Shooting and editing a split-screen cover song video is much easier when you prepare a detailed plan and follow it. Make an outline of how you want your video to look and make an outline of the instruments you will be using and where in the song. Map out the timestamps in your DAW or on paper so that you know where to insert each instrument. This will also help you match up the audio quickly.
Record video on your camera and audio in your DAW at the same time. We just played the instruments through speakers and used our camera’s built-in mic as another way to match up audio quickly. But not for the vocals!
Record the videos of each instrument in terms of how you will be cropping them.
Reference your timestamps while importing your video clips. It may be best to do one instrument at a time. Once they are all on your timeline, you’ll be able to place them in better time by using your ear or matching these waveforms. Then do the same with the rest of the instruments.
Once the videos are in time, go to a section where all of the instruments and vocals are in together. Crop them accordingly. It’s also much easier to edit the video if each instrument is recorded from start to finish instead of recording clips that you’ll have to crop and position again.
Besides the main vocal, which will stay consistent in our video, cut each clip at the point where they no longer are playing. Leaving a blank section of the screen is definitely okay.
Polish off the video with transitions, intros, title sequence and credits however you please.

I see there are several products Movavi offers. Specifically, which one do I need to buy to achieve what this gentleman is teaching?
Hi...Does Movavi Video Editor Plus 2021 support multitrack video editing like you have shown in the video?
How to do this? I want to execute my idea but I don't know how.
The tutorial begins at 4:24
thank you very much
Thanks LOL.... this is all i want...
You great
Lol thanks he talks so much🤣🤣
Best comment 👏🏽👏🏽
It's been long I' ve been looking for this. Cool video.
Finallyyyyyyyy. Been searching for it for so long😭😭❤❤
Same
Me too!!!!!🤘😭😭
Same bro
Same
Me too broo😭😭
Your voice sound so smooth and calming. Thank you for showing others how to talk and stick to the point without playing video games while talking lol
I just started to use Movavi literally 2 weeks ago, the 2020 version, and I am truly astounded that it's this powerful for such an affordable piece of software; thank you!
Thank you so much for your feedback! Our team's pretty sure the developer will be happy to hear that :)
Thank you - exactly what we were looking for! And great vibe you guys!
Just what I needed thanks! We’re all the tracks recorded separately? Using one camera
Playing the song / recorded audio out loud (except for the vocals )?
well i have a question i have lead solo in my song and its in the middle of the song and i made a marker when it starts but can't drag the clip of the solo at that time so how can i do it please do tell me
Y’all are amazing. Thank you
Hi i just wanted to ask, what was your basis for the recording? Like did you first recorded the electric guitar so that the vocals then sing with it?
Like what's the sequence of your recording?? to have a perfect timing for all videos and audios?
is it keys>eg>bass>drums>vocals? or what?
i would record the vocals at the end after all the instruments are recorded. all depends on you on how you work. if you can guide your vocals with the instrumental track, then thats your way to go. but in the other way, use the vocals as guidence for the musicians, you will need to make a beat so you can sign with something and not doing the vocals without any structure.
the perfect timing relies on the metronome. its like an external clock that will make everything sound synchronized
Thank you. And most of all, for introducing me to Jacob Collier. I feel like I've been living under a rock...just wow.
He is absolutely amazing. Ermagherd
Thanks man great video!
Wow, this is really what I've been searching for
Yesssssss you can SANG!!!!!😍
Thank you for this video. Your energy is great!
Thank you for watching! :)
Pomplamoose FTW!!
Thank you. It’s a start.
Great info. I wasn’t able to do this with Movie Maker so I’ll try the Movavi. 👍✨
@Movavi Vlog Hi, thank you for the tutorial! How do you apply the transition to each clip in the picture in picture mode? Like in this video, you have it in bottom right corner around 3:23-3:24. I can't really figure it out. Thanks!
This clip was spliced separately from the whole project. Transitions are not available for overlays so far
Appreciate the effort mate but I agree with a previous comment. The actual tutorial doesn't start till 4:54. Then you fly through the steps you need to do to bring it all together which in my particular case I need help. Just downloaded my three video clips (bass, drums and guitar which were or mimed to the finished track) and synced them in the timeline but the nuances on how to move the clips around the timeline and still keep them in time and the various split screen options still elude me to complete a fished video. You seem to have it figured out but I can't seem to follow as you move too quickly. Again I appreciate your video but a bit of constructive comments as it seems impossible to find good tutorials on how to do what you are doing but you've come the closest!
This is fantastic tech! I'm using Movavi Plus, still in it's 7-day trial, and can't resize or control the way they are cropped. Could you give me some pointers on how to do this please?
I have Movavi 2021, I have just recorded a music video, which meant I had several video track on top of each but I could not find a way of shrinking the tracks so I could see all the track at once on my screen, without having to keep scrolling up and down using the sidebar. Is there any way of reducing the size of the video track?
How to record voice, instrument and video separately and join together?
pls what camera you are using for recording ?
Wow, your voice relaxes me
Hello where can i see the grid lines or ruler in movavi?
hello, I just wanted to ask if we can use the video which has been splitter to make a slideshow?
Ohhh this is it! I found it finally! Thankiss
OMGosh, I LOVE YOUR VOICE!!!
thanks for the tip. I want to do this in my music cover videos too!
You're welcome!
Thanks so much!
hey bro, are you recording vocal with any soundcard in it ?
I really really needed it thankyou
Great information, how about a video on making our own special effects transitions and Green Screens we can use in multiple videos.
Thx i need it for my project 😌
thank you sooooo so much for sharing this tutorial.... will be doing one of this in the future. support
Hello! I'm kinda late to the party but this is exactly what I am hoping to start doing in the near future so thanks for this video.
However, I need a much better laptop and have been debating on getting a laptop or desktop but it looks like I can get away with using a laptop and I would prefer it for portability of course. I already have an idea on specs I need but can I ask what laptop(s) you would recommend today and what YOU suggest for minimum specs? And if you prefer AMD vs Intel, etc. Thanks in advance!
Your voice is calming bro
Thanks
What version of movavi video editor wre you using?
how do you get the multi screen template up and running ?
Thank u very much
You have a beautiful voice.
Very helpful, thank you sir
Awesome video! I’m having trouble putting videos together with the correct timing
Is there a way when some instruments take a break and don't play to make the others who still playing fill in the screen and then go back to their positions?
Does Movavi allow for 8 tracks? I want to do a presentation of my band (8 people)? Thanks
I like how u talk when u screen recorded your laptop
thank you
UPDATE: The menu as shown is no longer valid in Movavi Editor Plus 2020. Once you have all your video clips in their own timeline you need to right click on the clip. From the menu that opens choose TOOLS. From the sub menu that opens choose OVERLAY. From the choices that appear choose PICTURE IN PICTURE. Now you will be able to drag the edges of each clip preview and resize as well as place. Of course, in the Movavi User Manual there is now mention of either split screen or multi screen.
I WAS LOOKING FOR THIS. THANK U
Glad you like it :)
I LOVED THIS. I LITERALLY WANTED THIS
Oh, thank you!
This is cool, I get how to make the video, but what do I call this kind of video and what are some good hashtags or search terms to use? Things like "one man band" and "multi instrumentalist" seem to often be more linked to someone playing the instruments in a live looping or actually simultaneously fashion rather than overdubbed takes being assembled in post. Any thoughts?
Useful, thank you... I'll upload my multiscreen video soon
I want that software. How can i get it l? And what is it name?
What monitors are these?
This is the first time that I am watching your video, looking for "split-screen or multi-screen" videos and I am giving you thumbs up in first place because of your attitude, thanks for sharing, God Bless!
Thank you for watching! Happy to know you like the content :)
That's good ya!!
you're the man
Thank you for this video
Hello I need help. So when recording a video how do I put a moving picture replacing the persons head
Hi! Maybe, you'll find this tutorial useful: czcams.com/video/DtHhYRQUUgM/video.html
Do you know any FREE video editor on PC that can multi screen (multi videos at the same time) ? For a music project.
What camera and lens did you use to record?
Thx
Thank you so much bro
Is that a korg kross 1? I own one as well. Great content!
Just wondering if the resizing feature is only available in the full version. I'm on the trial version for 7 days but I can't seem to figure out now to resize and move them around. How do you create a background, and is it required to be able to crop and resize?
Hi! Sorry for being a bit late with the reply!
The trial version includes all the features that the full version has. The difference is, unlike the full version, it leaves a watermark on your video.
If you need to learn how to make a clip smaller to fit it into a multi-screen video or create a picture-in-picture effect, here's a simple inctruction you can use while working with Movavi Video Editor Plus 2020:
1. Put a video or an image that's supposed to be the background on the main video track.
2. Place your overlay on the additional tack.
3. Double-click the overlay clip to open up the Clip Properties menu and select the Picture in Picture option in the Overlay tab.
4. Change the size of the overlay and put it where you need it to be.
5. To crop the ovelay, you need to select it click the Crop button right above the timeline.
If you need to crop and resize the entire video, not one of your overlays, you can apply the crop option to the main video track. No background needed. Or set a desirable aspect ratio and redolution in the advanced export settings.
Nice video mate. Very helpful. Now can you do a video where you just talk for an hour please? Your voice is very relaxing to listen to 😀🙌🏻
I like your hair 👍
Thats very nice, but could you please teach us how to SPLIT IMAGE AND CHORDS only? Im not a computer guy, i want to learn how to do the image chording split video..thanks
I want to do stuff with a stylophone, tanks.
Is there any way to do this on a phone?
Wow
Good stuff! Thanks 👍. I'm finally understanding. I have a love/hate relationship. Movavi is a Foreign Language for me!
Time to explore and add some dimension to my videos. 🦋
Great information thank you
Glad it was helpful!
How do you add arrows in photo editor
thanks for this video.. i think i can start editing video... record audio first with metronome then record video accordingly.... thats is i dont think about....
Cool
Oh my gosh , your voice is sooo calming . you should consider creating an ASMR channel !
Lol yes
What apps?
Nice work 👍
Does Movavi allow you to selectively mute or solo different tracks? It seems like that would be very helpful when trying to sync up the tracks by ear.
It does :) To do this, separate parts you want to mute with the help of scissors, then right-click each of these fragments, and choose "Mute clip"
Hi Conner I’m so up for this and it’s all about to happen and you’re part of it. For that I thank you 🙏
You are so welcome
Thanks for this awesome video sir...
I wanna learn more about
1. animation effect for screen recorded videos in movavi
2. Transition effect for multi layer screen recorded videos..
Thanks again for your support
Comestibles Para Super Chinos
Please sir reply in English
Hey! Let's talk over the points in the order you asked about them
1. This function 100% available for Movavi Video Suite/ Movavi Video Editor PLUS beacause as far as we know the basic version of the video editor in Movavi Screen Recorder Studio doesn't include animation tool at all.
2. Unfortunately, transitions for overlayers haven't been added yet but you can apply transitions to clips first, export them, and then add them as overlayers
Movavi Vlog Thanks sir
cool
Which editing software are you using again? :)
I wish the finished product was like the thumbnail. That is why I clicked the video.
But how do you record and mix the multiple tracks of your vocals and instruments, tho???
Hi! The track itself was made with a special sound recording program. As we said, we recorded the sound and the video simultaneously, then we made up the audio track and imported it into our video project
Which app did u use for ur thumbnail bro.. searching from 2hrs
Hey there!! Is doing multiscreen editing available on iPads? Can you still use program this, to do multiscreens on something like an iPad, if you dont have a computer?
Well, as far as we know overlay feature (which is the base of our multiscreen video) is not available for Movavi Clips, unfortunately. So we're not sure it's possible to achieve the same effect with the app
@@MovaviWorld all good! Thanks so much for the reply! :)
Which software
Is there no longer an overlay template that automatically creates 4 even squares? Can't find any easy way of doing this - using picture in picture makes it look awful because it's hard to get everything even! Also, is there any way to "nudge" the video clips left/right - ?? It's so tedious to get it very close but then not perfect because you just want it moved a tiny bit...
Hi! Yep, the 4-screen option has been removed. And speaking of picture-in-picture... do you have guidelines on? They make the process much easier
For ipad?
What are your thoughts on recording all the audio, getting the takes you want, and then miming to get the video shots?
It's not as authentic... but that's how pro music videos are made. It depends what you're trying to achieve. I followed this vlog's advice and got the exact video I wanted.
Nice video, but I can't listen to the music played in the background at the beginning without thinking of content cop lol
Thank you so much for this video ^_^
That smirky smile is begging for an introduction to my fist. 👊😅
Is there a limit to the number of videos you can splice onto one screen? I would like to put 32 onto a screen (virtual choir-type thing). Thanks!
Hi! As far as we know there's no limit. You can layer as many clips as you want and arrage them into a multi-screen picture.
@@MovaviWorld interesting 🦋
Christopher Bill!!!
Great video!!! What version do I need to buy to do this? Editor, Editor Plus or Suite? Also does this have split screen templates, and can you make you own split screen templates?
Hi! You can achieve the same result with Movavi Video Editor Plus (which is also included in Movavi Video Suite). Speaking of split screen tamplates, there is a very limited number of them, so if you want to get something like we did you need to adjust your overlays placed over some one-colored picture background
@@MovaviWorld Are you planning on adding more templates for split screen? I just got the upgrade that includes new templates for three videos at a time. Would be awesome if there would be more available. Thanks!
does movavi pro for free have a watermark on the published completed video??
Hi! Yep, the trial version of Movavi Video Editor Plus has the watermark
