    The reason I like Yoopers, they get right to the point and make it simple! Thank you.

    great video, what size wick do you use for the hand-dipped candles?

  • @tinacynth

    I didn't know that's how one makes wax from honey combs. Truely Amazing! But will the candle burn without flickering or making those crackling sounds if it's dipped in wax and then into water? I'm new to this so would like to know a little more about it please. Thank you for the video :-)

    I really want to learn to so this. buying beeswax is expensive, did you say you are a beekeeper? Or do you know beekeepers? thank you, Patty

    • @UPMichiganBees
      @UPMichiganBees  Před 3 lety +1

      Yes Patty I am a beekeeper. You can see my website at www.upbees.weebly.com
      You can purchase wax from the major beekeeping supply companies ...like Dadant for a reasonable more price.

    Hello. Thank you for this wonderful tutorial. Can I ask how many dips were required to make the thickest dipped candle you showed? Thank you.

    • @UPMichiganBees
      @UPMichiganBees  Před 2 lety +2

      Sorry but I don't know. It depends a bit on the temp of your wax. When your wax is to cool it puts a thicker coat on, but the candle starts accumulating lumps..heat the wax back up for a smooth candle. We just did a session with the grandkids and made a lot of candles🙂.

    Thank you for this tutorial! I’m excited to make these with my kiddos tomorrow! Question though, I think I may have the wrong kind of wick. My wick is 2mm organic hemp wick. Will that work for dipped beeswax taper candles??

    • @UPMichiganBees
      @UPMichiganBees  Před rokem

      I usually use a square braid # 2/0 or 1/0 for a bit larger one.As with "all things" candle try what you have...burn one down.

    Hello. How long will your wax stay hot for dipping. Wanting to do this for my class and figuring out the set up. Thank you.

    • @UPMichiganBees
      @UPMichiganBees  Před 2 lety +1

      About 3-5 candles. When I do a group, I use a single mug electric cup heater to keep it warm enough throughout the process..you just have to add more wax as it gets used up.

    Its ok if water gets in the wax?

    • @UPMichiganBees
      @UPMichiganBees  Před 8 měsíci +1

      A small amount won't hurt anything, but you should have nearly zero if you give a. little shake to the candle after it comes out of the water.

    Great video! What were your molds made from?

    • @UPMichiganBees
      @UPMichiganBees  Před 2 lety

      I didn't use molds, just dipped the wick in the wax. The wax was contained in coconut water cans.

       @UPMichiganBees At the end of the video there were molds That you poured wax into. 4:48 in to the video. The reason I am asking is because I demo candel making at a living history farm. It looks like they are wood???

    • @UPMichiganBees
      @UPMichiganBees  Před 2 lety +2

      @@EXARCWithGrandpop Sorry for the confusion. These are silicone molds from Dadant.I have tried several different ones , but these work best. I work with a lot of wood and tried that route...didn't work.

    How long do you need to let the candles cure before burning them? What’s the optimal cure time? (if we can stand the wait haha)

    • @UPMichiganBees
      @UPMichiganBees  Před rokem

      I usually wait a day or two. Some say to put them in the freezer for 3 or 4 hours.
