The most accurate part of this whole thing is that skipping the cutscene just brought you to another cutscene.

This video is a meme, but this entire “never skip the cutscene again” is really what got me into large and long stories in gaming, specifically with this game. One mission called “where do the bees sleep” you do a pretty regular mission and near the end there’s a cutscene that triggers, and when I was younger I didn’t really care about the story, but when I skipped it I was face to face with a giant metal gear (sahalanthropus) standing over me. That was an experience I had had in no other game, and it invested me so much that I watched my brothers play through of the game up to where I was so I could see the cutscenes in full, and I listened to the cassette tapes and so on. And now, I love playing games with really long stories and I have come to really appreciate games with grand stories to them (not that before MGS5 I didn’t like games with stories, I definitely did, but 5 REALLY got me into the concept and I’ve been a major fan ever since)
Edit: I’m playing through MGS5 again, and the level wasn’t “where do the bees sleep”, that IS where sahalanthropus first appears but I skipped that cutscene and didn’t see it, the one where I saw the metal gear was the one where you go and get Huey
I used to be like that when I played Fire Emblem (gba), I was tired reading every dialogue so I continuously spamming A's straight even what to do in the game. What matters to me is that I finished the game without actually doing anything smart.
When I realized researching walk-throughs about this and that, that's when I realised I f'ed up a lot. Missing a lot of characters (well not everyone, but pretty much important in-game especially in stories) and plots.
Now I learned that I got to be more wary about it..
Well, if you like games with long stories I can recommend Red Dead Redemption 2 or Far Cry (doesn't matter which)
@@patrikmatousek5450 I played Red dead 2 last year, absolutely loved it. Great game, remarkable story that I loved completely. If not for MGSV I don’t know if I would have ever really cared to play this game, but I’m so glad I have.
As for Far Cry, I’ve never played it but I used to watch a LOT of videos on its gameplay, and it always looked super fun. I know nothing about the story, and since I know the gameplay is fun, that’s a series I’d absolutely love to tackle someday!

As a kid I deadass skipped every single cutscene mainly because I want to play the game and I'd justify it with "well I'll replay them years later anyway".
Now thanks to that almost all my childhood games offer me a somewhat completely new experience on the narrative side on top of being generally better at the gameplay side.
My (very horrible) understanding of the stories by skipping every cotscene as a kid also made replaying them properly an absolute acid trip.
I will never understand people who skip cutscenes.

The cardinal sin of the metal gear games is skipping a cutscene.
Maybe Kojima shouldn’t fill about half the runtime with them…
nah bro the cardinal sin is trying to follow the convoluted mess of a story. Skipping the cutscenes is the way to play
Well the metal gear series is essentially a cinematic game series by the end and while that’s not for everyone, I’d rather have that than whatever garbage that cod has been pumping out. The series is far from perfect but it’s a unique experience and I respect the risks and bold decisions it took
@@oliverjenner9251 There are plenty of other options besides COD!
Why are some game devs incapable of telling a story without cutscenes? Did these people actually want to make movies but accidentally applied to game studios?
In the first Devil May Cry there is the best moment ever. Before fighting Mundus, you are entering an angelic looking hall with a big statue placed in front of the door. When you get closer to it, the cutscene starts. That statue begins the conversation with Dante, but as soon as you skip it, you and a huge muscular bearded guy are literally floating in the space.
