Hi Alan, for my first wish, I wish for a video of the Go Play 3... Vs.. You guessed it Stormbox Blast. My second and third wishes arent worth mentioning!
Very nice review. I only wish you compared it to your pound-for-pound world champion. Also the tri-bet The storm boxblast. Maybe even compare it to the w King d10. But still another solid review great job. I was educated when you were talking about the downward firing subwoofer that's very interesting. Seems like there's a lot of passive woofers out there let alone active subwoofers. It's important for us to watch these reviews and learn the difference between all of them and what they do. For example the w King d9 has that massive passive woofer on the back... And this speaker has the woofer firing straight down. Definitely interesting stuff!
ok so you mean passive radiator. Woofer is actually driven by a voice coil but passive rads are driven by the returning excursion of the woofer. Passive radiators have a very narrow tuning whereas a woofer plays a wider frequency so its not quite as critical for the passive rad to downward fire as its not such a part of the sound as the woofer is. Also passive rads are/should be sized to the woofer so a big one or a few small ones would end up being the same.
My apologies if this question was already answered here and I simply missed it, but I take it that Harman Kardon does not offer a supporting app for these speakers? …. No means of tuning the sound profile within the speaker’s own amplifier circuitry? Thank you for these enormously thorough and entertaining reviews!
I wanted to buy HK Go+Play 3. But in India it's not available. I even asked the HK support this was their reply- "Thank you for contacting Harman-JBL Customer Support We appreciate your keen interest in owning our range of products. As per your query, we would like to inform you that we have stopped selling HK Go+ play 3." Why is that?
@@alanrossreviews yes I have seen some reviews of it, and some made me doubt it, but I trust your recording and I clarely can hear the difference, go 2 is not a bad speaker but nr3 is much better for my listening, deeper bass and better treble and mid.

Can we expect a comparison review between the GP3 and for example Teufel Boomster, Tribit Stormbox Blast, JBL Boombox, JBL Partybox Encore? And I wanted to ask you regarding your taste for wireless speakers - do you like most the best value-for-money speakers. Because for example there are speakers like Sonos Five, HK Citation 200, Bowers and Wilkins Formation Wedge, some Marshalls, Klipsch The Three. How do these compare to the likes of Tribit for example?
well i simply am one man and i haven't tried all those speakers let alone afford them. I dont have the boomster but i do hope to compare it with other speakers i have.
Nice review as always. A fantastic speaker. I liked the previous version and the new one is even better. Very pleasant tuning. By the way, is the bottom woofer vulnerable for damage? Is there any protection?
My biggest problem with hk onyx studio and go play is the battery life, it sounds amazing, but poor battery life. Which means you cant take it anywhere and expect the battery life to last long. The rated battery hours are for low volume listening , once you run the volume at max , the rated battery life dimnishes by half. I dont know why its so hard for harman Kardon to give a bigger battery
Apparently, you should press the "+" and "phone" icons together, and the indicator light should blink, placing the speaker in its 2nd sound profile etc...
Yes, sir... I watched a vid where the guy says one of his subscibers was not happy with the eq, so he wrote HK directly, and was given this tip to access the additional eq modes... Idk, the guy appears to demonstrate it in the vid...@@alanrossreviews

the encore has good amount of deep bass. I have the go 2 and it sounds pretty balanced but doesn't have the bass encore has. There's no bass boost feature on most harmon kardon because jbl are usually bass speakers
it is for me, depends on your ears. if you like a war smooth sound with a touch of boosted bass its worth it. if you find boosted bass tiring or prefer more high response you might prefer the blast.
I'm not set on one specific sound signature but for $ the Blast is king so far to me. but I'm okay spending more if it's noticeabley more impressive. Bose always does an excellent job of sound for pound fullness without distortion and lately Tribit too. I'm thinking that the Onyx 5 and Blast are still nearly perfect (for Bluetooth speakers) Apologizes if I missed it but does the play 3 lose watts when its not plugged in? Imo another reason why blast is king. Doesn't lose power when unplugged
I had both, returned the play 3. Too much of a V-shaped eq (no mids) and not very eq-able. Bass is a little too slow/sloppy compared to the tribit, but both hit the same notes. It does have more sparkly and higher highs than the tribit though and slightly wider soundstage.
Alan, I'd really like to see a comparison with jbk xtreme 3 (a little cheaper), boombox 3 (a little more expensive) or something similar. It will be very interesting!
They've gone back to the citation designs which I don't mind. I still have a citation one and it's great. I'll be looking out for one of these on the used market 😜😜
The only con i have with HK and JBl is their Batteries on their speakers do not last long. I have had multiple JBl’s and HK products. And what always goes out first is the battery. I dont keep it plugged in and yet somehow the battery always dies where my portable speaker is now a plug in speaker. Until they fix that. I cant spend another $400 on a 2 year speaker
Love your reviews! Been looking at this or an aura studio 4. Im puzzled to say the least. Coming from an onxy studio 5 I have some pretty high expectstions haha
all these comparisons to come......but this is cheaper than authentics 300 and sounds better but warm sound doesnt tend to do so well outdoors where the authentics may win out but its over priced and id get the encore over that one 🤷♂️
@@alanrossreviews Yes but with wifi is it possible to get a better sound with the 300 if the source is of better quality ? Plus the JBL have an app, home assistant (not essential for me but it has it so it is a plus) etc ... so when he compare the 300 is not so expensive in comparison to this HK. Really good job. Sorry I am not sure to understand all because my english far to be as good as this video quality, but does the speaker has the same power pluged or on battery ? Have you ever tried the Teufel boomster, and if yes what do you think between these two ?
@@alanrossreviews Thank you a lot Alan. If you can, try it. I had one, unfortunatly it has a default so I had to return it, and now I will prefer more power, but the sound quality is very nice.
No karaoke?!?! 😭 Deal breaker. I'm joking 🙂 but no doubt it would add even more value if it had that feature with everything else staying the same. The Go+ Play 3 sounds like a really solid option overall and definitely an upgrade from the previous generation (in my opinion, anyway). Thank you for another outstanding review and comparison, Alan! 😁👍👏
I see Go + 2 for £200 and Go+3 for £300, wanna use it for indoor ( in a room) mostly. Have already Tribit Stormblast but it does not sound good for mids and highs but great bass. I want something better than StormBlast, first is it a good idea to buy each of these Go +? then is it really worth paying £100 more to buy the newer version(Go+ 3)? appreciated any advice
Alan, I still want to hear your opinion, exactly by sound, is it worth replacing Go Play mini with Go Play 3? Is the price indifferent! I noted the advantages for myself: the power supply is removed in the case, Bluetooth 5.2, a touch panel made of tempered glass, but still the main thing is the sound, for which in fact they fell in love with Go Play mini? I don't want to be disappointed in the third model)))
Is this the new EXPENSIVE pound for pound champion? I have the Go+ play and I love it, got it for $200. I think I will wait for the price to go down on the Go play 3 because Harmon speakers usually go on sale.
yeah they could have eeked out a bit more surface area that way. You mean taller feet or you just prefer the feet? remember the woofer cant be too far off the surface because its working with compression of the air to boost the bass output.
Nice detailed review as always👍 I wonder what Harman Kardon designers have with Purses & the Globe in general😅 The GPP3 is definitely a good upgrade, i think its high time Hk & JBL review their battery & price setting departments, i wonder what GPP3 sounds like against some of the bad ass Onyx Studio series & some other deep bass speakers
Too bad there is no app for it. Otherwise, how can I update firmware without one? I know it's not in the same category, but the need for a comparison arises: Boombox 3 (especially the wifi) or this? There is an app for the Boombox 3, and it has EQ, even if it only has three bands.
I see they released the Soundcore X500. 🤦. I just don't get it. Why would anyone get that and not just the the X600. Its wider, so it will have better separation, and it has tweeters and its 10 more watts.
Soundcore are a great company for marketing bullshit, i guess its working and we will now get an avalanche of mediocre products with intensive shill sponsorship 😳
they just are ignoring the europeen market and they concentrate just in america, why i dont know, but this speaker are review just in usa and some ther counrys @@alanrossreviews
I know that RMS power is mostly used as marketing strategy, but Alan, can you plwase give me sources where I can read what exactly is RMS power for speakers (in-depth explanation) and if I may ask you as well to describe it with simple words? Thank you for the review! 🎉
RMS (area under the curve) would be more relevant if all we listened to was flute music in sine wave, music in practice is made of complex waves and peaks. The only tangible measurment is in dB for identical signal sources and then the max could be at different parts of sound spectrum.
root mean square, its probably the safest way to compare power ratings, no measurement is perfect, all open to being skewed depending on testing methodology but for me the most reasonable way to to compare ratings.
@@andrw8946 rms is the real power delivered into a load and sustained. unlike other measurements which are instantons measurements so pretty much of no meaning over a period of time. but the load you are driving matters so comparing simply watts rms tells you little since they can fake the watts by using a higher ohm load and taking measurements past elbow which is where all the distortion happens.
@@alanrossreviews If you are rating an amplifier on its own, then the output power would be somewhat more relevant as the resultant volume will depend on speaker sensitivity (dB per watt) however on these lovely swak boxes I guess the only true comparason is to dB them as Alan does.
Can you tell me if the Harman Kardon go + play 3 has latency in its AUX IN, if you connect a musical instrument there, is it possible to play the instrument connected there AUX IN, without latency? I've already tried it on the JBL Boombox 3 and it doesn't work, the JBL's AUX IN has a lot of latency and it's impossible to use it to play an instrument.
I did not expect this result. I send back my two go3. For my ears or my early model, the mids where shifting too much in treble and treble was srcatchy sounding on some tracks. Not smooth. On some tracks is was really nice detailed. My girlfriend told me same in a blind test (she has no experience in this). Maybe its because i came from stormbox blast. I compared them to encore, the encore was my to go on most tracks (not at all).
@@alanrossreviewsI heard again some of your samples. Its strange, they really sound both good with more bass to the go3. In my real world comparison to the 2 and 3, they had 2 very different sound signatures. Anyhow, great video alan! Edit: maybe you can compare to the encore?
i cant report anything to soundcore since they have stopped communication with me because i told the truth about how they stole my tuning and refused to credit me and because i was honest about the x600

@@alanrossreviews No not the encore there is a new jbl partybox on the go essential edition that has appeared in stores close to me, I know you haven't reviewed it but I am quite curious that it seems like it doesn't exist on youtube.
Would you say this speaker is suitable for an outdoor event with 20 people? I am deciding between the Play3 and Stormbox blast for music at a wedding reception. How long is battery life on play 3 at max volume? Is sound quality noticeably better on the play 3 and Is that 5mhz drop noticeable on the blast? Lastly, is there another speaker (of equal or smaller size) you would recommend as an alternative to the ones I mentioned above? Thanks for the great reviews.
I would think for a decent party you want a larger partybox style speaker. The go play 3 is not really an outdoor speaker due to small battery and relatively low max volume. Blast would be better. Maybe the partybox 120 would suit more.

Love the crossover graph. Thanks Alan.
Had to do it with grill on so not perfect but still interesting for needs like me 😂
My apologies if this question was already answered here and I simply missed it, but I take it that Harman Kardon does not offer a supporting app for these speakers? …. No means of tuning the sound profile within the speaker’s own amplifier circuitry? Thank you for these enormously thorough and entertaining reviews!
there is no app, i really dont know why since they have an app for other items just not for the portable bluetooth speakers.
I wanna see it compared to the onyx 5/6/8. curious to see how the bass compares
Yes lots of comparisons to be done
Is it possible to pair it with previos version, I mean go+play 2 and go+play 3?
not that im aware of
I wanted to buy HK Go+Play 3. But in India it's not available. I even asked the HK support this was their reply-
"Thank you for contacting Harman-JBL Customer Support
We appreciate your keen interest in owning our range of products. As per your query, we would like to inform you that we have stopped selling HK Go+ play 3."
Why is that?
i guess they mean in India? its certainly sold in most other regions.
I can feel the difference in bass listning on my 710 🙂, avesome review, think maybe i must have this speaker 🥳
Its not a holy grail but worth the money for me. Others reporting mine sounds different to theres 🤷
@@alanrossreviews yes I have seen some reviews of it, and some made me doubt it, but I trust your recording and I clarely can hear the difference, go 2 is not a bad speaker but nr3 is much better for my listening, deeper bass and better treble and mid.
for me and my two versions 3 is better for sure than 2 and i already liked the 2.
Alan you were talking about latency so this wouldn’t be ideal as a tv speaker, correct?
yeah latency for me is poor even on auxillary.

It will be my update...Thank you.
Not available in here yet...
hope you like it 🤞
Nice review as always. A fantastic speaker. I liked the previous version and the new one is even better. Very pleasant tuning. By the way, is the bottom woofer vulnerable for damage? Is there any protection?
Well vulnerable yes, its totally open not even a grill
@@alanrossreviews well strange design then. Very odd.
i guess another clue they don't consider it a true portable
My biggest problem with hk onyx studio and go play is the battery life, it sounds amazing, but poor battery life. Which means you cant take it anywhere and expect the battery life to last long.
The rated battery hours are for low volume listening , once you run the volume at max , the rated battery life dimnishes by half.
I dont know why its so hard for harman Kardon to give a bigger battery
Because it would eat into the jbl sales
Hello, Alan... Have you heard about the three different sound profiles built into the Go + Play 3? Would love to see you test them out...
Apparently, you should press the "+" and "phone" icons together, and the indicator light should blink, placing the speaker in its 2nd sound profile etc...
that doesnt do anything on mine, are you sure its for the go+ 3?
Yes, sir... I watched a vid where the guy says one of his subscibers was not happy with the eq, so he wrote HK directly, and was given this tip to access the additional eq modes... Idk, the guy appears to demonstrate it in the vid...@@alanrossreviews

It would be cool to see it compared to the Encore, despite having 160W I have the impression that the Encore has more rumble
I dont take any notice of watt ratings. They both have small batteries.
the encore has good amount of deep bass. I have the go 2 and it sounds pretty balanced but doesn't have the bass encore has. There's no bass boost feature on most harmon kardon because jbl are usually bass speakers
Alan! 🎉 I've got the Tribit Stormbox Blast. I believe it's fuller louder than the HK Onyx 5 I also love. Will the Go play 3 be worth the buy??
it is for me, depends on your ears. if you like a war smooth sound with a touch of boosted bass its worth it. if you find boosted bass tiring or prefer more high response you might prefer the blast.
@@bigpatt8372 yes a couple of db louder on mains
I had both, returned the play 3. Too much of a V-shaped eq (no mids) and not very eq-able. Bass is a little too slow/sloppy compared to the tribit, but both hit the same notes. It does have more sparkly and higher highs than the tribit though and slightly wider soundstage.
Alan, I'd really like to see a comparison with jbk xtreme 3 (a little cheaper), boombox 3 (a little more expensive) or something similar. It will be very interesting!
the bb3 will kill the x3, even the cheaper options of blast and motion boom can get near to the x3.
They've gone back to the citation designs which I don't mind. I still have a citation one and it's great. I'll be looking out for one of these on the used market 😜😜
They do chop change between generations
Will this unit enter sleep mode after some time of being on but not playing anything? Or will I need to manually power it off with the power button?

The only con i have with HK and JBl is their Batteries on their speakers do not last long. I have had multiple JBl’s and HK products. And what always goes out first is the battery. I dont keep it plugged in and yet somehow the battery always dies where my portable speaker is now a plug in speaker. Until they fix that. I cant spend another $400 on a 2 year speaker
Are you using them daily?
Love your reviews! Been looking at this or an aura studio 4. Im puzzled to say the least. Coming from an onxy studio 5 I have some pretty high expectstions haha
i hope to do a proper compare with go3 and one of the onyx soon
Which one do you recommend the jbl boombox3 or harman go play 3 for the bass? I love deep bass
bb3 is a proper boombox, go3 is a more balanced speaker.
Can you compare it with the bb3 wi fi? Thanks
What do you think between go3 vs. boombox 3? Sound quality
Will you ever check out the Harman kardon aura studio? The bass on that thing is quite good.
i just go week to week, it could happen at any point 😁
How does the sound compare between the HkGO+3 go and the JBL Authentics 300? which would be ideal for a party setting?
all these comparisons to come......but this is cheaper than authentics 300 and sounds better but warm sound doesnt tend to do so well outdoors where the authentics may win out but its over priced and id get the encore over that one 🤷♂️
This Harman seem awesome, but for me it is a shame that there is no aptx or better bluetooth, because the hardware is awesome but the connection possibilities are a bit limited. I see Go + 2 for £200 and Go+3 for £300, wanna use it for indoor ( in a room) mostly. Have already Tribit Stormblast but it does not sound good for mids and highs but great bass. I want something better than StormBlast, first is it a good idea to buy each of these Go +? then is it really worth paying £100 more to buy the newer version(Go+ 3)? appreciated any advice
for me yes the 3 is worth the extra money because it is simply better than the go+ play 2.
Hey Alan, what do you think about Harman Kardon Luna? Is it better than Bose Flex?
its more bass heavy if thats what you mean but also bigger/heavier
Alan, I still want to hear your opinion, exactly by sound, is it worth replacing Go Play mini with Go Play 3? Is the price indifferent!
I noted the advantages for myself: the power supply is removed in the case, Bluetooth 5.2, a touch panel made of tempered glass, but still the main thing is the sound, for which in fact they fell in love with Go Play mini? I don't want to be disappointed in the third model)))
well i only had the go play 2, so i can only say its a nice upgrade if you like a warm sound.
Thank you, I will order a third one!!
Is this the new EXPENSIVE pound for pound champion? I have the Go+ play and I love it, got it for $200. I think I will wait for the price to go down on the Go play 3 because Harmon speakers usually go on sale.
Well pound for pound is for prices but this may be the £250-£300 champ for a hifi type listen, its not a party speaker

The downward firing subwoffer should have been oval in shape and the feet just like on the go+play 2 for 360° dispersion
yeah they could have eeked out a bit more surface area that way. You mean taller feet or you just prefer the feet? remember the woofer cant be too far off the surface because its working with compression of the air to boost the bass output.

ha! sounds like you really did like this one 😁😁😁😁😁
@@alanrossreviews Do you mean it is a marker which shows how loud (powerful) a speaker is? If yes, then isn't a db-meter a better choice?
Id be happy with either :)
Sir, Could you review & compare Tronsmart Force Max to JBL Xtreme 3 please 🙏
How does this speaker compare to the Boombox 3 WiFi?
That comparison to come but its much smaller than the bb3, i wouldn't expect it to compete with a proper boombox
Can you tell me if the Harman Kardon go + play 3 has latency in its AUX IN, if you connect a musical instrument there, is it possible to play the instrument connected there AUX IN, without latency? I've already tried it on the JBL Boombox 3 and it doesn't work, the JBL's AUX IN has a lot of latency and it's impossible to use it to play an instrument.
did you check the specs in the video?
I did not expect this result. I send back my two go3. For my ears or my early model, the mids where shifting too much in treble and treble was srcatchy sounding on some tracks. Not smooth. On some tracks is was really nice detailed. My girlfriend told me same in a blind test (she has no experience in this). Maybe its because i came from stormbox blast.
