    See you have been receiving a lot of negative comments under all these laser review videos.
    I just wanted to say thank you! I've been in the market for a hobby-level laser for some time now, and all the different options are overwhelming.
    These videos are a great help in further understanding options and useful features to look for when buying.
    As for all the negative responses, these people don't fully understand the time, money, dedication and resources it takes to tackle even the smallest project let alone huge scale machines that you built, plus take the time to film, edit and post.
    Keep it up,
    Cheers mate

      20W diode lasers all pretty much have the same engraving and cutting performance. Any differences would be in their construction, ie structural design, and accessories like build platforms, extension kits, rotaries, etc.

    They sent me one and it broke before I could even finish filming content. The x axis just randomly broke. Wouldn't home all the way to the left. I have the other LM3 10W and I always have issues with that one as well. I get random Error 9 g code locked out during alarm state. Even after I reset the machine and lightburn each time and type in $33=2000. It'll still randomly stop during jobs on some projects ruining them. I hate Ortur. Their support is useless. Have you been having any issues with yours?

    is it possible to color engrave aluminum? Thank you for answer

    • @marcoss6212
      @marcoss6212 Před 10 měsíci

      Very good question, would like an answer. Aluminum is hard to engrave or mark with diode laser has almost no effect because of its composition, unless you treat it with a spray for laser engraver first, metal markings sprays are not cheap, matter of finding the right spray to treat aluminum with. You can start with "Enduramark" brand or "Brilliance". I'm assuming it can be achieved but the introduction of a chemical (spray) might not give the subtle colors. I have some testing to do NOW, will post with results.

    How is it at etching photos onto steel or metal. Thinking of doing some photos of people etching onto steel where the steel is still silver but the etched areas are more of a black tone. Have you tried photos onto leather?

    • @JamesBiggar
      @JamesBiggar  Před 9 měsíci +1

      It'll etch metal as well as it engraves wood. Photos can be tricky if there's a lack of lighting or contrast, but if you have a good photo to work with then it works fine. Positives, negatives. I could've dialed the settings in more and gotten a better result from the tests that I showed, but it's pretty much what you see is what you get across the board. Wood, metal, leather. It works them all fine in high resolution. It just takes time to find the right settings for the look that you want. I recommend starting with scraps first to get to know the machine. It comes with a list of parameters for cutting and engraving different materials, but these are just a rough guide because material composition and density is going to vary at least some, even between different batches from the same producer. There are different types of stainless steel made with different types and quantities of alloys, for example. If you etch metal, make sure to order a little extra from the same batch so that you have a bit of waste for dialing in the settings before etching. If you try a different piece of stainless from a different supplier, then you might not get the same results. Especially when we're talking about colour etching. It etches by slightly melting and deforming the surface into a raised texture while oxidizing it to produce different colours depending on how much heat's applied, which is controlled by the speed, power and interval settings. Ie lower speed, higher power and/or tighter intervals = more heat and typically darker colours. The blues and yellows are usually hiding in the middle-low end of the spectrum. But changing just a few points makes a noticeable difference between shades and colours.

      @@JamesBiggar wow thank you for a very fast and detailed reply. I recently came across a article and a video of a man that makes pet memorial's. His materials of choice were typically concrete, large river rocks, granite, etc. Those are all time consuming and costly to ship. I've been wanting to use a laser for engraving onto metal items. After seeing his story I got the idea of pet memorial's using a metal form which is different from his materials, cost is a lot less. I've also looked at a cnc table set up to cut my own patterns. This is why I was asking about photos on steel. I think using steel cutouts is a different concept

    When you do stainless steel engraving can u feel the engraving depth with your fingers or it just feels etched? thanks!

    • @JamesBiggar
      @JamesBiggar  Před 10 měsíci +2

      It's etched, but I think you might be misunderstanding the term. Etching isn't just marking, it's the opposite of engraving. It melts the surface to cause it to expand and create a raised texture as opposed to engraving. You can feel it just as you can an engraving, and it's just as permanent. It's not coming off unless you grind it off.

    @litljones Před 8 měsíci

    What piece did your order from Ortur for the colored laser?

    • @JamesBiggar
      @JamesBiggar  Před 8 měsíci +1

      No extra parts required. The laser module produces colours on stainless steel (only) by etching and oxidizing the surface with heat. Varying the amount of heat focused on the surface at a given moment will produce varying colours and shades. You can increase or decrease the heat by increasing or decreasing the power, speed, or interval count, as shown in the video.

    • @JamesBiggar
      @JamesBiggar  Před 8 měsíci

      You can create colours on other materials by using a marking agent, which is basically a type of paint made specifically for laser engravers.

    which did you like better the ortur 20W or the laserpecker 2?

    • @JamesBiggar
      @JamesBiggar  Před 26 dny +1

      Doesn't matter what I like better. I showed both working fine for what they do. The question you should ask yourself is 'what do I NEED'? Compare the specs. One has a 4x4" work area with a 5W laser meant for tiny projects. Good for an avg diy'er who isn't interested in taking on serious projects, just little trinkets and stuff. The other has a ~15x15" work area and a 20W laser built for the avg woodworker. That's 14X more work area, 4x more power but only twice the cost.

    votre machine bip car vous n'avez pas inserer la micro sd si vous aviez suivie le manuelle d'installation vous aurez vu qu'il y avait cette micro sd a mettre et quelle est tres importante vous allez tuer la machine a l'utiliser sans

    • @JamesBiggar
      @JamesBiggar  Před 11 měsíci

      J'ai suivi le manuel, mais le kit n'incluait pas de carte SD pour s'adapter à la fente à l'intérieur du cadre. Ils ont envoyé une carte micro SD et un lecteur de carte USB à la place d'une carte SD - ceux-ci ne sont pas compatibles avec la fente pour carte SD sur le cadre intérieur, seulement la fente USB sur le coin extérieur, et il n'y a qu'une seule fente USB. Si la carte sd est impérative, alors Ortur devrait l'inclure à la place de la micro sd, ou ils devraient fournir deux ports usb afin que l'utilisateur puisse connecter le lecteur de carte et le câble usb pour fonctionner via lightburn et lasergrbl comme ils le suggèrent dans ce même manuel . Deux choses ne peuvent pas occuper le même espace en même temps, physique 101, et vous ne pouvez pas faire fonctionner cette machine sans PC ou application mobile. Les représentants d'Ortur ont examiné la vidéo avant de la publier, donc si le bip indiquait un problème grave qui pourrait endommager la machine, n'auraient-ils pas dit quelque chose ? Le manuel ne dit pas non plus que ne pas utiliser la carte SD endommagera la machine. Peut-être savez-vous quelque chose qu'Ortur ne sait pas ?
