Few years ago she said in an interview that this song is the Hardest for her to perform cause it's way too close her heart but after seeing how much this song means to her fans. she found a new meaning in the song she feels joy to sing it now.

I read somewhere that she wrote this song just for herself and had no intention of putting it (the original) on the album because she thought it was way too personal and no one would like it. And it's probably her most iconic song and it wasn't even a single until just recently with the 10 minute version. I don't know what made her change her kind but I'm glad she did.

To me, the title All too well and her repeating I was there, I was there in the outro takes on a whole new meaning after learning that during that relationship Taylor experienced gaslighting and emotional manipulation. Because she is saying that after the relationship was over, she realizes that all of those things that he tried to convince only happened in her head were real. She remembers them all too well looking back.

You've had the luxury of pausing it to talk, but I'm a new Swifty, and this version was the first one I ever heard and it was brutal. I was right there in the story right away for personal reasons, and each section just piled on top of the last until I couldn't breathe. I just kept going with no idea what the time was, like well, if she can bear to suffer it, I can bear to witness it. Even now, I don't feel 10 minutes when I listen to it. Someone said she writes with a knife and damn. For real tho.

What I love about your reactions to Taylor Swift is that you show that listening to music is a conversation. I think Taylor writes that way--as if talking to a loved one or friend--and it seems your way of reacting--by sharing your own experiences--is a meaningful interaction. That is something worth returning to a reactor for.

She explained once that the plan was to record the short version of the song. The day she showed up to record everyone there could tell she was upset. She said she needed a minute before starting to get some things out. She just started singing, going on for ten minutes. At the end everyone sat speechless. Her mom leaned over to the producer who was there and whispered “I hope you recorded that
”
Later, they recorded the short version for the album and this went into the vault until Red TV was released w the vault tracks.

  • @Mravenrocks
    @Mravenrocks Pƙed rokem +108

This song was so meaningful and heartbreaking for Taylor than during the RED Tour in 2012/2013 (when the original version came out, she also super sad and used to go backstage to cry during the promotion of the album both because of this breakup and because one of her closest friends had died off an overdose and she wrote about it in an amazing song called "Forever Winter") she cried during most of her live performances, I remember being in the audience when she stopped during the song to cry. People in the audience started to sing it for her and cheer her up, it was super emotional and we were all crying.
She has publicly said that the fans have changed this song for her into a collage of happy memories and people screaming the song with her and it doesn't make her cry anymore.
I also really liked your comparison with Tool, while I would love Taylor having Carey quality drums, she can still be very innovatie with her music like her album 1989 bringing back a new wave of 80s inspired pop or with the Folklore album being a mix of indie and americana type of sound.

This is the hardest song she ever created. She started making this song back in 2010/2011 when she was in her 2nd headline tour. It took 10-11 months for her to finish this song alone. The original version is like 20 minutes version, then she asked Liz Rose to help her cut the song to fit in her album with 10 minutes demo. But her label at that time push her to make it even short, so Taylor & Liz cut the song again to 5 minutes version and the song presented in her 4th album "RED" back in 2012. Since then, this song became her fans national anthem. So when her label screw her masters issue back in 2019, she decided to re-record her first 6 albums and while making RED Taylor's Version, she added this 10 minutes demo. In 2021, this song went #1 and become the longest song to ever peaked at the top of the charts.

It's a great song, I'm a newer fan of Taylor too (Started during lockdown when she released Folklore, didnt realize how much of an amazing songwriter she is... one of the top) and its cool to see your reactions were similar to mine lol. You'll see in her catalog she has her radio hits, but its the songs that aren't radio hits that are some of the best.
You should check out Folklore/Evermore if you want a highly lyrical storytelling alternative type sound, Red (Taylors Version) for a more upbeat pop rock album, or Fearless (Taylors version) for a country rock vibe. She is re-recording all of her past albums which is why they're labelled Taylors version, so Red and Fearless are what she's done so far. People suspect 1989 (her pure pop album) to be the next one coming. So its a good time to start!

@@belpop Err She has her new Album Midnights coming out on October 21. 1989 (TV) & Speak Now (TV) are undoubtedly already recorded and waiting for release but both are embroiled in the Courts. 1989 because of the Shake It Off trial which has now been put off till January (ludicrous) and Speak Now is caught up with Trademark litigation over the use of "Speak Now" which has been Trademarked by OnePlus. It could be that they cut a mutually beneficial deal but we'll have to see.
Oh I should have said that each time someone approaches her "team" for the rights to use one of her songs, it is refused unless it is one that has been rerecorded or one she owns already. Apparently they get a couple of hundred requests a day. "This Love (TV)" was used for the trailer of The Summer I Turned Pretty back in May 2022 (don't know if it was in actual film).

There's added parts throughout the song, the first one being the 'key chain on the ground' verse. The bridge that's really powerful beginning with 'well maybe we got lost in translation' is in the original short version as well. So basically what I'm trying to say is that the 10 minute version isn't the original plus 5 more minutes added at the end, it has added parts throughout the song and an elongated ending. Just something to note. The original version is beautiful but not as descriptive in the hurt she experienced caused by specific actions.

Loving your journey. I started my journey in 7/2020. Taylor writes to help make sense of feelings, situations, memories, experiences. Often she writes about an event in different ways, different perspectives, different times, different reflections after time has passed and you see things differently. So often events pop up in other songs, songs become linked. It’s called the Taylor MCU, or the TCU. One song that goes with this is called the moment I knew, she references this song in All Too Well (10). Another song in this same style is called Dear John and I find it to be just as good if not better.
She writes very directly a lot if the time as you pointed out, but she does use a lot of metaphors in her writing too. If you aren’t used to it, you miss it. One would be Coney Island (ft the National), it’s a metaphor, she’s not really at Coney Island, but a metaphor for a place/relationship that was once fun and exciting but now the sun is going down a d it’s getting cold and it’s not fun anymore.

    • @RobGamesOn
      @RobGamesOn Pƙed rokem +3

      The TCU... I like that.
Cardigan, August, Betty... all off Folklore and all three are connected... then add Willow from Evermore as it's the sequel to Cardigan.
The entire Red album for the most part. All Too Well 10 minute version references so many songs off the album.
The Moment I Knew: this verse is basically that whole song.
      ATW10:
"Not weeping in the party bathroom, some actress asking me "what happened?" You! That's what happened. You!
You who charmed my dad with self-effacing jokes. Sipping coffee like you were on a late night show. But then he watched me watch the front door all night, willing you to come. And he said "it's supposed to be fun turning 21."
State of Grace: Speaking of the fact both Taylor and Jake are saggitarius. "Twin fire signs. Four blue eyes."
ATW10: "And did the twin flame bruise paint you blue?"
Sad, Beautiful, Tragic: "What a sad, beautiful, tragic love affair."
ATW10: "Just between us, did the love affair maim you too?"
I Bet You Think About Me:
"But reality crept in, you said we're too different. You laughed at my dreams, rolled your eyes at my jokes."
ATW10: "But I've never been good at telling joke but the punchline goes, "I'll get older but your lovers stay my age.""
Then there's the link between "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together" and "I Bet You Think About Me" from Taylor's Version.
WANEGBT: "And you would hide away and find your peace of mind
With some indie record that's much cooler than mine."
I Bet You Think About Me: "I bet you think about me when you're out at your cool indie music concerts every week."

She was singing Our Song and something in my head told me I was hearing the future of music. I saw her in concert with Brad Paisley that fall and again in the spring of 2008 with Rascal Flatts. Also bumped into her at the local Children's Hospital that day and told her she be as big as The Beatles one day. (I grew up with The Beatles.) She gave me a big hug. Been name dropping ever since lol. When you meet Taylor Swift, you gotta tell everybody. Saw her in Fargo on her 1989 tour. Sat and cried all the way through.

I just wanted to let you know that I absolutely love your reaction videos! You seem so down to earth and raw and real and human. We lack that kind of rawness on social media often times nowadays!
(Also, the fact that he has a pattern of dating far younger women, at some point or another, is just gross.)

Nah, not about you! You did Taylor proud but I did not see that you also reacted to the movie!!! Any question about Taylor’s point of view regarding her relationship with Jake will be made clear with it.
BUT, I was watching you and I think that you are a sensitive and intelligent person!!!
Also brave! Like all of my favorite reactors, it takes guts to put yourself out there. đŸ‘ŠđŸ„‡

Nee Subscriber here! I just found your channel after watching your podcast. I was gonna go straight to BTS but saw that you did Taylor's "ALL TOO WELL!" Tysvm for being genuines & open minded. You should watch the short film, it was directed by Taylor herself!! Sooo good! You mentioned ur not a vocal line guy, but I think when you see stuff like BTS & Taylors lyrics & the deep message behind them, that you'll start appreciating the the slower poppy songs. You don't have to like them all the time or add them to ur play list, but I think you'll understand more of the deeper meanings! Borahae 💜
I'm lookimg forward to bimge watching your channel

Hi! If you are super interested in beautiful lyrics, Halsey has some gorgeous ones as well as a short film situation. (I know this is a weird video to bring her up, but I was watching the BTS videos, and she was there, and then something you mentioned reminded me you haven't listened to her music!)

I love that you reacted to the lyrics video instead of the music video. “All Too Well” is a great song but that music video makes me cringe and when others react to it I feel like the focus is more on what’s playing out on the screen as opposed to the music. Anyway, I enjoyed hearing your thoughts on this and seeing how you appreciated the songwriting.

    Hi, like your reactions!!
It's difficult to me to say this,( cause I don't want to start an Issue but..) maybe there's some people that think the same as me :
In my opinion, the terrible trauma She went through, makes Her not telling all in the song.....but left some hints. In my perception, He forced Her to things She doesn't want in that moment; She was raised in a Christian Family and with a golden innocent heart ❀.So lyrics like "down the stairs I was there" ( hiding)
    " Sacred prayers" ( please for God's Sake, don't.... )
" When You make Me your Own "
And the word "rare" in " that was rare , You were there " always seems to me like don't make much sense ,but for just One letter it can say " rape "
    Is just my opinion
    I hope I'm wrong!!!

The originally released version is a masterpiece, this one although a treat to swifties, it's quite boring and long-winded for a casual listen, I only listened to it once to get the tea and never again, lol.
I think *I Bet You Think About Me* is a good sassy song that complements this story, it's pretty FUNNY and savage, I would hate to be Jake and have *that* being about me, lol.

When I first listened to it I thought the same thing..I was like this is good but it is long
and then the shorter version came on one day and when it supposed to get to the new lines I was like what the heck and turned on the 10 minute version lol never listened to the shorter version again😂
