The Space Needle is perhaps the safest building in Seattle built of welded steel with an extremely large concrete base underground. It will sway like a pendulum but probably won't fall down, but you can kiss most of the rest of the city good by.
They forgot one critical piece on the golden gate bridge scene. The biggest earthquake the world has ever seen and yet all that water under the bridge still sits perfectly calm.
If a 10.5 were to actually happen, the rarity of it happening is so rare it's just milimeters from being impossible. No fault line is ever that long enough to create an earthquake like a 10.5. I just learned that so yea...
ii_FuRy if there was a fault line that ran from southeastern Alaska all the way down to Baja California Sur in Mexico, that would be about 3,224 miles. So a fault line that large would possible be able to produce a 10.0 earthquake.
@violinman07 Actually, LA is in Southern CA and the Cascadia subduction zone is almost at the Oregon border. Southern CA is only strike-slip and thrust faults which have never in recorded history produced anything larger than a richter-9 quake. Also, the idea that the land would "open up" like in this scene is highly unlikely as the ground is actually compressing in tectonic quakes... the movie is exciting to watch, but it plays on our general lack of knowledge of geology.
Many Monuments Come crashing down is just so sad. Just like losing the ones we humans all love with hearts. "But nothing must tear our hope apart". We must "Be Strong and Live Proud of Who We Are".
The failure modes of these structures under seismic loads are simulated incorrectly. While you may argue it's just an animation/art, but the best art presents a realistic observation of events.
I used to live in Seattle, still visit every few months. The Space Needle in the video crumbled like concrete, it's actually made of steel, not to mention there's a whole glass structure wrapped around the feet. That movie was terribly inaccurate.
This is very unrealistic because no earthquake could not down the Golden Gate Bridge nor the Space Needle unless it was a 8.3 magnitude earthquake which rarely happens.
That is before the Dwayne Johnson movie San Andreas. A new movie Seattle Earthquake might be a suggestion or not depends if you make great performance even melodramatically.
Here's another tidbit this movie missed. if there were going to be a major tectonic event from Seattle to Southern California, it would more likely be the entire West coast of the U.S. shifting northwest, not form a new island as shown at the end of this video.
Crazypug 2881 Something like this won’t happen luckily, but it’s a great and amazing landmark, seeing it destroyed is just heartbreaking, how long it has been there, it isn't San Francisco without the Golden Gate Bridge
We will not know what a mega earthquake does to a major high rise city until one happens. Yes there have been some in the 7's but there has yet to be a 9.0 (give or take a few .'s) in a high rise city like L.A., San Francisco, or Seattle. I'm near Seattle and if Cascadia goes with it's predicted 8.5-9.5 it's anyone's guess as to the damage....
Eventually, the Golden Gate Bridge will collapse because it is an old bridge and it is starting to rust. Same thing will happen to the Brooklyn bridge hence, it’s old age.
why tf is this in my recommended at 12:45 AM on a cold january night in 2021?
You've got me exactly I-
It doesn’t even relate to anything I’ve been watching. At all. Also pretty much exactly the same for me.
Is this a warning?
your coomm3nt is terrible
It's a warning... It's coming...
That song is from Harry Potter 6, dumbledores farewell
No
ik lamo
Yes it is
Yup that’s what I was searching this for cause I watched it when I was like 5 and still remember the song
at least it wasnt vancouver imagine all the impossible filming lists

And this scene in Seattle was only a 7.9, which would NOT cause that much destruction to Seattle
Kinda like the pyramid building in SF 🌹 it's built to sway and roll
That bridge will be back. It's been wrecked in disaster movies so many times before and they always rebuild it. No problem.
are you making a joke or did you actually think that they destroyed it irl
Jo P it’s a joke
jahvey's videos124 it’s CGI
They forgot one critical piece on the golden gate bridge scene. The biggest earthquake the world has ever seen and yet all that water under the bridge still sits perfectly calm.
That was a 9.2...
the earthquake in San Francisco was a 10.5
+JoMiner_ 456 No, the earthquake in San Francisco was 9.2
oh...sry it`s been a while since I last watched the movie
It wasn’t sitting perfectly calm lmao
R. I. P. Golden Gate Bridge my mom's best bridge

ThePixelatedFo_X . San Andreas can produce 9.0 quake and faults in Chile can create 9.5 so it's close but no 10.5 golden gate can withstand up to 7.9
ii_FuRy if there was a fault line that ran from southeastern Alaska all the way down to Baja California Sur in Mexico, that would be about 3,224 miles. So a fault line that large would possible be able to produce a 10.0 earthquake.
Rarity?
Soviet Ball Golden Gate can withstand a 8.3 with little damage
Soviet Ball and San Andreas can produce a 8.3 not a 9.0

That Space Needle is a solid steel structure if you've ever been there. I t couldn't crumble like that. But still a good animation of it doing so.

There was floating cars in one point
@ScariestTop5 lol how, your responding to :/
@John Mazz Please learn more physics. The floting cars scene, that the bridge was down by gravity.

This was from the movie 10.5. The plot was that a hidden fault line was discovered allong the west coast.
The failure modes of these structures under seismic loads are simulated incorrectly. While you may argue it's just an animation/art, but the best art presents a realistic observation of events.
Movies aren’t made to be true.
Was the San Andreas Fault shifting again?
I know I’m 8 years late, but no, this was from a undiscovered fault on the coast of California from the movie 10.5
that is so emotional and scary i feel bad for people who lost there loved ones i hope it will all stop soon all the storms
It’s not real.

Why u gotta do the space needle like that
In the Serria Nevadas I’d have the best ocean view, although the cliffs will be 4,000ft high.
?
Well, for starters, the supports of the Space Needle are steel, not concrete, but it's still a cool video.
