tod browning's sideshow shocker - Zábava
The Flesh and the Fiends was a first time watch for me this October! I expected a bit of Hammer-esque appeal and I was actually pretty shocked by the level of dark and lurid themes for a 1960 picture. Cushing's performance is great and I had never seen a Donald Pleasance performance that was so unhinged and despicable.
Edit: I ordered my Tod Browning set directly from Criterion and I had the same problem with a popping loose disc. I thought I was going to have a heart attack 😂
Man, that sounds so awesome.
The Flesh and the Fiends is good, based on Burke and Hare. Added treat: a young Billie Whitelaw, who played the guardian in The Omen.
Nice!
Wings of Desire is wonderful--not like City of Angels at all. I'm confident you'll appreciate it! My favorite Wenders film, though, is Paris Texas.
Wonderful! Looking forward to it, then.
You’ve got me on a Film Noir kick. Just watched Mystery Street from 1950 starring Ricardo Montalban that was a really good one. I am also rewatching my Sherlock Holmes Basil Rathbone collection too although mine is just the DVD one.
Cool, I’ll look that one up!
I recently took a chance on a movie from Redemption called The Comeback (1978). It's a weird horror movie about a washed up singer. I don't want to say more than that but I was pleasantly surprised by how entertaining this movie was. I got it pretty cheap from Kino Lorber. Not sure if they have any copies left but I recommend checking it out if you're in the mood for something a little different
Interesting! I’ll look it up.
A+ video!
Awesome haul and presentation!
Thanks man!
WIthout a doubt, Wings of Desire is a great movie. Even if you don't do "arty" too much, this is just a wonderful film.
Good to hear!
Yes, it’s completely different from the remake. I love it.
Gosford park is brilliant, written by the writer of Downtown Abbey, America is so far ahead of the UK for releases, I love seeing Kino Lorber releases but as I live in Northern Ireland i've no chance of getting them as I got in touch with them and they don't post to the UK. There's nothing better than sitting back and losing yourself in a great movie.
That’s a bummer you can’t get Kino!
@@cobwebschannel Cereal at midnight always shows his Kino Lorber releases and I just see so many I want and wish I had relatives in America, I know my mums uncle emigrated there at the turn of the last century and disappeared, so I might have a few scattered around the US somewhere, I live in hope, you never know.
Amazon uk sells KL and HMV
Wim is great, his best movie is Paris, Texas
Great pickups, bucko! 😈
Thanks dude!
x I have heard that Beauty and The Beast version is fantastic, my favorite Disney animated film is Beauty and the Beast.
x Gosford Park is an awesome murder mystery!
x In A Lonely Place is a great noir!
x Awesome films!
x I watched When a Strangers Calls, there is a lot I could say about that film!
x I was just talking about Freaks the other day after watching the video about Gibsonton, Florida on Weird History.
Beauty and the Beast is my favorite Disney animation too!
I hope you enjoy Wings of Desire, it's a great film. Looking forward to your review. Enjoy.
Awesome, thank you!
A few sales ago, I went up to my local B&N and was solely disappointed. They had hardly any discs, at all. All subsequent orders have been online.
Aw, that’s a bummer. A buddy of mine lives 3 hours from me and his B&N has zero criterions.
Nice haul, Daniel. I think that's pronounced as asphyx (ace fix). Not a bad film. Good to have in the collection. Looking forward to your classic Christmas movies video.
Ah, thanks for the help!
You did very well!🎬☕️
Thank you!
Except when he passed on Vampire’s Kiss 😊
Well done, new subscriber.
Much appreciated!
What is the French word for noir? I always forget 🤣 ... anyway, I spotted Elevator to the Gallows on the shelf there at Vintage Stock ... if you've never seen it, give it a try since it's Noirvember and many consider it a "French noir"
Oh yeah, I need to see that!!
I’m not gonna take part in this sale because I don’t really have the funds right now, but I went crazy during the summer sale criterion did.
Picked up:
Targets
The Kid
Modern Times
Monsieur Verdoux
The Great Dictator
Arsenic and Old Lace
I Married a Witch
Pan’s Labyrinth
Cronos
The Devil’s Backbone
The Lure
The Cremator
WOW, what a haul!! I only got 3 in the summer sale. haha
@@cobwebschannel Yea I went a little overboard lol, but I’m kinda playing catch-up with criterion. I didn’t have a lot of criterion titles in my collection for years
German W is pronounced like English V. “Vim Venders”.
Oh yeah! Thanks for the reminder so I don’t make that mistake again.
I'd love to hit up a Vintage Stock! I don't think there's one near me.
Yeah I don’t know how widespread they are, but there’s a lot near me.
@@cobwebschannel We have 2nd & Charles stores near us. They're comparable to what you've shown us of Vintage Stock.
@@daltonbelflower7331Oh yeah, I’ve heard about them! I don’t have any of those.
Based on what I’ve seen in your other videos, I think you’ll enjoy The Asphyx. Not that it matters, but it’s pronounced “Assphyx” like “ass” - can we use that word on CZcams?😂
haha Thank you!
Rad!
Heck yeah, thanks man!
