more- colorful? Also clearing some things up in the story that i didn't understand that much because i ignored it.
I'll be leaving my like and sub over here.
Regardless she Is still a bundle of fluff that I want in my fleet for reasons that you wont understand

She won't dismember your fleets if you've oathed her.
It's likely she's the 3rd Akagi since at the end of Crimson Echo's and in I think Visitors Dyed in Red it's strongly implied that she and Kaga were killed in the battle and brought back by the Sirens (or the Creator).
Actually since Kaga remarks that her personality seems to have shifted it seems likely that her soul was split and one half (her more protective side) is at Azur Lane with the commander and the other half (her more powerhungry side) is still working with the Sirens.
Hmm...the split soul idea is interesting...I'll keep a note of that.
@@Hawk2zer0 I'm of the same mind on that. The Akagi and Kaga we have are the ones who attacked Azur Lane in chapter 1. We defeated them at Midway and salvaged their cubes (this is why they're map drops). The Akagi and Kaga that are still working with the Sirens are copies that were made by the Sirens after the events of Midway.

This lore makes me appreciate more on my Akagi. Well, she has been there with me in every event and every boss from the start to the latest event for boss killing. I do not regret oathing her and Kaga at the same time because of fluff, well shes first oath'ed then Kaga.

Crimson Echoes is the event that made me fell in love with the AL lore, and the Sakura Empire in general.

This is definitely my version of Akagi, just a overprotective, loving girl. I think her not letting anyone near you, might be that she see's everyone as enemie. You job is to show that, no one is actually out to get her. Oathing her proves that you have mutal feeling towards each other. She's overly-thankful for us giving her a 2nd chance, and taking that 2nd chance all the way.
Please consider doing some more Azur Lane Lore dives. This was incredibly thought provoking for me.

Akagi was first place in my 'who gets a ring'-list (aside Kaga - both or none of em', as wise player told me while farming the fox mines) actually based partly on what you've discorved as well (meaning I didn't thought as deep as you), but now I am certain. as a person who loves lore like this in game. gotta say great video. i do like how to game kinda jumps back and forth in the time lines. most events its happy go lucky naval base antics. but then you catch some events like fallen wings and visitors died in red.

The IJN Akagi was originally commissioned as a Battlecruiser before being converted into a Carrier same as the IJN Kaga.
That… and it would put to rest the idea that her personality changed to the one we know and love (but also fear) after her conversation.

Obviously the twisted yandere wants your next meeting to be with her. So she can give you delicious cookies... which may or may not contain her hair. Also, I think that point where Akagi mentions their existence, sanctuary, souls, and the originals, well... Sanctuary would refer to the port where the AL story takes place. The "souls" are the girls themselves. The originals, in that case refers to the actual warships from World War II.

Soo... I just meet this channal. I love it, since I only say the anime and I'm still doing her quest ( I skiped the secretary mission part of the video), I still could not do the event with Amagi, I started playing less then 6 months ago, but I do know a bit of the history of the ships irl and the earthquake that happend during their conversion to carriers. It seems, AL is quite deep in history, I love the connections they do with irl, it's just great. I have a felling that we might know more about it with Operation Siren, I can't wait to see how the game will progress. Now, it's time to see more videos from the channal, great work Hawk2zer0, I'm now a fan. I hope more lore videos come soon!!!!

I don't know if this is true but I just have a feeling that the 2nd Akagi and Kaga are somewhat a representation of Japan after WWII. In WWII, Japan believed that they are the most powerful nation, it's only when their own ego grows so large that they got desperate for just a win and when not possible, they started doing things that shocked the American troops, civilians jumping off cliffs and drowning themselves so they can't be taken, or even sacrificing themsleves to dive into US carriers and ships. It's only when the bombs dropped that they seek for peace but still have a desire to be powerful after the long war. However the US helped Japan by giving them a large recovery money and giving another chance. And Japan knows this and accept it and try their hardest to redeem themselves, today, Japan is a powerful nation, in a good way, a member of NATO, a valuable ally to America.
But hey, I'm just a random guy who came up with this while eating cereal, thanks for listening.

I did mention to some of the lore peeps that the Japanese during those days and before...believed in Divine Intervention...that the gods would protect them from everything foreign threat....I did feel that this influences Akagi and Kaga in the main story.
@@Hawk2zer0 I do feel and see that too, and I think that Akagi and Kaga is under the influence of a higher being back then, that is the Sirens, and the Sirens might also be a representation of Emperor Hirohito back in WWII, all citizens and soldiers believed that he was a god figure and thus the many things they did I mentioned before. Japan was a powerful country in WWII, but it's their own lust of control and power and their plans of conquering that speed is more importaint than power, but power would eventually catch up to them.

People should definitely learn more about her back story rather jumping on the train with pitchforks yelling "Akagi is a yandere!"

The Azur Lane lore in general is a mix-match of our real world events. I like to see Azur Lane's historical period as 1942, at the peak of the Crimson Axis dominance.
I'd really love to see more lore videos like this. And you've re-affirmed my desire to hug all my shipgirls and make sure they know we're one big family. So long as they are with us, I'll forgive anything they've done, just as I'll never forgive those who sought to drive us apart.

Even though we got most of what we need to understand Bismarck, I hope a secretary quest becomes available to perhaps explore more lore on the Iron Blood and Bismarck herself. To sum up my impression of Bismarck, she suffered a type of "Saber complex" where she surrenders her humanity to be the ideal leader of the Iron Blood that her people expected of her to the point where she has trouble making connections with anyone else.
This changed much of my opinion on Akagi, I believe you have done an excellent job of brining her possible true nature to light. I think you should make other lore videos as well. Especially if they are as well done as this one!
I got Akagi randomly from that chapter 3 sub mission that pops up occasionally within my first 2 weeks, so I guess I don't need to farm in the 3-4 everyone talks about. That being said, I love her and this video made me appreciate her even more.

Wow. That really is a eye opener and proves that you cant judge a book by its cover. Hawk you should continue this lore as it really explains a lot about the ships and why they act like they do. Call it Hawks Azur Lane Lore Time.
To understand her you need to know what she wants the most. Power is not a finality, it's a mean to obtain it. She want to protect the sakura empire, whatever the costs, whatever the path and whatever it takes to achieve it.
In the main story she said something like In other days, in other circumstances she would have sided with us. Not us as azur lane, us as the commander that with some 3rd grade ships destroyed her, the unstoppable. She always had looked for more power to protect sakura empire but what she needed wasn't power, it was a masterful commander to guide her absolute power. As the wielder needs it's blade, the blade needs it wielder.
She's gratefull that we took her back and saw greatness within her. She's gratefull we gave her life. She's gratefull we care about her feelings... and she wants to repay us but everything she can do is fight. She lacks common social skills so she erase everything that get between us and her dream, the pests, that can be from other ships to sirens. She allow kaga to ''take care'' of us because she knows she's ready to sacrifice herself to the cause too so she's worth being our side. She's not obsessively jealous, she's obsessively protective as without us, her country is doomed, but as said, she's not the best to express herself as she always been on battlefield to get more power.
We as the commander want to save everyone drom sirens, and that means her country too. We are at some point the hope she always wanted to be but never could be. You can hate her, you can despite her, you can even hurt her as much as you want, she knows her dream will be accomplished and for this she will ever love us.
Excellent video. However, I find I must disagree with your pronouncement of non-yandereness. She may have reasons for her behavior, but it's still obnoxiously obsessive.
I admit, I oathed Akagi, but it was only because I collect skins. Of the two, I prefer Kaga, but neither can hold a candle to my Dunkerque.
Also, Red Castle is just what her name means. It's a mountain in Japan, which she is named after.

A yandere would never even remotely accept sharing the person of her obsession her not only accepting it but going as far as saying she doesnt even expect to ve loved back nevermind be the only one pretty much destroys the yandere trope completely.
It was worth all the time, coins, oil, and cubes to finally reunite her and Kaga with Amagi. I feel good about bringing them back together again.
None of the ships is a yandere, according to the EN community.
I swear to god, I've lost count of how many times I've seen someone saying that [insert ship here] isn't yandere just because she doesn't go "stabby stabby uwu notice me senpai" on us. That's the stereotype, not what yandere means at its core. Yandere means "sickly in love," which can be manifested in many non-violent ways, sometimes even a self-destructive way like in Dido's case.
Akagi might be crazy, but her story is incredibly heartwarming. That's why I oathed her. She may be possessive, but that does not mean she is irredeemable. And most important thing: her love is genuine, better than most girls I know in real life...

When you're confused around 13 minutes in. She's referencing the Cranes' event where Akagi and Kaga were trying to Awaken and they captured Shokaku. I think it was Visitors Dyed in Red or Crimson Echoes. Right before the level cap was increased by awakening.
I really like how you add extra dialogue as the commander - it gives off a sort of tsukkomi vibe where you're the straight man in the comedic act.

Just find that in the Visitors Dyed in Red Event, Zuikaku also tough they were sinked in midway, maybe they were heavily damaged/sunked and were rescue/rebuiled by the Sirens, they why we have them? probably when a Shipgirl get destroyed/sunked, if got splitted in one or more part, if we "recover" the part that contain her memores/personality and with the use of the cubes/repair/raw mats she can get materialized and then is how we got her Secretary/Character memory, that could explain why Kaga seem diferent from the one that we found in the events, maybe the sirens recover that conscious and thats why she notice her Akagi is different.
Also the cronological order seems to be like this:
'edited': Crimson Echoes(Before refit )-> Ink Stained (Nagato pre-seal) -> Midway -> Taked by Sirens for rebuild -> Crimson Echoes (after refit) -> ¿Return of the war god? (Mikasa) -> Visitors dyed in red -> Ink Stained (Nagato release) -> (At some point we look and recover some akagi/kaga remains)
if i dont see wrong there are not more Sakura Empire event's related to this, im guessing they will try to introduce all the "possible" nations before going deep into the alternative lore
Also wonder who is the "Her" they are going to meet, one of the Sirens or the Empress? Alterprise? Darth Takao?, also they talk about the "Key" that got a recently mention in the Ashen Simulacrum, the lore has a really big potential.
I definitely cannot agree with that order. Chapter 1's events came about due to Nagato's approval of the fight. So Chapter 1-3 can't happen until Nagato gives the order in Ink-Stained. it has to be this order unless more information from other events proves otherwise.
Crimson Echoes -> Siren conversation of sorts -> Ink-Stained Steel Sakura(Nagato Pre-seal) -> Chapter 1 -> Chapter 2 -> Chapter 3
Only Visitors dyed in Red and the Ink-Stained Steel Sakura (Post Release) are unknown in this timeline. I'll have to see when Return of the war god? comes
It seems i just forget about that part so the Ink-Stained (Nagato pre-seal) is before Chapters 1/3, but after that should be the order i propose, since still dont have the Return of the war god event, but because Mikasa appears in Ink Stained (Nagato release) that means she event runs before but could be before or after the Visitors dyed in red, only that can vary.
You can say the Visitors dyed happen at certain point during the war since start they were fighting against lexinton at some point and the Akagi/Kaga sanctuary at this point was destroyed and they search for a new fount of power, so they came to try it with the Sacred Sakura.
At this point before Ink-Stained (Nagato Release) seem Zuikaku and the others already deflect from the Akagi's Sakura Empire, thats why they look for Nagato to join them, since we fight against them all the time in the campaing map there are 2 options, they got defeated/Join us after chapter 12/13 and chapters 4-13 came before Visitors dyed , or after midway those events happen and all the other ships we fought are just mass-production copies and 'that' could be the power Akagi gain after they gathered the Sacred Sakura souls.
Side-note: Aparently she 'know' us at the point of the battle of midway, which make the things more confusing
