- Ridley Scott, Michelle Williams and Christopher Plummer, who received Golden Globes nominations for their work on the film, explain how the reshooting happened.
These guys are in their eighties and they're still in the game. Phenomenal.
"60s now is not the 60s of my aunt and my Mom, 60 is the new FORTY" Kim Kathrall,
" this 80s men are just in their 60s." MARIA
The great thing is that Plummer was always the best fit for the role.
I sgree
BULL!!!
Yeah, and the fact is Plummer was Scott's original choice for the role but the studio wanted a bigger name so Scott choose Spacey instead
💯
Plummer should've been hired in the first place. The makeup job on Spacey was horrible.
Brooklyn Babe exactly. When you look at the makeup Spacey is wearing and the natural face of Plummer it is obvious.
Multiscan 0001 a
Brooklyn Babe , I couldn't agree more. I can't believe that scary make up job got approved . He looked completely deformed.
Brooklyn Babe, you’re full of Shit..yes, Spacey is a complete piece of trash, but he’s is by far one of the best actors alive today, & I guarantee you his performance in this movie was/is outstanding
Fulfilled Rouge Calm down. Im also a Spacey fan. But the makeup job done to make him look like an octogenarian was horrible. Plummer is an actual octagenarian & he was Ridley Scott's first choice to play the part.
Plummer's so right. Why didn't they cast him in the first place? He fits this role soooo much better than Spacey. His age, looks, posture, shape and the "cold" way he acts. You look at him and you see Getty. Spacey wasn't even similar to him in any way from what we've seen in the trailer and the old make up looked ridiculous. Plummer is the perfect choice for this role no matter the Spacey scandal.
Googaify I agree
I never watch the program but I take you guy's word for it.
Looks like the accusations against spacy was a blessing in disguise for plummer
In Europe, we don't believe like Mr Spacey be accused of sexual assault from men who are homosexual and 30 years after accuse him .It's a joke ...see reality life: what a 14 y/o boy make in the flat of 28 y/o man ??? Wake up !!! What make minor boys in LA during the night with old men?
And this waiter in Nantucket who speak during hours with Mr Spacey and accuse him from sexual assault??? I'm gay and when I was young if a rich man try to seduce me in Paris , if I'm not interested I quit the place that's all.
I believe that all young men are not honest !!! Only interested by money it's ashamed.
I pray you are not basing Stacey's acting on some trailers... and Lord forbid, "his makeup?" I "watched" the series. Spacey was "excellent" in every aspect. He was excrptional in that role and the series.
Man, I miss Christopher Plummer so much, R.I.P.
ridley looks amazing for 80
Christopher Plummer is a fantastic actor and he was Scott's original choice after all. I hope he gets an Oscar for this.
Life has a funny way of working out.
I hope he gets another Oscar.
I dont think so
A little over the top. If you know his work....he has been playing the same asshole in every role....his entire life. There is absolutely no doubt that he is a jerk in real life....but successful because the world loves for a movie to take down an asshole.
He got the nod, but Sam was more deserving of the Oscar.
Well he does look ridiculous in that makeup.
Agreed. 👍
Off topic. RIP Tony Scott. Miss his movies so much!((
yeh man. legend as well.
Christopher Plummer is a pro, class act and underutilized.
80 year old white guy? What’s Scott’s race go to do with it?
yeh, her marbles left her, at that point
She seems to dislike white men in general. Like most left-leaning entertainers.
Christopher Plummer has had such a wonderful career. I hope he never goes away..
😬
Thank God they removed Spacey, because that makeup look so obvious.
RK it took ages and i had no one to touch up
I agree. Christopher Plummer looks more like the REAL John Paul Getty than Kevin Spacey anyways.
Wow, I can't believe that Ridley was 80 in this interview. Personally, I think he looked great.
i do get the scent of a witch hunt here!!!
Mr Plummer should have been casted in the first hand. He has such a g8 sense of humor. His personality suits the character Getty more .
I didn't know Scott was 80. He's still working it. Pretty good film.
Why did Michelle feel she had to bring up that Scott is a white man? I felt that a bit weird
glendagetagripfull - She's a loon.
Feminazi?
It is fashionable today to brand the white man as a guilty person. It is not important to prove he is guilty of anything; it is enough to suggest it.
And of course, Ridley Scott is bearded. Just so you know.
Two words: political correctness. It's a disease most Hollywood actors have.
She's a pretentious a-hole. Only reason she is still relevant is because of her association to the late Ledger. She thinks way more of herself than most people bother to do.
ridley is 80!
Amazing, huh?
"80 year old white guy"
ThreeSixZeroNineG The BEST.
Ridley Scott is a fucking genius at 80 he's so prolific and the things he's doing are insane nothing but respect for one of the greatest ever .
We had very little interaction. Awkward pause. Love how they put a lighthearted spin on things despite knowing Spacey was a creep
Kevin Spacey would have been awesome for that role. Unfortunate
Oops. You must've skipped past scenes with him in makeup.
Serendipity. Plummer does not need a face full of plastic to act the part. He is fantastic in the role.
I actually think Plummer is a way better choice. He fits the role perfectly. Spacey looks nothing like Getty even with tones of ridiculous make up, nor does he behave like Getty at all from what we've seen in the trailer. Plummer's a perfect choice - both his looks and acting for this role
They have been using makeup since the very first movie was made. If Kevin’s makeup was so awful, then who’s fault was that??!! Kevin Spacey is a great actor.
I agree, but it is not often that someone who is very good is replaced by the Best!
You could make another good movie out of all this. Director hires famous actor to play famous rich man. After seeing rushes of the actor in his make up he realizes he has made a horrible mistake and could be laughed out of the industry. Because of the contract he know he is stuck with the actor. Desperate, he decides to cook up a scandal of sexual abuse about the actor giving him the excuse to replace him.|
Would make a great movie full of intrigue.
Try as they may, "NOONE WILL EVER REPLACE Kevin Spacey's" acting in House of Cards.
I don’t think he was acting much there
@@phototristan Gotta point their. His roles always fit so natural of him.
So there’s a full length edited completed version of the movie with spacey in it? Will it ever come out? Maybe in 30 years ? As an extra Blu-ray ?
crazedmartinez Was wondering the same. They could make a big amount of money by releasing both versions. Bad publicity is still good publicity
That's a great idea!!
His actions have changed my view on him as an actor. I see villain instead of talent. It's hard to respect his body of work when your realize he's a power grabbing individual who used his fame for inexcusable behavior. You did this to yourself Spacey.
Diane Fitzpatrick help me understand why his actions have changed your views on him as an ACTOR. I see a lot of illogical comments here and this certainly is one of them imo. I don’t see it being hard to respect his body of work at all and in fact my respect for his career has not changed at all. As a person it has, but I never have understood the connection between their personal actions and their work. Two different things. People who say they won’t ever watch a movie with Kevin spacey in it I think are quite stupid and make no sense at all. He is still an amazing actor, but a horrible person.
Actors are meant to be in the business of suspending people's disbelief, making people believe they're anyone. You can't do that if everyone knows you grab teenage guys' asses. That was the reason Alec Guinness always gave for avoiding questions about his personal life, that he didn't want people thinking about that when he was acting.
Dr Parnassus So what you’re saying is just because he allegedly groped a teenager, that now means no one can believe that he is playing a character? I actually agree with you there, I can see that’s how a lot of people react but I just cannot justify myself not being able to watch him anymore because of that. It just seems silly to me. Spacey could’ve killed 5 children at a kindergarten for all I care and I still would be looking forward to his next film, not bringing any of his personal actions into it. Everyone’s different in how they perceive things, but what I do stand by is calling out the bullshit and nonsense when people say ‘he was a great actor, not anymore’ which I unfortunately see a lot of. He was a great actor and still is. Personal life actions don’t discredit amazing talent and skill.
I see what you're saying, and that this doesn't make him a less good actor. It's just hard to enjoy the guy's acting when he seems so sinister. I saw one of Klaus Kinski's movies recently (in the '90s I used to be a big fan of his films with Werner Herzog), and I found it hard to watch because of everything I know about Kinski (who was a really terrible guy). I'm being a wiseass now, but Spacey made a similar point himself when he was deflecting questions about his life: "the less you know about me, the easier it is to convince you that I am that character on screen. It allows an audience to come into a movie theatre and believe I am that person". (I took that from his IMDb.com page.) I shouldn't really have butted in because you were asking someone else a question. Thanks for replying anyway.
Diane Fitzpatrick kinda fitting really
He does make for a good villain.
I'm sure both versions will be released at some point in the future and we'll get a chance to see both performances.
kevin spacy was not the only one
Sound. No picture.
I think the bigger discussion is warranted about Spacey and prior allegations.
I wonder how many times in Hollywood something like this has happened. I don't mean having to replace an actor because of legal troubles, but finishing production because something terrible happened. The closest thing I can think of is the imaginarium of Dr parnassus where jude law, Colin ferrell, and Johnny Depp came into finish what was left in the wake of heath Ledger's death. Ironically I think plummer was in that too.
I think it’s more coincidental. But yes, that is peculiar
1:17 she touched her face while answering. That is a given indicator that she is being deceptive in her answer.
Whoever invented that lame theory was touching their face the first time they said it.
hypocrite lying bitch
YESSSS so much decite, She sickened herself, Spitting her worlds out after that, like the lie left a bad taste inn her mouth!
Just think if the first guy who came out would've waited 6 more months, we would've gotten to see how House of Cards ends.
Stryker XL Love Dave Chappelle
...as if Hollywood really cares for “victims”.
Yea, Dave Chappelle to be exact, the first comment under mine mentioned it.
Stryker XL right? After all didn’t he already wait 30 some years?
Movie Vet excuse me? A comedian sez it so now it’s his! What happens if he sez happy birthday while on stage?
I love Ridley Scott. He's a genius.
AntonioKowatsch I like his accent
The story behind the story is also fascinating 😅
My All-time #1 Director----------and one of the very finest actors of all-time-------Class acts, both. our world misses Christopher Plummer , & will miss Sir Ridley, when his time comes. -I however, will not be missed ----------well, all that much. -------------------mJL, 76 /o
Scratching her face while giving her answer...hrmmm...
I hate what Kevin has done. But I wouldve wanted to see him in this role
alex vm i'm sure "the Kevin Spacey cut" will get a special blu-ray release in about 15 years.
Plummer is a good choice replacement
"I we had very little interaction" this is a distancing phrase . Why would she put distance between herself and Kevin?. 1:10
Plummer? Even better!
Was going to watch in theatre but when I heard the news I downloaded the Kevin Spacey version from torrent!
Ridley knew that Kevin had a reputation! Why have Kevin play the part in the first place? When it becomes public, Ridley changes everything. He laughs when he said he made the wrong choice. Ridley you’ve lost my respect.
Kevin is a great actor. I wonder where we will have to go to watch him. IFC?
It isn't only that Kevin Spacey was sexually abusing people, he's a really horrible person. My Mother works in high class Hotels in Sydney Australia. When Kevin came here, he was so rude to her and the staff. Worse though, he treated the cast of the movies he was on like shit. Everybody thought he was a really, nasty horrible person. You can't change that overnight when you've been like that forever overnight.
+hita ya No. He spoke rudely to them and ordered them around. He wouldn't look at them and was horrible to his fellow cast members. I'm just saying what my Mum said about him before this all happened because I had a crush on him. She is very good at her job and respected. It's part of her job to serve people at these Hotels, he was rude. Make excuses for his behaviour when you're not there if it makes you feel better, whatever.
Of course she's lying...
that girl in the movie said he hardly interacted with her.
Sad!
If I were a Movie Star I would interact with the other actors no matter how trivial their roles. Give them memories to carry them through. How selfish. My mom was in Panic in needle park with Al Pacino and she told me he talked to all the people and even came over and sat down with my mother and joined her for lunch
She never forgot it her whole life and her face would light up every time it came up!
I love Christopher’s chuckle at “I chose the wrong man”
I originally wasn't going to see the film now I'm considering it. So there's the silver lining
I wonder how the film would have done if they would have just released it as scheduled. I don't think the scandal would have made any difference. I hope they eventually release the two films together on one DVD. What a great tool for young acting students that would be.
I should have known they would come after Kevin Spacey
..And a grope grope here, and a grope grope there, here a grope, there a grope, everywhere a grope grope..
😂😂😂 Nooooo
Old spacey had a bang, eeah eeah oohhh!!!
ik b25 😃
Christopher Plummer in my opinion far fit the role than Kevin Spacey
Kevin Spacey didn’t know how lucky he was to avoid this movie. At 14 years old he now decided to go out and yell murder.
Surprised to find Ridley Scott acting as judge and jury before Spacey has even gone into a courtroom
Oh! Now I understand.
House of cards without frank underwood won't be the same y did this hv to happen 😭
tawonga munyanduri Robin Wright is the lead now
Regardless of what's going on with Kevin Spacey I still think he's a good actor
tawonga munyanduri but wouldn’t it awkward watching him knowing kuti anoita stuff like that?
@@kinglissa2953 i wont watch anything of hin anymore. I know people Like Him. Yes His work has nothing to do with IT. So If somebody Watches still okay but i couldnt.
Did that guy really just say he knew about Spacey but that he was an ARTIST so it was okay?????????
LMAO I actually got a mucinex ad with tj Miller in it
Kevin Spacy forever !! whoever is free from sin to cast the first stone.
Screened the movie today. Excellent.
damn..... I liked him as an actor😞
I wonder how much the movie changed with the recast, i love Plummer, Spacey was an outstanding actor as well... what a weird situation...
But why they ignored my boy Marky Mark?
Alvaro Delgado exactly when are they going to castrate Mark Wahlberg for what he did
Mark donated 1.5 million so I’m pretty sure it’s all good for him. It’s the William Morris agency that is the problem for the negotiations.
Virtuitous Vampire Exactly.
They shouldn't make it a gender issue, it's an agency issue and a lack of communication.
I'm sure that if they would've told Mark that Michelle was gonna be paid this much and this is why that he would've obliged.
Mark Isn't an asshole.
Alvaro Delgado actually I have a friend who was an extra on four brothers and a number of other films. He told me mark is definitely an asshole in real life. But I would give him the benefit of the doubt on this one.
Perhaps because an actor who committed hate crimes - the beating of 2 Asian men while screaming obscenities and racial slurs at them, and screaming slurs at and threatening a young black girl - doesn't deserve screen time to talk about social justice. Look it up. Mark IS an asshole.
I think Kevin spacey will be in some Polanski movies
Yeah, less than five years. He'll be back. Most Hollywood men
Are guilty of some sort of abusive .
Matthew B these same actors/actresses that are so offended by people like Spacey were giving awards & applauding Polanski not too long ago, & knew full well what he did. Hypocrites
I hope this movie does well. Thank you to all the players in the movie for making this work without Kevin Spacey. You people are HEROs inour world to keep everyone employed and the movie made.
KEVIN SPACEY IS A ZERO in our world.
was going to watch this but wont anymore - not like they'll miss one viewer anyway
Good LUCK RIDLEY YOUR A DOUBLE CROSSER AND KEVIN SPACEY WAS TO OF ARTISTIC GENIUS FOR YOU
As of this writing, allegations against Kevin Spacey have been thrown out by the court. My first view of Spacey's work was as Lex Luthor in Superman Returns. He was quite menacing. Very convincing. Evil incarnate. An awesome Lex Luthor. As for who he is in real life, I've no idea. As an actor he's very top-tier.
With the topic film here already having been shot in its entirety, in other words finished, the knee jerk reaction to all of this was way past extreme. If the film could not have been shelved indefinitely for monetary reasons, then it could've been released with some stipulations. Remove Kevin Spacey's name from the opening credits of the movie, from the closing credits of the movie, and from the Marquee. He could've then been forbidden to discuss the film in any way shape or form on any radio or television talk show. That would nip it in the bud wouldn't it.
BUT, oh no, let's shoot all of Kevin's scenes over again, using another actor! They had this man hung, drawn and quartered, before he even saw the inside of a courtroom! Not acceptable and quite rightly, inexcusable.
My view on this is that some person or persons owe Kevin Spacey a public apology and I would dare say somebody owes him some serious money for the movie debacle. I think Hollywood went to lunch. Never came back. Do you see how easy it is to destroy someone's life by just opening your mouth and pointing your finger. And how easily it could be pointed at you. A lot of bottom feeders out there, and a lot of barbs flying around.
You say that Kevin Spacey was punished before he ever saw the inside of a courtroom. From the perspective of this movie's production, that is not simply true. In a creative decision, his role was recast. The production did not imprison him, the production did not fine him, the production did not even claw back the money that he was paid. For this movie, Spacey worked and was paid for his work. There was no extra-judicial punishment.
As for your solution of simply have his name removed from the movie's credits but retaining his performance, that would have violated a long standing rule in the agreement between the studios and the SAG that actors are credited for their on-screen work.
Does Spacey have some grounds for legal action against his accusers? Perhaps. But was he "punished" by this movie's production. Clearly not.
Was that a little 'tell', Michelle? (*👃)
I want to see the film with Kevin as the lead role too, to see what it would have been like.
michelle williams is just an amazing actress!!!
Damn, thats crazy that they refilmed all his parts...i would have saw it anyway!
I believe you are mistaken about Sony financing the reshoots. Scott is on the record saying his production company financed the reshoots
omg most girls/woman experience this stuff all the time, this is insane
Even more insane is that still Fans of Kevin insulting the victims. This is really bizarre. And i dont Care the gender.
Got 80% in RT. The Grind payed off in a way
Kevin Spacey was 26 in the 80s.
Michelle Williams is close to Weinstein
Love christopher plummer
Deep respect for Michelle Williams.
COULD CHRISTOPHER PLUMMER PLAY “ HOT AND VULNERABLE “I THINK NOT ONLY KEVIN SPACEY COULD AND HE DID A FANTASTIC JOB 🏴💯❤️🔥🎭
I believe he is one of the best.....the guy that accused him waited 30 years to make it public......please.....
The guy accusing him is gay. Maybe Kevin refused to have sex or anything with him or something, maybe he is secretly in love with Kevin.......
they all already knew and they were happy to hire first time around it was only when it all blew up then they dropped him.....
Michelle Williams seems to think very highly of herself.
Luckily in the film industry, more money spent means more money to have. So now is everybody happy, the director got the actor he wanted and everyone else got theirs too.
Williams statements brilliant
What a lot of garbage always looking for their monitory or their 15MINS OF FAME THIS MAN IS A WONDERFUL MAN A PURE GENIUS KEVIN SPACEY AND AN OUTSTANDING ACTOR AND ALL ROUND TALENTED SERIOUS TALENT WE AS CONSUMERS THAT PAY TO SEE THESE GENIUS KEVIN SPACEY WE SUFFER THIS MAN IS TOOOOO MAGNIFICENT I ALWAYS WATCH HIM AS MY FRIENDS DO HET THIS NEANDERTHAL THAT ACCUSED KEVIN LOVK HIM UP AND THROW AWAY THE KEY 🔑 LOVE ❤️ KEVIN SPACEY AND HIS TALENT
Christopher Plummer should play the billionaire if the make the movie The Ice Limit. He would be absolutely perfect.
What is a 14 year old boy doing at an adult party?!!! Where was his parents and why are they not all over the news for Allowing their child to be at the adult party?!!
God damn Ridley Scott I thought he was dead
It’s the Studio who’s at fault. Scott originally wanted Plummer, however, the Studio wanted Spacey.
GREAT FLICK RIDLEY!!!
Christhopher Plummer was just perfection! Just push Spacey off the cliff, not a loss.
Cool it’s iron Woods from advanced warfare
It makes me so sad.
They should give a chance cs
I don't get that bit about scott being an '80 year old white guy' who (oh shocking!) wants to tell a story from the perspective of a woman! I mean, the frankly rather offensive stereotype of eldely white men notwithstanding, has she even seen 'Alien'..? And before someone tries to throw it in my face: no, i'm not white!
Nolan Olivier she's just a textbook example of a dimwitted Hollywood actress
yeh, I didn't understand what she's talking about, with that. Maybe dropping the mask .. that fame and fortune had made her overthink too much
Badasses in their 80s
Scott comes off arrogant expecting a guy he fires to call him.
M W is a super woman....I adored her!!
Enjoyed the movie. Just saw it.
And Matt Lauer comes on after the trailer, shilling for ABC...
