Part of the problem with Islam in the west is the mixture of foreign cultures with the religion. Granted all the cultures have beautiful aspects but none of them are European. As a result we see a lot of reverts take up Arabic/Pakistani etc… cultures alongside Islam. What we need are real British Muslims, Islam that is rooted in British culture and western tradition. Islam is a religion for everyone, but to a lot of people it doesn’t seem that way and people think that if you were to become Muslim you also need to abandon your culture and identity. Which isn’t true and isn’t a problem other peoples suffer for example, although both Muslim Afghan Muslims and culture is very different to Turkish Muslims. Same way Muslims in indonesia are different to Muslims in Morocco. All those peoples have kept their peoples identities and are Muslim. This is what we need here in the UK and the western world.

As a born European Muslim I don't understand the question. Not only do we belong in Europe; Europe is ours as much as anyone's. Bosniaks and Albanians. The many different Muslim peoples of European Russia. To say nothing of the 800 years of Muslim Spain. (Rememeber that Columbus arrived in America only 500 years ago!) The Arabs arrived in Spain in 711 and since then, we are here. At that time large parts of Europe were still pagan.

I live in Long Island (NY, USA). I don't *FEEL like I belong here, but my parents are aging and it is my duty to care for them. I was born here (my parents are immigrants from Bihar, India), but Inshallah, I will be in a Muslim land before I die. We bosnians are indigenious, and probably one of the oldest european people of illyrian/slavic origin. Islam has been here in the Balkans atleast for 500 years. So, of course islam is a fact in Europe. When I came to Sweden as a refugee, I could get questions like “when did you come to Bosnia?”. It’s all about ignorance of arrogant westerners who are indoctrinated in the belief that they are the only europeans, and their culture is the only european one.

Its an extension of the dichotomy: Islam vs The West. Imagine stating Judaism and West have a clash of civilisation? The uproar that it is anti-Judaism (I use intentionally). However, when we look at all the opponents/antagonists to "traditional" Western nominal values it has always been Jews (from Marx, Lenin, Trotsky to latter thinkers such as Reich, Freud, Marcuses). We bosnians are indigenious, and probably one of the oldest european people of illyrian/slavic origin. Islam has been here in the Balkans atleast for 500 years. So, of course islam is a fact in Europe. When I came to Sweden as a refugee, I could get questions like “when did you come to Bosnia?”. It’s all about ignorance of arrogant westerners who are indoctrinated in the belief that they are the only europeans, and their culture is the only european one.
