Shanghai has always had the cyberpunk aesthetic. Underground culture really has to stay underground. It can't be exploited and commercialized and watered down.

Daniel Tynan How do you explore the underground scene? I've been to Shanghai twice but it seems almost jaded to me. Maybe it'd be a breath of fresh air in my journey next time I visit.

I've lived in Shanghai for the 14 years. It's extremely easy to bypass the firewall. Either get a free VPN and make do with a slow connection or purchase a VPN and use that. I have a subscription to one VPN provider (the one she is using at 3:29) for over two years now and have had very few issues even though the price is $100 a year. All in all it should take around 5 minutes to "break through the great firewall"

It‘s not a problem for us to get an access to the blocked sites. The problem is that our ideas on education are still superficial: most of us know 'what it is', but don't know 'why it's like this' or 'how should we deal with it'. The Government is scared of somthing while ignoring the cause of it.

I think for these artists not having CZcams, Soundcloud, Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, Google actually gives them an creative edge. They are genuinely creative and revolutionairy because they evade the normal pathway of society. When they would enter the above mentioned platforms their creative and revolutionairy mind would be guided by another algorithm albeit arguably less restrictive than those they are guided by now. I do not consider Western artists who use Instagram ect. truly revolutionairy because they are being colonized by these companies. These people are reduces to non-human abstractions and sold. You could see it as modern colonialism. After colonialism came industrialisation. After this new (massive free data gathering) time their will be another spurt in industrialisation (A.I. etc.). Be revolutionairy, fight the power.
