  • The 2023 Samsung S95C series OLED TV has one of the best pictures on the market. It uses a quantum dot layer to enhance colors and brightness, and has HDMI 2.1 inputs for next gen gaming features like VRR and 4K/120Hz or 4K/144Hz if you're using a compatible gaming PC. This is an excellent TV for watching movies, sports, or gaming.

    We have a 2018 Q9FN, and for the most part, I’ve been happy with it. We bought it because of its recommendation for moderately bright daytime viewing, as well as our off angle seating positions. I suppose I would still like it a bit brighter, and I’m sure the new stuff is, but my major complaint is that some movie scenes are so dark that you can’t see anything without changing setting mid movie. So, do I want this S95C or a Sony X93L?

    • @abtelectronics
      @abtelectronics  Před 9 měsíci

      @mdhomiak The Q9FN was actually considered one of the better TVs for watching dark scenes. Are you only changing the picture mode when this happens, or have you tried adjusting the local dimming settings or shadow details? Those settings may just need to be tweaked a little to give you a much better experience. That being said, both the S95C and X93L are great for dark scene viewing, but the S95C will produce deeper blacks and have no light blooming around bright objects because it uses OLED technology. For a high-end TV it's pretty crappy that it asks you to do "screen optimisation" the moment you turn on the TV giving you 1 minute to cancel it. This should happen when you switch the TV off, or when the TV switches off by itself ?!
    The home screen is loaded with bloatware that you can't get rid of which making the UI crawl like a turtle when you start the TV. There is some generous room for improvement.

      @toobalkain We don't have the G3 in stock yet to make a side by side comparison, but we're excited for it to arrive! You're absolutely right though, this is shaping up to be a great year for TVs!

      @@abtelectronics I bet many people can't wait to see G3 vs S95C vs A95L in real life content side by side. It took the manufacturers long enough but they seem to have realized consumers have turned into nit whores, hope we've entered a phase where every year will bring about at least a 50% increase in brightness till we reach 1.000 nits sustained on 100% window and 4.000 nit highlights so we'll need those sun eclipse sunglasses to watch the sun on TV.

    How the F Samsung now supports Dolby Atmos but is reluctant to adopt Dolby Vision???

      The benefits of dynamic metadata HDR such as DV and HDR10+ really shrink, if not disappear entirely with a display tech such as QD-OLED. Perfect black levels, high peak brightness and color volume negates the need for dynamic metadata because the display is already well capable of displaying the entire fixed metadata range of most HDR productions

      @@YONAHDAD HDR10+ is an open format that is FREE, if anything you should applaud Samsung for this. Dolby Vision is the problem because they are not an open format.
      Also metadata can be read by Apple TV hardware/software application and display properly.
      Amazon, CZcams, even Hulu support and disable 4k HDR 10+

      @@stephenpatterson8056 It is interesting, but I guess Dynamic metadata will be obsolete when we have 12 bit panels and 10,000 peak brightness tvs but yeah I see your POV

    • @stephenpatterson8056
      @stephenpatterson8056 Před rokem

      @@OctaviusGeorge At that point we'll all need new displays anyway lol. For the time being though with 12 bit not being a factor, DV itself is a nothing burger for these types of highly capable displays. If we were swimming in 4,000 nit films and shows then maybe DV would make more sense. But hardly anything is authored that bright. Hell it's still not even a majority of movies authored at 1,000 nits. So, a QD-OLED display is capable of basically perfectly rendering almost all HDR10 content. No dynamic metadata needed. But yeah everybody has gotten it in their head that EVERY new TV just MUST have DV. Honestly I think Samsung is smart to not include it because they know this particular display tech just wouldn't benefit from it and including it would simply drive costs up for no reason
