@TOAOM123 businesses have to have a market if they make money it’s because people are voluntarily buying the product or service. Expanding and reinvesting Is how jobs are made it’s spreading wealth all right, but you don’t see it that way because it’s not a handout. Overreaching Gooberment is the problem that’s how you end up with crony capitalism. You have too learn to fish for yourself, instead of getting mad at someone who catches a lot of fish and won’t share with you.

Even the alternative energy it should spend this "support" they get on research to lower the cost of alternative energy so that alternative energy reaches a point where it is cost competitive with the fossil fuel market and not dependent on government support. Once that happens, we remove the alternative energy subsidies and succeed in reducing our dependence on fossil fuels in the process.

But there are much better ways to save money. Radiator reflectors are cheap and work well. Cavity wall insulation is also good. And replacing your boiler with a heat pump will also make a massive improvement.

Corporate subsidies goes completely against the economic conservative philosophy many Republicans champion. Basically every industry from farming to pharma gets money from the government no matter how poorly they perform because they can lobby Congress to keep the money.
I thought that the essence of Capitalism was that you should be able to do it yourself with little help. But lobbying Congress has clearly convinced Democrats and Republicans alike to waste billions every year to funding projects and payouts to companies that can easily stand on their own two feet and who don't pay taxes.
Simultaneously, they treat workers poorly by not allowing unionized employees, not increasing wages in real terms for decades, underinsuring and underprepaing workers for retirement and do little to provide adequate conditions for their employees, I'm looking at you Amazon.

New technology would never be invented without subsidies, since there would be corporate monopolies preventing innovation of new cheaper technology which could replace the older more expensive technology, corporations don't want to compete, they'd rather the old technology and infrastructure last as long as possible since it'd cost them to actually innovate and give customers a better, cheaper alternative. Most of the innovation may come from the free market, and some subsidies may very well be bloated, but I still support some subsidies for new and innovative technology. All John Stossel does is poke at the small flaws of the left wing, while ignoring the huge problems a libertarian economic system would create, such as huge monopolies which have absolutely zero free market incentives to destroy themselves or improve. You could say the government is simply a giant libertarian corporation, controlled by the people, who currently have a monopoly on the laws? I'd still rather live in bloated democrat subsidy land than libertarian corporate monopoly land, even if both are shitty.
