I have never put my hair in a fancy bun (without a trip to the salon). They never hold and I suck at doing my own hair aside from a ponytail. However, with a Gatsby themed cocktail party coming up for a friend's housewarming, I felt I had to do this to match the brand new dress. Thanks a bunch.

bless you - my thick - SUPER thick - straight hair has always been a nightmare. I wear it in a high ballet bun every day because it is just too long and too thick to deal with. 4 sets of hot rollers to get through it all was what I did in college - I do not have that kind of time. I'm so excited to have a style for my husbands work party. Much love!

Me too ! And I don't want to cause frizz and breakage by pushing my hair up the shaft so twirling the hair gently then just pinning versus pushing then pinning works for me

Mai Trang Le I can relate, black hair tends to make my hard work in hairstyles disappear! instead of dyeing (which can be harmful to the hair) have you tried a light oil or a shine spray?

Well, that looks so nice, but it's not that difficult to work with thick and wavy hair and get nice results. Could you show a similar style updo for thin (i.e. delicate) and straight hair, please?
My one girlfriend has very straight hair, she bought a hairpiece for the back that looks like a big bun , she just take her hair back and loosen it and work her hair around the bun, thats the only way she can wear a style like this, maybe a soft perm wouls do the trick , I hope you finds a solution that makes you sparkle.

Debbie it’s just not curly lol 😂 this hairstyle might work on someone with actual curly hair, but it might not. When someone searches up “curly hair” they are looking for a hairstyle for curly hair, not wavy. There’s a difference between loose texture and spiral curls, and it’s important to distinguish those differences because wavy and curly hair work differently. Not all hair that has texture is curly. Would you say that 2b and 4a hair are the same?
Do this style works with really curly hair but not so long? But i mean like seriously curly. . Not just wavy. I would really like an updo but without having to use heat on my hair. Help plz!!!!

lol, yeah, "curly". The hairstyle is beautiful but her hair isn't curly at all. They're pretty wavy, but definitively not curly.
Maybe it doesn't show her naturally curly hair because I had combed it out, but girl friend her hair is super curly and the twisting and braiding technique works awesome for curly to wavy hair. Thanks for the comment! x

I dont think this is very "curly" even if her hair is combed out from her natural state, her hair is gorgeous and to die for but she has a very definite wave even if its a "curlier wave", to be honest im kind if jealous because i definitely couldn't do this look on my actually curly hair tight little corkscrews and all
