  • In this video, Sonia focuses on the Role Play Simulations, which make up part of the Recruitment Assessment Day. She speaks through the 7 Core Behaviours you will be assessed on, and explains how you can display them in your simulation and why they are so important to being an effective prison officer.

Just be yourself, l know people work in prisons as custody officers and they all say that everything you taught goes out window, it doesn't have any impact or reflect against what prisoners are doing, remember you are working in a multi cultural prison not just dealing with same people but people with different troubles and addictions also giving these people what you taught by book is pointless because they just tell you how much of a machine you are, we heard it all before and same old banter. Also, through luck then at times it feel like you SIA supervisor on doors in a nightclub as sometimes not all time you feel atmosphere change, you have to be prepared to get hands on with use of reasonable force and other times it feel like you in a caffee shop just chatting to you local regular customers, depending which wing you on. Yes, so you will have you down first and ups secondly but that why we say, there no such thing as a typcial prison officer, however you just gotta stay focused in being you and keen on commiting to being impartial while still being human to prisoners as much possible. Any prison officer will tell you, soon as you stop being human and avoid nicest ones in coffee shop that when you become a liability!!!

I've been through the Process twice both times the very first Role Play I've had the same guy, you smile and say "Hello" and the guy loses hit shit starts pacing and shouting about "Do I find something Funny" If prisoners were that unhinged I wouldn't be tasked at talking to them they would have an assessment with a fucking Psychiatrist. The role plays put you in unrealistic situations with shitty actors who over act everything, I also wouldn't be dealing with people like this in their cell on a laptop where the rest of the wing could hear our conversations especially since the source material is supposed to be about Depression and Potential Risk of self harm, instead I get bouts of severe rage and explosive emotions without the build up.
