I dont know if Kaa died, but as for the hypnosis showing memories its probably mostly just for cinematic reasons. If she just said what happened us viewers wouldn’t find it as engaging. Visualising the story she tells Mowgli makes it more entertaining for the audience. Then even still, (supposedly) guided hypnosis can be used to view past memories for therapies so the patient can experience and work through their trauma, or even remeber trauma the brain had hidden away.
