  • Hygge!
    Join us this week as we continue to explore the amazing city of Copenhagen. We repeatedly found ourselves saying “this is amazing”. We had incredibly high hopes for Copenhagen, and our expectations were exceeded every moment.
    In this week, we journey to Nyhavn, a waterfront, canal, and entertainment district in Copenhagen. Since we’re riding around by bike, we make a few stops that we found to be phenomenal.
    We start off by visiting the Church of our Saviour, which has the largest carillon in Northern Europe. We make the steep climb all the way to the top of the spire by navigating up the winding spiral staircases. The view at the top was marvelous.
    Next, we walk over to Freetown Christiania, an intentional community and commune. This was quite the experience on its own, but certainly a must visit!
    After checking out Christiania, we head over to Nyhavn to enjoy the sites, sounds, eats, and drinks. THIS is Copenhagen. When you think about visiting Copenhagen, this is at the top of EVERY list - With good reason!
    Lastly, we walk through Nyhavn to take Alicia to Aldi for a picture for her FaceBook Group.
    Another absolutely incredible experience in the fascinatingly beautiful, Copenhagen Denmark!
    If you haven’t seen them, we invite you to check out our other Copenhagen Vlogs. We made a playlist to make it easy to find!
    New places, new foods, new episodes. This trip started a major fascination with Scandinavia, Viking Culture, and history. More to come… Stay tuned for this awesome series! 23:57 That white building in the background with the three Danish flags, is the hotel where all the superstars stay, when in Copenhagen.
    It's called Hotel d’Angleterre.

      @@TravelNoJitters Yes, mine to. I have travelled the world extensively both private and on business but Denmark just are so safe and open, relaxed yet efficient. Quality over quantity-ish. Are you aware that you can take the Metro from the airport to city center? Costs less than the starting fee when you enter a taxi, takes less than 15 minutes which is faster than taking a car. I can recommend using 1 day simply exploring by taking the Metro´s newly opened city-ring 1 stop at a time and take a short exploring stroll at each stop. If anything "larger" catches your attention just put it on the bucket list for the next days. The driverless Metro trains in the city ring departs every 3 minutes (!) so waiting for the Metro wont be an issue. I saw you noticed the mega windmill string in the horizon when you were at the top of the church. Next time you approach CPH Airport for landing you can see a whole off shore windmill park, if weather and landing path (approach from water side) allows. Just a few weeks before you arrived Denmark in cooperation with Belgium/Netherlands/Germany agreed to "speed build" the worlds largest fossil fuel to green energy transition deal in the world. 230 million high energy using Europeans are to get their electricity needs covered by a string of off shore mega windmill parks in the North Sea connected via artificial energy islands where some of the power, on top of energy to the 230 million, will be made into Hydrogen or other "power to x" green fuels. I tried to see what US media reported about it but did not see any even mention it. Both the electricity project and the hydrogen production project in themselves represent the worlds largest energy transition agreements the world yet have seen. IF US simply made a copy/paste of this project in their own waters it would be able to cover over half of US entire energy need when it comes to electricity. The newly built Metro (they continue to expand) are part of Denmark´s aim to become carbon neutral long before the demands in the Paris Climate accord. Windmills make CO2 free electricity, hydrogen are used as buffer when wind does not blow or stored for winter, and the truth are that the future car will run on hydrogen rather than being electric. Last tip. Not only are the water and air in Copenhagen clean but remember that the drinking water quality in Copenhagen and all of Denmark are clean and tasty so simply filling a bottle with tap water will save you money and provide you with fresher water than the one you buy.
      I saw you just went to Iceland. Pretty incredible to think that 1000 years ago Danish vikings regularly travelled to Iceland, Faroe islands, Greenland, UK, rest of Scandinavia and even reached today´s USA. This are getting to long LOL.
      Will look forward to see what you do next time in Denmark!

      How amazing ! Thank you for all of that useful information. Will make note of it for next time, especially because it seems so efficient.
      Yes, I don’t think I saw much coverage from the US news, but I did see something about it in an international newspaper that I subscribe too.
      Iceland was also incredible! So much to see. And… history. Loved it! I think Norway is going to be pretty high on the list for some more Nordic adventures. Our travels are quite sporadic though, so we’ll see when and where.
      It’s so crazy to think about how the Vikings explored and truly expanded their reach, understanding, and culture so far away. I’m truly amazed and fascinated by all of it.
      Again, thank you so much for all the information. We’ve got some great countries lined up and we’ll be sticking to our weekly uploads through all of it!

    [ 28:54 ] - That is the cleanup crew that comes with all the hotdog carts or "pølsevogn" (pølse=sausage vogn=wagon/vehicle). So you don't have to worry about being messy and drop food

    Nyhavn is not just for tourists, it has been a cozy place for many Danes and still is, but you are right, more and more foreign tourists are coming. Before, it was more danish "tourists" from other place's than Copenhagen. 🙂

      Nothing better than a cozy cold Beer in Nyhavn on a hot summerday when in Copenhagen. I am Danish and love getting down there the few times a year I come to the area :) But there is SO MUCH MORE to Copenhagen and the area around than this, even to rest of Denmark outside of Copenhagen. You only scratched the surface ;)

    Love Copenhagen . I’ve not been for many years, but I remember it being so expensive!! Wow the views from that church were incredible! That last bit was insane!! Nyhafn is just so insanely pretty. Great way to see the town on bikes. Oo aperol spritz, love that drink. I reckon out of season Nyhafn wouldn’t be as touristy! Thanks for showing us around. 🍻

    The sauce you guys loved was probably Remoulade, a danish twist on the Creole version. Basically a pickle-relish with turmeric and curry.
    And not to blow your mind, but that was a standard everything-hot-dog - if you ever come back, you should try the gourmet version at a higher end stand, with better quality ingredients... they are wild.

    • @TravelNoJitters
      @TravelNoJitters  Před 2 lety +1

      We most certainly will be back. I’ve made a note of this. Thanks Kristian!

      Yeah, most hotdog stands in Denmark, are the "regular"ones. They sell hotdogs made from the same 3-4 companies, like Tulip, Steff Houlberg and a few others I can't remember the name of. They are not bad, but can be bought better, at a "gourmet" hotdog stand. The easiest way to find them, is to look up reviews online.
      Whether you should buy a Cocio cacao milk with the hotdog, is a matter of taste. Most foreigners I've seen trying the combo, seems to like it.

    Im from Copenhagen, was this building and the urinal all you saw of Christiania? Cuz thats about one percent of Christiania... The rest is old buildings turned into residential, galleries, a big and a small concert hall, workshops, cafes, a very crowded outside bar with a concert scene, a lake surrounded by very creative buildings the residents builded through the years. The area that makes some people unsafe is Pusher Street. Two minutes from what you show. A small street with lots of stands where people sell hashish and weed. Controlled by gangs, other criminal types hang out there, the vibe can be rather tense, shootings happen, fights, police raid it almost daily, but in general Pusher Street is not a dangerous area, and the rest of christiania is def not dangerous. Next time you come, do the whole area. Its worth it 👌

      We spent a good couple hours roaming around, going through the shoppes and seeing some of the work. It was a really neat experience for sure. I’m certain there’s more to it than what we saw, but we saw more than what we were able to film there.

    #1 rule when eating hot dogs:
    If you’re not a mess with condiments, sticky fingers and onions everywhere after eating … you’re doing it wrong. 😉
    A French Dog is NOT a traditional danish hotdog. The condiment is “French Dog dressing”. More like the condiment you get with french fries.

    • @TravelNoJitters
      @TravelNoJitters  Před rokem

      Haha you’re right ! Messy = better lol.

      And not just any chocolate milk. It _has_ to be Cocio. (Pronounced: Kokio).
      Usually the hotdog pusher serves it cold in summer, but warm in winter. Regardless of temperature though … you’ll find theres absolutely not enough chocolate milk in the bottle. Once you start drinking … within nano seconds it’s gone. 😉😂
