    I was absolutely in love with her when I was about 15. I wrote to her, she sent me a signed pic, and I wrote back thanking her for the pic, she wrote me a full letter thanking me for thanking her! She told me that that never happens, and was very grateful. I still have that cherished letter!

    If there was any doubt about Leslie Caron's capacities as a serious actress, her guest appearance on "Law and Order: Special Victims Unit" as a survivor of rape, who was trying to help a much younger woman come to terms with her own violation, utterly eliminated it. You felt an entire life's worth of remembered pain every time she spoke. At the other end of the spectrum was her performance in "Lili", where she played scene after scene that, in the hands of a lesser actress, would have been unbearably syrupy and sentimental, and instead transmuted them into something poignant and deeply moving. Pure gold, both on and off the screen.

      That scene at the end of her Law and Order SVU episode, where the man who raped her all those years ago is convicted, the way she walks, the burden she’d been carrying for years is lifted. It’s wonderful. I believe she got nominated for an Emmy for that guest role

    She was a wonderful dancer, but I remember her MOST fondly for FANNY -- with Horst Buchholz, Charles Boyer and Maurice Chevalier -- a charming, very touching film with an especially beautiful background score.
    She has held up MARVELOUSLY. I am s glad, she's still very much alive.

      It is truly one of the most beautiful love scenes ever filmed with -- as you say -- the most touchingly beautiful love theme accentuating the deeply moving love Fanny reveals to Marius. Because it touches in us the most basic yearning so convincingly by the lovely Fanny and Marius it couldn't be more powerful. An absolutely delicious and wonderful movie moment given by these two gifted actors .

    A living work of art! How elegant she looks today, a reminder of the impact she must have had at the peak of her career. I hope she gets the recognition she deserves as she stared with so many great actors...Astaire, Bogart, Holden, Kelley, Jordan, Chevalier, and least of all Cary Grant to name a few. How many actresses of the day could boast about that.

    Leslie is and has always been stunningly gorgeous. As a little girl I was fascinated by her and thought that she was the epitome of beauty, grace, and charm and everything a woman should be. It's good to see her still going strong.

    A friend in London told me she used to take dance class as an older woman to stay in shape, and that she was lovely, elegant, polite, and sweet. How can one not be in love with her? She still slays me in "An American in Paris".....

  • @XtremeKaiba
    @XtremeKaiba Před 10 lety +10

    Lili is the one I like. I have seen Gigi, An American in Paris, Cinderella, and Father Goose with her(which I like them all). I love her innocence in Lili and how she progresses from being a girl to a woman and learning about love.

    Ms. Caron starred in arguably the greatest of the Arthur Freed produced MGM musicals An American In Paris and Gigi as well as Daddy Long Legs with Fred Astaire and Father Goose with Cary Grant. She also made the difficult transition to dramatic films, winning acclaim and an Oscar nomination for The L-Shaped Room and an Emmy for an episode of Law and Order.

    6:22 she got into a censorship problem - seeing that dance scene is a little risque.

      +John Sweeney That's David Haye, a retired boxer. Also a vegan. Dual-citizen of the UK and North Cyprus. This is all right off the wikipedia page. And his name is in the description. Basic literacy tells you this. So, that makes you a dope. He's boxer who defeated six world champions and is so averse to violence he doesn't even eat eggs. Even if you were using gangster loosely, it wouldn't fit. But, you. Here are are. In all your smallness and trivialness and functional illiteracy.

That's Betty Wand dubbing her voice in Gigi, and she didn't sing in An American In Paris.... there's demo tracks of her attempting the songs from Gigi, and she honestly cannot sing!! But no-one would ever know now... who cares anyway. she's still a legend!

    I really like her movies! But it makes me sad the way she hesitated after seeing the black man, and asked the host if it was safe. Did she think, just based on his skin color, that she was in danger? Really? How frustrating and awkward for the man to be judged by an icon as dangerous simply for being himself. I lost a little respect for her image.
