Premo Sculpey Polymer Clay Colors - Raw vs Baked

  • Video #692: For the most part, Premo colors are pretty good about not changing colors after they have been properly cured... More Info: www.beadsandbea... Polymer Clay Tutor.
    In this video I will go through all of the Premo Sculpey Polymer Clay Colors, and show you show the differences between raw versus baked samples.
    Some polymer clay colors change when baked... we often refer to this as color shift. Each brand is different as to how much color shift can occur after baking, as well as each color within a brand.
    I thought I would show you every single color in the current Premo Sculpey line, so you can see a side by side comparison of each color and how they look when cured.
    You will see that some colors don't shift at all, where others get darker or more translucent. Knowing this about the colors you use, will yield more predictable results with your polymer clay projects.
    I hope to do similar videos of other polymer clay lines in the future.

    This is why you always swatch EVERY new art supply, even clay. It makes sense that colors change when you bake clay. Most things change color when you bake them, food, clay, etc. It would also be a good idea, if you need a specific end color, to mix the color you THINK you need, and then bake a small sample piece of the color to see if it changes at all and adjust accordingly.

    This is very helpful. I immediately went to find periwinkle and wisteria (at that point in the video) and couldn’t. Jungle I found but it was hard. I wish that places like Amazon, Michael’s, Hobby Lobby or Walmart would just sell ALL of one whatever brand they have. Trying to cobble together everything I want or need from multiple sources is kinda crazy making 🙄

    • @PolymerClayTutor
      @PolymerClayTutor  Před 4 lety +1

      Yeah I am always surprised by how hard companies make it to buy their products. 🙄 Jungle and Periwinkle have been discontinued... another thing that drives me mad. But you can buy directly from Sculpey now at www.sculpey.com so at least you can get all their colors in one place, though I believe there may be experiencing some delays with Covid happening right now.

    Does the gold premo turn out sparkly or metallic or is it more opaque, I was only able to find 18K gold at the michaels near my house but it is very sparkly but its not part of the glitter line. I am looking for clay that is gold but not sparkly.

    thank you so much for the great info on the premo colors just one question the ones like fuschia, ultramarine,green, and purple that gets slightly darker when baked how would you go about mixing so that you dont loose the lighter color like the fuchsia love the color of it raw but not so much the color difference when baked is there a way to keep it more true to the raw color.....hope this makes sense sorry if confusing I am a very new to polmer clay

    • @PolymerClayTutor
      @PolymerClayTutor  Před 4 lety

      Those colors darken a little because they have a fair amount of translucent in them so to counteract that, you can add a touch of white. Bake up some little test samples to get the exact color you want after baking.
