    Great video i am glad you fixed this machine.is quite common problem in this machines the cause of the problem is when you're doing a lot of start and stop with the trigger the next time you open the pump put out pressure piston on off clean it and put some silicone grease

    Outstanding video. Very well done. Thank you for this! Having just bought the K5 over the K1700 and Ryobi 1600 I found this helpful in understanding how it is built and repaired!

    Thank you. I followed your instructions and nothing happened fir about 15 minutes. I told myself this is the last time I'm taking off the hose and it kicked in. So happy and thanks again 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉

    I had a pressure issue on my K5 and was debating fixing it myself or sending it in to a nearby Karcher service centre. The video was useful in showing that it takes quite a bit of time to disassemble, fix and re-assemble. Based on that, I decided to send it in for repairs. Turned out to be a good decision with the overall repair bill being comparable to the time I would have done it manually in. It also really helped in understanding the explanation given as to the failure on mine (piston stuck) and confirm how it all works together.
    Thanks!

    Neat to see the inside of that unit, thanks for the vid. FWIW, I always use a lubricant for Orings when installing them. It helps to make the installation easier with much less friction, and reduces the possibility of damage to the Oring (pinching, scraping etc). Probably helps with waterproofing and durability too. Try silicone grease sometime.

    • @andrevdw747
      @andrevdw747 Před měsícem +1

      @@frenkc1 I completely cleaned the chamber as I saw also water drops inside. I filled the chamber only with oil little above the top level of the concentric ring which moves the pistons. Please know that is more guessing. I didn’t checked the official amount of oil with Karcher, nor the grease which I didn’t placed back. Hope it helps.

    Thank you for this video. My Karcher is slightly different but your detailed process of taking apart and putting back together was very helpful. As you say, I fixed my machine for 1/5 the price of a new machine. considering it is only a small part that was broken this seems expensive but it is still better than buying a new one. The biggest pain was waiting for the part to come in the mail to be able to put it all back together.

    Nice helpful video. But I think it would be much recommended, to remove the old greace (and cleaning all parts) before filling up the oil. Mixing up greace and oil never is a good idea in general. Even less already used contaminated grease and new oil.

  • @catsarereallyfurryaliens

    I recently repaired the next model up from this which has the hose reel in between the handle, I replaced the capacitor, the hardest part of the whole procedure was rooting those pipes in the correct positions before closing the case up I lost a lot of sleep over this I reckon I took a total of 16 hours over a few daysBut it was worth it

  • @deanwarner2006
    @deanwarner2006 Před 4 měsíci +2

    Pump heads are notoriously weak on Karchers, 9/10 it's this part that fails, tell tale signs are reduced output pressure or the unit starts pulsing as the pressure keeps fluctuating

      Try some WD40 or CRC 5-56 for some hours and see if it helps. I used a Makita Impact driver very carefully. I don't think they are glued, but corrosion may be holding them things. Good luck and thanks for the feedback 👍

    Mine is 110 volts. Can i change the power supply to 220 volts? We use 220v in my country so for now i can only use it with a 5000 watt step down transformer. But if i can change the power supply then i can plug in mains power directly. Any help or advice?

    I have a K6 which looks similar, cant take wheels off as the locking washers on axle you cant bang out as they grab more. But the two holes in wheel hub appear empty plastic, as no screw head, tested with magnet too. So dont think its that. have removed all screws I can see, but top yellow/blackcover just will not budge. Anyone taken a K6 apart??? I've given up for now as will break plastic housing..... Ta

    A great video. A pity that Karcher thought that a plastic part was capable of withstanding over 2000psi for any appreciable length of time.

    • @micdev42
      @micdev42 Před 2 měsíci

      That appreciable amount of time is Karcher’s guarantee period. After that they could not care less. The replacement pump head on my K4 was £65. I could buy a new K4 for £130, so I chose not to repair.

    I’ve got a K5 compact. It’s a couple of years old. Not been used much. When you first switch it on it works fine. Motor sounds healthy, plenty of power. As soon as you release the trigger and then re apply the trigger it stops working, no pressure. If you disconnect the hose it immediately fires up and pumps water out of the hose. Reconnect the gun, works fine until you release the trigger again and then no pressure. Very annoying. I took it apart and everything looks fine. Any ideas?

      Just don't use the dirt blaster. Set the lance to soft before pulling the trigger again. Switch of the machine, set lance to soft, pull the trigger and turn on the switch simultaneously. This is a temp fix, my 14 yr old karcher k3.550 is acting like this.

    • @vinkel4
      @vinkel4 Před 2 měsíci

      Probably air lock. Remove handle and turn off power and leave the water running for at least 5 minutes to remove all air from inside pump and hoses. Then put handle back on and turn on power.
      That should do the trick.

    • @gbdjski231
      @gbdjski231 Před měsícem +1

      I have the same problem on my K5 pressure control. If I pull the trigger and hold and then turn the washer on it works with full power. If i release the triger and pull it again, the power is very low. If I repeat the same - pull triger, turn it of and on again - full power. I dissasembled the unit, inspected the pressure head and everything seems to be fine, nothing broken. Anyone has any idean what could be wrong? Its not an air lock, when it starts it has full power and can go full power all time until I release the trigger..

    • @gbdjski231
      @gbdjski231 Před 6 dny

      Follow up - i took apart my K5 and found the piston at water inlet stuck. I pulled it out with pliers, greased the seals with silicone grease and cycle it in and put with pliers until it moved freely. It works like a charm now!
