  • Robert Culp (I-Spy) hosts this bizarre documentary from 1969, which ostensibly is designed to deprogram white people from their cultural bias against blacks, but by the end, completely flips to demonstrate the need for black pride and a Nationalistic culture. Imagine walking into a social studies class back in the day and being show this. It has to be seen to believed. Featuring a young Michael Richards (Seinfeld) as a racist bully. Being 63 and white, I have seen the situation improve dramatically *until the last decade* . I don't know how we got here. Things were advancing steadily, not for everyone of course, but I truly believe we were on the right track. Ever since the 2008 crash, things have steadily gone downhill. It's like I woke up one day and was back in the 60's. I'm here trying to understand why.

    • @Moon_Rise100
      @Moon_Rise100 Před 4 lety +17

      @@AGirlHasNoName829 I think you know why and how. By you being a white person, it's up to you to get other white people to see the racism and prejudice, black people go through every single day. It's not up to black people. We are tired of trying to convince white people at this point in time. It's up to people like you to show other white folks the era of their ways. Stop being in denial of the cruelty blacks have endured by your people. I think another possible solution is to believe that white children that are now adults were not educated about black people and slavery, especially whites from the South. There has to be a conversation starting with the truth.

    Now, in 2020 post Covid19 (we hope), whites are about to understand some of the fundamentals of this video. Incentive of huge unemployment benefits has already shown people will choose not to work when given the option. With the rise of technology, this will become more widespread. A system MUST be developed to compensate for the loss of jobs, thus hope for the upcoming generation as well as those who were once part of "productive" society. The golden age will be preceded by much pain and misery. We must come together...there is no choice. The wealth gap *must* be bridged. How is up to us all. Our civilization for future generations depends on it. The answer is communication and love. Make it happen...please!

    Im listening.. And as a "white" woman.. This is my 5th doc from reelblack. I was never taught black and white bc my mom is from Brazil.. So she didnt know bc she also worked for the white man.. But now as I look white (my dad's from North border Canada, and I look "privliaged" I will share why the blacks are where they are bc of lack of opportunity. From the beginning when they were free from slavery, blacks did not have education to pass along to their children to get a better job.. And couldn't.. At least in the south. The system has completely failed the black society. By giving them help and Welfare has only hurt. It was the American way of saying "here we'll just pay you from all the damage we've done" but it's barely enough to get by.. I'm blown away and have learned more about this at 44 than I have ever known. Here's the question. Do we teach our children that it was never fair? Do we teach them that black lives are no different than white. As a homeschool mother, I intend to teach my kids the way of this history and why we are here.. I just want to make sure that my kids understand that there is no difference between black and white Spanish or German.. Irish, English.. All is dark history. We are all mothers to children and want them to have better then us.. we have to embrace the different cultures, the different foods, the different way we talk, we just have to somehow come together and just all get along.

      Their is really no difference genetically to determine race. However, there are man made social constructs that establish division and pecking orders. Yet, no real differences. You compare people in similar circumstances. You see they react similarly. Yet, divisions and fear, xenophobia is here to stay. Especially as long as resources are limited. There must be an answer to why ghettos exist, and police brutality, and etc

    @reelblack i believe this film did not demonstrate the need to for a black Nationalistic american culture. i believe it demonstrated the reverse torque if u will, needed in order to equalize america. black power=power to the people=equality. it sounds nationalistic, perhaps supremacist, but you must build an oppressed people back up through rhetoric that is black focused in order to kick start self-empowerment. this is not nationalistic this is black-centric for the purpose of equality... crazy film. so glad to have been able to watch it.

    It's normal to be uncomfortable around the unknown, but the cruelty and disrespect is unacceptable. Children when they are young are innocent yet curious. When I went to my cousins wedding, that was a mixed couple, the little kids that was of different races was playing with each other and asking different questions about appearances. We as adults try to ignore our differences to try and be neutral. This doesn't fix the problem. Be real. You will be amazed at how far it goes when meeting people from different cultures and background. This documentary was interesting and it involves race relations but can be applied to anyone who is different.

It appears that the only exception was the suburban girl that was showing off the house. And even they had to make her sound "white". This tells me that even the filmmakers got caught up in their own racial stereotypes!

Removing All in the Family and the Jeffersons will not fix racism without getting to the core of the problem.

    I'm not sure why Reelblack described this documentary as "bizarre." The title of the video doesn't match the content wlell. I've heard and or been exposed to pretty much (through personal experience or society) every bit of information/situations depicted in this video. I was two when it was released. Although some progress, in awareness has been made, the video is still applicable today. Society needs to keep moving forward on any progress it's currently made.
