Btw you done need sand for sugarcane, it can be either dirt or sand! And if you have extra gravel and not enough dirt, you can make coarse dirt and get more dirk from that

Pro tip: put some fences surrounding the block and also put water so that even if creepers spawn they won't be able to blow up ur work I also play one block

Just a quick tip for planting sugarcane is that you do not have to use sand to plant it. All you need is water and either sand or dirt!
