This is best podcaster in indian context. I never commented before. But the host is knowledgeable, and wise. He knows to listen. Not excessively aggressive , no show off, hint of sarcasm. No calling out names. No foul languages. And not much formality. He is too Good in rapport building.

What happened to kolkata and its intellectualism is that.
It has progressed upto a certain point and at a stage when communism arrived intellectual completely accepted it.
But since 50 years or so, the same communist thought process remained as a stagnant matter.
Still u will hear same rheoteric will was actually quite popular during the rise of left in bengal.
So, "what bengal thinks today, india thinks tomorrow" has failed because.. kolkata intellectual stopped thinking beyond communism, better say they could not get out of it and see the new possibilities..
Being a bengali... I feel pity thinking about the possibilities of KOLKATA as economic hub, and what is it now...

@99 Ideas do define and shape the positions of power. Ideas do direct policymakers and planners. Even the evaluation of execution is done through the ideas we hold true. And finally, people come and go but the idea remains, forever.
I am bot negating the value of correct execution, but the correctness or failure is judged through the lens of ideas as well.

I am becoming a fan of Harsh. It is interesting to note "economic heft". I feel the growing economic heft in spite of low per capita GDP has a significant domino effect on the overall economy. I do not fail to get awed by the massive investment in Bangalore Metro, which would not have been possible earlier. I think the ability of doing such mega investments will certainly spur future growth.
However, I wish the government spent more money on aesthetics and cleanliness.

There are teachers also like Ansari sir from lukmaan IAS coaching who, in the name of ethics GS4, is subtly defending and watering down the issue of Indian Muslims cheering Indian cricket team defeat.
If our education system is filled with leftist gobar, how can we expect our educated youths to uphold Bharat’s Santana civilisational ethos.

My question is from Madhusudan - sir please tell us how are you going to achieve $ 5 trillion dollar Economy by 2024 to 2025 ?? While you don't have fixed exchange rate your exchange rate are on its peak & if you don't decline in exchange rate until & unless it will be possible to reach their.
    2) your household sector are continuously going down, you don't have concrete industrial policy & largely you depend on foreign entities, & if you really want to achieve the $ 5 trillion economy so you need for at least 24% growth rate per year while the whole India's economy has already broken the all targets to decline in real GDP so now let's measure just through the thumb rule of 72 & divide it by the no. of yrs within you want to achieve.
    3) India's Economy already struggling with the demand crunch because the peoples don't have money to spend.
    4) your banks prime lending rates are already touching clouds, peoples confidence has much more gone down even mainly from covid like pandemic & ofcourse from demonitisation & GST like apparatus.

How this guy nails the truth. We live in our past , abuse the non bengalees who are basically holding up our economy , hate our poverty but do nothing to alleviate it . Lack of economic opportunities drove us to join the CPM as the only means 9f earning well . Now it is the TMC. We live in an illusional world . There are ppl in Bengal who genuinely think that earning 5000/ per month is the best they deserve , living under political hooliganism is normal. Children of educated families refuse to live in Bengal after their Hsc. But who will explain all this to those who prefer being blind. Sitting at theks, passing lewd comments , speak a hindi mixed bastardized Bengalee, cite Tagore ( Vivekanand and Netaji is beyond the grasp of their knowledge) freely and criticize the rest of india.

There could be little negotiation on tariffs as it was forced on us due to crisis of currency. Liberalisation can not be done without opening up market. So the corollary was Nehru's protectionism. It was not a bad idea. In the 80s the family's TV, fridge, radio, scooter was all fully made in India. Most of them by state run industries. It created a base. Compare with Pakistan. Latin America. the license Raj was the bad thing. Free trade within India should have been encouraged. This man is very cleverly avoiding the issue of how tariffs on imports could have been maintained.

The population density data that he mentioned is wrong.
Bihar and west Bengal has almost the same population density (bihar~ 1100 and bengal~ 1020) as per 2011 census.
Another wrong claim he made is that an average indian uses highest data in world but actually it's not overall average data but rather it's at top position in average "cellular" data consumption.
The talk was good overall but he did mess up at mentioning the specific data points.

Indian story if not over is heavily in trouble. India got to focus on manufacturing and core research along with services to compete with China

India is having a varied agro climatic and has nearly all agro climatic present any where in the world
It also has largest Arable land of any country
Inspite of that we are not focussing on agriculture
economy of scale is not available to india farmer
Every one othr than a farmer can have as much land as he wishes but there is a limit on the land that a farmer can have
This puts the farmer in a very precarious situation and limits the contribution agriculture can make to the indian GDP

    Disagree on your demographic dividend.
Youths are wasting their time and are not productive. So it will be curse for India if education quality is not improved.
Graduates are unemployable. So practical education is need of the time.
