Very hard to follow the rules without any cows

I play cool cow decks. That means I usually win against crazy cow fever decks, but am really weak to any cheese or mooing infinite decks.
How am I meant to know what is going on when there is no cheese tasting phase? I NEED TO TASTE THE CHEESE!

And you can see; he's struggling. Which is a good arch for his character.
So realistic. Of course Prozd would play a card game after getting forcibly transported to another dimension without complaining.
He was going easy on them by not using his black brie deck

The way you say "EEEXXXCEPT the first player skips the step, sorry" is basically just "THE FIRST PLAYER CAN'T CRY DURING THE CRY STEP!"

I missed Overboard so much!!! Glad this sponcon was able to give it some life again. Injecting the classic Polygon Video Team brand of improvisational, be-costumed RP-ass whimsy into something this crunchy and mechanics-laden was definitely the best chance of fighting the uphill battle to keep it engaging to folks who were coming in blind. Fingers crossed that next time y'all can take another turn at the sillier and more accessible side of things! (though I'm sure there's an audience for this style of game too lol) and great to see Sungwon in the mix again as well :)
Those outfits are ON POINT!! Love the accessorizing and color schemes, y'all look gorg. And it adds so much to the characters, I really appreciate good costume design :)
I'm so impressed with the character arcs of all three of Sungwon's opponents actually. They Learn So Much
Round 1 had the energy of a big brother who doesn't want to be too mean to his sister, even if he has to keep destroying her adorable penguin.

I think SungWon is possibly the ONLY person they could have invited to do this video and have it feel like, well...like a ProZD skit in a fun way and not a ProZD skit in a bad way. Like, oh yeah game, so step 1 is start? Does that need to be a distinct step? Who wrote these steps??? (But also good job explaining the rules Clayton, I almost kind of understood!)
ETA: Also the joy with which XTina says "You have activated my BURST CARD!" is very, very good.

Very cool video to see! Can't wait for BSS. I do want to point out that at 0:34 it says there are no restrictions on duplicate cards in a deck, but that's incorrect - a deck can contain up to 4 copies of any card. Minor thing but thought it would be helpful to point it out!

This was honestly so fun and a great intro to a game I had never heard of before! The Polygon personas were great and of course SungWon is always amazing. :D
please never stop making Overboards! Overboard is how i first found my way to Polygon, and I love it.
Props to Clayton for the edit! I really liked the background music choices that added flair overall and to each match characters specifically. I really enjoyed the second last piece in the match with Simone (starts around 1:06:09).
I see where Sungwon got the idea for his last video.
And boy does it make the explanation at the start funny, having already seen the parody.

@@rockassassin64 Yeah, I meant that they both appeared in a Fear of Painting Video, Sungwon in the third (?), where he wasn't at all threatened by Julia, and Simone in the one after that where they tried to cheer Julia up because he was excited to be there instead of afraid

As someone who actively plays BSS online, they explained the rules well but they missed one rule in the last game. While ProZD card had purple armor, meaning it cannot be SELECTED by cards of the specified colors, the purple ability Curse doesn't select a spirit upon activation (it just says to destroy the blocked spirit, not to select a spirit who blocked and destroy it), as a result, Curse pierces through Armor due to wording reasons.
The mech deck was easily the most powerful of the ones we saw. Also gosh dang ads... I'm probably gonna try this game out just because of this video lol.

I believe there was a misplay in regards to "armor" vs "curse". Curse is a non-targeted ability (does not "select") so it would still work on the spirit with armor against purple cards.
As a former player I can tell that's incorrect- armor protects from spirit effects as long as they match the specified color- unlike yugioh, battle spirits doesn't really have a distinction between targeting and non-targeting effects

Love the idea of the game! It’s adorable and plays right into my heart as a long time mtg player.
Overall an awesome video! I know it's an early gameplay but there are still some missplay worth mentioning based on my understanding of the Japanese BS:
23:15 cores from destroyed spirits should be moved to reserve instead of the trash
55:09 Type-90 Tankmobile cannot be targeted by deadly balance because of purple armor so only buster fenrircannon can be destroyed.
58:23 we normally won't declare absolute ice shield here when there are no further attackers from your opponents. Unlike in BS, brave system is non-existent yet, so most spirits(if not all) can only do a single damage at a time. Activating absolute ice shield at a later stage can very likely last you for an extra turn.
And it’s really unfortunate for players in HK where we don’t get the chance to play the western release of the game and it’s price tournament. Also, card design of BS looks visually better and arguably more signature for me than that of BSS, I don't like the decision to make it look similar to MTG. Nonetheless, hope you guys enjoy the fun from the game!

At 55:08 when Deadly Balance is played and SungWon selected his Type 90 Tankmobile that has Purple Armor, shouldn't the Tank have survived since it cant be selected as the target of Purple Magic? Or at the very least he had to select the other card to be destroyed or something?
Not sure how this game works exactly, but in a lot of card games effects that make the opponent choose specifically get arround these kinds of protections since the effect is not directly interacting with the other card but rather it just affects the player who then chooses one of their cards. Might be different for BSS though, idk 😅

I remember being an absolute fan of the anime of this game since i was a kid, especially with Shounen gekiha dan and Brave. Kinda complicated to play but i appreciate that its being well structured

holy shit, i used to play with a premade deck with my sister like 10 years ago and I haven't heard about this game since then. its so cool to see someone else play this.
I've got to level with you Polygon... I'm 3 minutes into this rules explanation and the fact that it doesn't contain any cows or mooing but DOES contain ProZD is very confusing to me...
"Maybe you should trust better people Sungwon" What? this Dragon? why he's the very best of the neighboring kingdoms and recently married a princess. Who would we trust more than this King Dragon?

I don't want to be the "um actually" guy but game 1 against XTina she should have been able to play the removal spell before blocks on the first flash window killing the rain needle and then dealing the damage, swinging for lethal after. But besides that dope video!

Rule check: I think you cannot target any Spirits during the Attack Step, just simply announce the attack and the opponent choose a refreshed Spirits to block. (Maybe wrong since I'm from Battle Spirits)

Not to be a total rules lawyer but shouldn't the tank have been destroyed by Curse? Armor only prevents it from being targeted, not affected, so leaving it on the field was a huge mistake that altered the course of the game.
the 10.000 spirit makes an additional refresh step, right? If so, why chief engineer does not get the cores back for flashy defensive purposes?
