    Hey Sola,
    I am currently in Year 11, and have my GCSE'S next month. I am terrified. My maths and english grades from my recent mocks are good. However, I am not happy with my science grades. I am studying Higher Separate sciences and from my recent mocks l(ast month) I received a 6 in Bio, 6 in Chem, and 8 in Physics. I just don't know what to do, because I really want to get 9's across all of my sciences. Science is holding back my attainment to pursuing good grades. I only have a month left, and am genuinely lost. Also, I am really struggling in History. Like I genuinely hate History with a passion. I have improved though, as I moved from a 4 to a 7 in my mocks. I just really can't pay attention in lesson, as I feel like I learn better at home. Please give my advice Sola. You are my only hope💕!

    • @SmileWithSola
      @SmileWithSola  Před rokem +16

      Hi Tanisha, hope you're doing good! I really recommend that you focus on where you're losing marks and figure out why - is it a matter of not phrasing it the right way (if so, do as many questions as you can, memorise the markscheme then revisit those questions in a few days), if it's because of lack of understanding - watch freesciencelessons video, research topic then do exam questions. If it's due to lack of memory (there's a lot of content I know!), then use flashcards - physics&mathstutor has really good premade flashcards you can do. If you're really worried, do these past papers and ask your teacher to go through them with you after school so they can give you the solutions to the questions. Science is all about memorising and understanding the markscheme - the same questions always come up. Also, I wasn't the best at history and I did not really listen in lessons, I always felt really tired. The most important thing is that you self-study and ensure that you know the content + how to answer the different types of questions. Give your teacher things to mark.

    • @SmileWithSola
      @SmileWithSola  Před rokem +6

      Do a whole past paper on the subject and analyse your results. Star the questions you struggled on and find out their related topics - these are your weak points. Also, go through the different years of exam papers - see the topics and questions that come up, and write down any topic you'd be not confident on answering. You can also look at the specification and scroll through, looking for any gaps of knowledge or understanding. Once you have these weak points, you can start to do specific exam questions for these topics in order of most hard to easiest. This should help you to improve before the exam. Hope this helps!

      You can find past papers by searching it on Google, for example you can search 'GCSE Biology AQA Paper 1' and it will come up on the official AQA website. To apply knowledge, you need to make sure the knowledge that you know relates back to the question and logically links. You will improve at this the more questions you do.

      Perhaps you could turn it into a game (apps like Kahoot! make it interactive and you almost feel as though you’re playing something enjoyable), or you could do wider research about a topic to spark more interest because you’re more likely to remember content that interests you. I also found rewarding myself when I’ve studied worked really well as a motivator - for example only letting myself have X if I revise for a certain period. Revision is a lot easier if you can get into a hyper focused state, and I find going somewhere such as a library where there are little to no distractions and leaving my phone at home forces me to revise, which in turn creates this hyper focus as I go through a list of everything I wanted to get done that day. Having said that, everyone is different so if you’re having trouble finding what works for you then try to make a list of every revision method and try each one for about 30 minutes, that way you can combine all of the methods that worked and make a routine where you know what you’re doing and at what time

    • @SmileWithSola
      @SmileWithSola  Před rokem +4

      It's normal to feel nervous around this time - I did as well! You need to prioritise revision over homework. Do homework as soon as it is set and give yourself a certain amount of time to do it e.g. first 30 mins once you get home. Your priority at this point should be past papers, do at least one past paper a day and learn from it. This reduces the amount that you have to do as you aren't running around doing different revision methods - past papers are the best proven method. You can learn SO much from them. Make yourself a timetable including homework time to ensure that you at least get one thing done per day. The most important thing is just to start, don't think about how much work you're doing and just do it. Hope this helps!

      Hi, don't worry, it's normal to feel scared. At this point try to do solely exam papers. Even if you don't know everything - do it, try your best, guess questions you don't know. For Maths, try to do every past paper. I know this sounds hard, but just set yourself a timer and do it. The more you do past papers (for any subject), the more your exposure is and the more likely for the same questions to come up in the exam. Don't get me wrong, it will be a tough couple of weeks and a lot of revision, but you've got this and I believe in you. It will all pay off in the end!

      1 day, 3 days, 7 days, 1 month, etc. It depends on how much you remember at the next session, if you find after one month you forgot almost everything, go back to the first interval.

    • @SmileWithSola
      @SmileWithSola  Před rokem +2

      It's definitely possible to improve your grade, but I can't say anything for sure about what specific grade you'll get because it ultimately depends on the exam day. From now on, do solely past papers and try to do as many as you can. Memorise the markscheme and focus on the topics you're losing the most marks on. Don't focus on perfection, it will cause you to be stressed and burn out - just focus on doing as best as you can :)

    hi sola, i got my gcses soon 😞 and i was wondering whether you think it's better to space out your subjects (like do maths on monday then do it again on wednesday) or just finish them one at a time before moving on ( eg. dedicate 3 days to biology and cover all the content until you're confident with everything then revise it for 20 minutes in a few days time) instead of spacing it out

    • @SmileWithSola
      @SmileWithSola  Před rokem +6

      Definitely space them out because you don’t want to be amazing in one subject and poor in the other. Make your revision timetable have variety but most hours should be spent on your harder exams. For example, if you’re struggling in maths try to do at least 30 mins every other day or even every day rather than 5 hours in one day. Hope this helps

    I feel like this is targeted towards me 0-0
    I'm doing history and RS this year and only got a 5 and 6 in my mocks. I'm still trying to memorise all the information for the two subjects and honestly I should've started earlier. I made a study timetable (although I'm lacking behind) and just don't know what to do. My goal is at least a 7 for the two subjects, do you have any tips?

    • @crazyfriend50
      @crazyfriend50 Před rokem +1

      For history i dont recommend normal revision because you learn so much stuff but the questions dont require that knowledge
      Just practice english skills and use common sense and a little knowledge to answer questions
      So far in the 3 mocks ive got 7s in all history attempts
      Without trying might i add

    • @SmileWithSola
      @SmileWithSola  Před rokem +2

      History & RS are luckily things which don't require too much understanding but mostly memorising. At this point, you should try effective cramming. For example, history - make sure you have the revision guides as they are WAY better than the book (check my description for my Amazon stonefront) - condense these into A5 sheets and then put 4 questions which basically get you to summarise the content from your head. For RS, turn each topic into an A4 mindmap, with different colours for quotes, key words and continuously blurt these until you memorise everything. You can also look at past paper questions for both and plan what you would write for these. Hope this helps and be sure to watch my videos on this subject because I go into way more detail!

    • @SmileWithSola
      @SmileWithSola  Před rokem +2

      Yes, do as many past papers as you can. Learn something from each past paper and figure out why you made the mistake. If you notice a topic you keep losing marks on then do a specific booklet on that using Physics & Maths Tutor. If you do all the past papers I guarantee you'll feel a lot more confident.
