Four things to bear in mind here for the sake of levelheaded perspective. Having to adapt wording to get the comment through.
    1) The law regards any such interaction with individuals under the legal threshold as assault, irrespective of willingness, salubriousness, etc. Widespread, natural activity below that threshold will inflate the figures.
    2) Online transgressions include unwanted communication of that nature, so potentially includes flirtatious text messages that take things a little further than the recipient might want. Figures are likely inflated by cases of hormonal, immature individuals going too far in their communications. That's not to excuse the behaviour, but it's important to recognise the full diversity of transgressions before leaping to the conclusion that those doing the transgressing fit the stereotype of the middle-aged bogeyman.
    3) The 2003 Act (yes, the filter doesn't like the name of laws!) made any contact vaguely redolent of this a transgression. This will bring innocuous, willing interaction within the ambit of the figures.
    4) The 2015 Act made any communication vaguely redolent of this a transgression. This will bring innocuous, willing communication within the ambit of the figures too.
