- How Caterpillar Went From A Local Company To A Billion Dollar Business
If we talk about industrial history, few stories resonate with as much innovation, perseverance, and global impact as that of Caterpillar Inc. Starting small in the rich soils of California, Caterpillar has grown into a major player on the world stage, showing the power of human creativity, resilience, and never-ending pursuit of progress.
Welcome to Extreme Force, the ultimate destination for :

A truck driver I spoke to said he didn't opt for a Cat Diesel because it was originally designed for a grader. Also a very clever bit of advertising: "if it's not a Cat, it's a dog!"
he was correct in telling you this if it was 1965...
Cat has multiple engine models used in various applications...
I grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area, just a few miles from the Caterpillar factory in San Leandro, CA. It wasn't until I was older that I understood the industrial treasure that it was.
that's dealership (Peterson Cat), not a factory
Appreciate these overview videos. Thankyou.
I grew up using CAT equipment, mainly a very reliable CATD6, cable operated lift for the blade.
I thought this might be interesting, I was wrong.
Absolute AI rubbish.
Interesting , Thank You. Well trained an equipped Dealer ships are MORE important than ever
No mention in the video of owner Right to Repair for owners of equipment too huge and expensive to haul to the dealer every time a system fails and can't be repaired without access to software CAT has refused to sell to owners.
When it comes to heavy equipments and Diesel engines CATERPILLAR is the best.
I worked For Wortham in Cheyenne and Casper , Peterson in Ca, Mc Coy in Denver, Wyoming Equipment in Cheyenne Beat of all lead man for Holt in Stockton for several years. Always a great place to work.
Good documentary but Holt did NOT "invent the steam tractor." That was the collective effort of several individuals and was well on its way by 1890.
Man and his genius machine
One accusation was not covered very well in this video, was the accusation of Electro Motive Division locomotive of General Motors by Catapiller into Progress Rail in 2010.
The epa has destroyed cat
errors and sloppy ie First Steam Tractor ... was not Holt .. ie 1841, Ransomes, Sims & Jefferies and many many others
Interesting! Always thought it's a Midwest company. But it's actually from California!
Originating in California but it IS a Midwest company.
How will we keep these machines working without fossil fuels?
Fossil fuels are not going away, be realistic.
Top question. Love it! Can you imagine EV machines constructing the new Suez Canal? Ha!
Pretty good, You failed to mention they sell Cat engines to the military also.
Yes. Israel has lots of them. How many houses do you think they've knocked down?
We stopped counting unfortunately
The BEST , You don't get that way by producing junk. Known world wide.
Should have stopped at about 12 minutes.
The only US company that survived into our times. The '40's on.
Is that Simon whistler’s voice?!?
I showed up to see the "Mother of all" CAT tractors (like in the video thumbnail). But I'm in 17min of a 19min video and nada... I'm calling it a day. Thanks anyway.
Hey, Caterpillar design engineers, don't you folks think that it is about time that you think a little bit outside the box by having the operator's cab being in the front, and the engine in the back to where the operator can actually see what he or she is doing? You could perhaps put this forward placed cab on a hydraulic lift extension configuration? I mean..., duuuuuh..., how about being able to see what is being worked on?
Totally agree engine at back cab up front
@@svenlarsen4876 Yeah, like what are they waiting for?
So call them up or go to the nearest dealer? This is a very good video, however it isn't made by Caterpillar.
@@CrackerFL Good point, but the thing is that Caterpillar is more likely to hear about this 'average Joe' idea that they've probably already thought about in private, by monitoring what the public is saying and thinking about their product on these social media sites than if someone were to call a Caterpillar 'home office' or something like that which would very probably get you transferred to the 'kook calling' extension. This is to say that if my comment were to receive a few hundred thumbs ups and a whole bunch of replies and comments, it would carry a whole lot more weight than my individual voice, and Caterpillar would no doubt hear about it.
Your point is quite valid
especially so with what the blade does and such ltd vision on soil movement
Good thinking…👊🔥‼️

As a mill wright, electrician, teamster, operator, carpenter, glazier? CAT is always reliable! Tough, and ready!. Not? sexy, nice, or pretty, nevermind glomorous? Just a Good Tool! for Most applications?
Down the road from "Quinn Cat" CA.
“A bether world” 😂 cat buldozed the intire jungle
WHY DO YOU HAVE A FAKE CAT BULLDOZER PCTURE FOR??? LOL!!!
didn't "tracked vehicles" start with military tanks?
Baby Shit Yellow
I thought this was going to be about JCB
Honest, I laughed out loud!
I have no respect for ANY of these manufacturers anymore. Anything built after 1990 is junk.
What a lot or BS. His plans had to go on paper
Not BS his plans would eventually go on paper. Another inventor , Bill Lear worked just like that. He's got a problem with his airplane , he would make a sketch and hand the old part and sketch to the machine shop foreman, in a few hours, he would get a new part and he test it. It drove the engineers nuts and they have to keep up with changing records , Lear went through a lot of engineers.
The video conveniently did not mention Caterpillar clever business move by getting out of the on highway trucking engine business. Must have saved them $ billions of R and D and they can always copy and get back in at a future date. They can now of course thumb their noses at places like Calif. especially seeing the failure of electric power. Go ahead, make a law mandating all your cars and trucks to be electric by say 2030? and see what will happen to your economy. The lesson would be forced down the Calif. legislature's throats, you cannot legislate tech advances, things will be invented when they get invented. Electrics are of course not ready for prime time.
White men keeping innovation alive & well
You kept repeating yourself ad nauseum, did not give specifics on models and even acted surprised that cat were still into agricultural machinery. A very poor presentation in my opinion!
SO SAD TO HEAR THEY ARE GOING OUT OF BUSINESS. I CALLED ABOUT A DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID THEY ARE NOT ADDING ANYMORE. LOOKS LIKE THEY WILL BE OUT OF BUSINESS IN THE NEXT COUPLE OF YEARS.
Who's going out of business?... Caterpillar???
@lrcavalli290 No more Dealerships. They are Not producing enough to add anymore.
Ok...I live in California, about 150 miles north of Stockton (Chico) and I would have thought we'd hear something about them going out of business,if that were the case
And now Owned by China !
Great video! Not! You haven't told us what these machines can do. A top video would have explained which problem each design was built to solve. Very lazy; useless in fact.
