PPG wave 2.2 Wavetable Synthesizer from the year 1982
The PPG Wave 2.2 is the direct successor of the Wave 2 but with 2 oscillators. Only 500 Wave 2.2 were manufactured.
The sound character is different to the later Waldorf Microwave synths and different to the Wave 2.3.

- 30 Wavetables with 64 waves per table
- analog 24 dB/oct lowpass SSM 2044 VCF
- Curtis CEM 3360 VCAs

I remember lusting after these when they came onto the market in the early 80's. Couldn't afford one then, can't afford one now. Still a highly desirable instrument though.

@@PvaeerenerBased on what I have observed, the PPG wave 2.2 does not appear on eBay or Reverb.com very often. Usually the asking price for a 'perfect' PPG wave2.2 from is more that $6000 US. !

From the sound, it seems one of these was used at the beginning of Re-Flex's "The Politics of Dancing" (1983). Great sound.

@@acelalacelal3250 Yes, I think that is the patch, maybe shaped a little differently though on that Depeche Mode track. What a great synthesiser! Iconic in its day.

Back the days I use to play a wave 2.0 which had the real typical wave sound. 2.1 and 2.2 are pretty different instruments. Nobody seems to know these days.
1 osc. and CEM filter vs. 2 Osc. and SSM filter. I like the 2.2 more.

Any idea if this was used in Mystic Rhythms by Rush, because I've heard this was used and I can recognize some of the sounds. I'm looking for the preset used around 1:06 (in the aforementioned song) where it sounds like brass/orchestral hits or something?
It definitely sounds like a chord used in Hong Kong movie productions for shock value like in Jet Li's Fist of Legend during a fight scene where he jumpkicks a fellow student. Any idea?

Yes, Geddy used a Wave quite extensively during the production of Power Windows and on a couple other albums.
Rush used the PPG 2.2 and 2.3 on Grace Under Pressure right through Hold Your Fire
