- Since its launch onboard a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket on Thursday, February 15, Intuitive Machines' Nova-C lunar lander, named Odysseus, has been making steady progress towards landing on the Moon. Less than a week after launching from NASA's Kennedy Space Center, the lander completed a 408-second lunar orbit insertion burn, placing it in a 92 km circular orbit around the Moon.
Spaceflight Now's Will Robinson-Smith spoke with leaders at NASA and Intuitive Machines about the spacecraft and its pathway to potentially becoming the first commercial lander to safely land on the Moon. Once on the surface, it will conduct a series of science experiments on behalf of NASA's Commercial Lunar Payload Services (CLPS) program.
Since publishing this video, Intuitive Machines conducted a lunar correction maneuver to raise the lander's orbit. They have consequentially updated their landing timeline and are now aiming to set the lander down on the lunar surface at 4:24 p.m. EST (2124 UTC).

In 1969 I was 17, and I saw the Apollo 11 landing and the first ever step on the Moon by Neil Armstrong with my 16-year-old girlfriend and her family. This Thursday, I will see America's return with that same girlfriend, my wife of 53 years. We are both excited to see America going back. It's about time. We are getting old.
I will be watching live from the UK. It’ll be about 22:45 GMT. I was too young to know what’s going on during Apollo 11. I was five months old!
That's beautiful! True love.
I watched the first broadcast of a landing with my brother before he lost his eyesight. Now he is in heaven where he was sure he would see again. If he peaks in today, it will be from a different perspective. Thank you for sharing!
I was eight and a half years old when I watched Neil Armstrong step in the moon. It's funny how we all have such distinctive memories. Nice comment.
This is so exciting isn’t it? I’m 69 now and I didn’t think they were gonna make it before I died.
😂😂😂😂
I love the scrappy rocket comment.
It’s smaller than the shuttle, and punches well above its weight. It looks like it’s seen a few rounds, too.
Scrappy is a perfect description.
Man so far it’s already doing better than Luna-25! It had issues in its orbital burn which is what doomed it. IM-1 Odysseus just entered lunar orbit flawlessly!
Yeah it's performance was perfect so far and hoping for a soft landing
Luna 25 was 30+ years old tech. You guys get such wet dreams with anything Russian. 😂 Go read NYT to get another round of a wet dream
I have nothing to say but Bruh.
Stick the Landing, Team!!
Wishing you all the best for the landing!
I am so happy I remember the first landing we were camping and didn’t get to see any of the video of it until I grew up. I don’t know why they didn’t show it over and over again every year like they do now, but I was hoping you would land another mission on the moon before I died. Thank you thank you thank you this is so exciting.
GOING GOOD!
Great report. Fantastic images.
Awesome job guys. 👍👍👍👍
Go Odysseus!!! Keeping fingers crossed!!!
There's also some sort of artwork being carried on Odysseus, along with the science payloads.
I'm so glad they finally updated the camera systems on these things now you can see stuff InFocus and not blurry
Better cgi...
I'll get me coat.
@@dougaltolan3017 It's NOT Hollywood, man!!! Geez...
It's an independent.
;-)
except for the moon
Tomorrow is the Big Day for Intuitive Machines. NASA/Artemis is dependent on this fully successful lunar landing.
*So exciting, God speed!*
Fingers crossed. All goes to plan. Go, Odysseus!!
Well done, IM. NASA. SX. And all the team. I'm over the Moon. No pun intended. Wahoooooo!!!!! Can't wait for the images and crucial data. 🙂🙃
What a pompous name. You make sure Greeks won't have any hero left for their space ships.

Wait pedro did you put the 9 volt battery in the computer...lol😂😂😂😂
@@loply9724 What name you got for the next lift up? Apollo's gone, Artemis gone, Mars's already a planet... what about Pocahontas??
Super cool, go team!
Best of luck guys
Brilliant propulsion.
Fascinating
It's about time. It's taken how long 10 years?
Go little lander go!
As far as the fuel and oxidizer tanks, can't they use a bladder? That way the intake is never exposed to anything except the fuel/oxidizer. I guess there could be issues with material science and temperatures, so it's just a thought.
A bladder at Cryogenic temperatures would become solid and useless. The only viable ways to control Cryogenic fluids in space is settling through IVF or capillary fluid management
So excited! GO ODIE!! Will be tuning in from Boston MA! God speed!
30 hours away!
👍🤞👍
How exciting!
Will it use vikram lander as a reference?
One wonders if the surface gravity will be measured. Hopefully: seems important.
What happened to Odie?
YESSSSS
Oooohhh, CEO is so spiritual!
Let’s see the video documentation. From the moon.
Best Wishes for a Safe Landing.
The future is uncrewed. We have made spectacular breakthroughs with Voyager, Mars landers, Moon landers. It's because we don't need to be weighted down by life support and human safety margins, which are absolutely needed on crewed flights. We can do so much more with landers, rovers, robots, 3-D construction.
Nothing can ultimately replace manned flights and colonization!!!
@@leechjim8023who would want to live on the moon? It’s gross.
🌕🚀 Exciting times ahead as the IM-1 Odysseus lander nears its Moon landing! Can't wait to witness this historic moment unfold! 🛰🌌
The stuff sitting up there is worth millions.
I think you guys should bring out the fact that I.S. has practived many difficult (1G) landings with their Moephe=us lander, so this isn't a "First time is the charm" event.
Did morphe land on the moon?
why are there no pictures of the moon?
There are plenty of photos of the moon. You can actually buy a cheap telescope and see it for yourself 😊
I'm so happy it's working out... Thanks god and all the people who r making it possible 🎉🎉🎉❤
Dang! I missed it 😭😭😭
Good news.
🎉😮🎉😮🎉
👍👍👍👍
So it made luna orbit?
Yes. Touchdown expected very soon today
Robinson Smith:? Those names are familiar😂😂😂
👍🎉
Bro literally paise the machine god
The most watched event in television history was the Apolo moon landing. Lets make history folks.
No one cares anymore. Not about the health of Earth’s ecosystems, not about exploring space. Social media, tribalism, conspiracy-theories, pseudo-science, war, cruelty, celebrity, sexism, racism and narcissism are the big sellers…
And pop music. Always pop music. Maybe we need a rapper on the moon, or “I’m A Celebrity, Can I Survive Moon Dust, Loving an Alien and The Dark Side”. That could get millions and millions of people -celebrating, partying and waving flags in the streets- passively clicking a short video?
Oddie!!!
They claimed to have gone to the moon in the 60's and still don't have the technology to go back on a manned flight today? Somethings wrong!
We do. It’s just extremely expensive. So expensive that making a new rocket and lander is cheaper
@@archierush868it has to be cheaper. The budget is a fraction of Apollo. And the mission is magnitudes more difficult. Spacesuits alone now have to survive weeks not hours
did he say he was Will robinson
He actually said Will Robinson SMITH. Oh- the pain!
6.8 minute burn
The LUNR stock might go back up to $135/share
It’s possible, I just bought 15 shares just for fun! To the moon!!! 🚀 🌙
I just bought a bunch of shares! @@ArendJanV
With the advances in technology over the last fifty years this should be a breeze .
1:20 "It's a scrappy rocket" (referring to the F9 launching the lander). I wonder if that upset Musk. ;-)
It is a positive connotation😀😀
Vacuum 😅 ??
Luna 25 ? Whose was that one …?
Russia
Intuitive Machines CEO Steve Altemus wears a jacket made by "Columbia." Coincidence? I think not.
You mean the same guy who used to work at NASA with Space Shuttles?
Another example of A1
well, you and a couple thousand other good people launched Shuttle. peace
0:25 Take that, Flat Earthers! An indisputable actual image of our SPHERICAL (ellipsoid) planet!
3:33 Flat Earthers: See! Look at the table...it's FLAT!!
They are trolling you
Intuitive, he is....
Odysseus will be sucessful because like in the Odyssey he was blessed by the gods.
I am confused we are trillions of dollars in debt, who is footing the bill?
Nasa has the lowest budget in the country
Shouldn't you be on a Money for Ukraine page?
Debt is good, it means you have more money to make investments with.
😅 It's not like anybody ever pays that that off who cares what it is
I think there lander is in trouble, maybe it had a hard landing, no high gain data, no images, zilch for over 24 hours and counting
It’s still got a connection, they’re just trying to get a higher strength signal to then send out the videos and photos and most importantly data
"we haven't been in space"..........one true thing to come out of NASA's mouth
😂Best of luck for the lunar landing!
This the real video footage😂😂
Yes it's great America is on its way the moon then mars and in the future the stars yes it is possible one day we'll done our American cousins❤
I can't stop thinking about the astronauts that died because of that O-ring problems that NASA knew about
Fun fact: big bird from Sesame Street almost went on the challenger…
Yep. And I feel the same way about the Columbia disaster.
Wow you'd think we've never landed on the moon before with all this hype. Ever hear of Luna?
Did you all see that flat earth?! Haha 😂
Send the damn thing to the landing sites from Apollo era and shut down the naysayers
" Will Robinson-Smith"???? Wow, someone is in to space fantasy enough to change their name.
Why is this such a big deal?? We have landed on the moon before, many many many many times. Every generation that goes by thinks they're the first that thought of an idea.
For America, they haven’t landed on the moon in over 50 years. Last time anything American made touched the moons surface was Apollo 17! All other moon landings have been done by other nations like Russia, China, India and Japan. This landing happening in a few hours would be the first time in over 50 years and American spacecraft touched down on the moon softly since Apollo 17
Plot twist:
The mission is a broom to erase all the ISRO logos.
Will the H²O released from the engine upon landing turn the moon rust red 🤔
"The moon will be as Hemia"
Hemia-Hematite?? April turns the sun black 😉
Will they happen in parallel?
Will Robinson-Smith? Really???
Perfect. I was thinking the same exact thing
Strange how they always show us CGI - put together with "technical commentary" to make it more realistic? Oh well
As Elon says, you can tell it's real because it looks so fake😂
Giving Flat Earthers migraines.
It takes zero stress to type ‘CGI’? Aren’t they just trolling you?
@@tubecated_development Most of them are trolls. I debunk trolls as well.
Weird to think....all this technology, computing power...how we have progressed as scientists?......still worried about landing on the moon. We did it 55 years ago with less computing power than an i-phone.....better fuel, better propulsion systems...whats gone wrong?
55 years ago we had pilots
Apollo was a fast, short-stay, low payload, direct moonshot with mostly analog gear flown by test pilots and war pilots at the edge of survivability. We don’t live in those days and we aren’t looking to run that mission with that tech. It’s finished. Gone. Why are people obsessed with Apollo? It was dismantled after 6 manned landings on the moon.
We want to survive for longer, travel to different parts of the moon (and further afield). Safely. It takes time to develop, test, and shield all the new micro-tech and life-support in order to survive increased radiation and whatever else. Not to mention, the budget is what, a fifth of Apollo’s?
A better question is - why is the fastest speed ever achieved by a manned, powered aircraft held by a 1950s plane? Why is the fastest passenger jet from the 1960s?
Yep. Get it. This thing was 3D printed and using tech of today. Just saying. Old school rules.
There's nothing new here.
Well after all. it's been more than Half a Century since Americans Landed There ... No reason we can't do it again....UNLESS we've gotten Sloppy.
I just want to see some astronauts go in to space instead of the I.S.S. which is in earths orbit not actual outer space.
Artemis is going to the moon in 2027 I believe
Evidently, it doesn"t, or was never designed to verify near surface water? If true, In my opinion, it's little more than junk! Junk that just missed out on what's really important! And also giving other country's the bragging rights of verifying moon water first! 😢
SLIM / Japanese lander faceplants. WTF?.
NASA........Leaving garbage on every rock in your solar system
Bill Nelson is hard to listen to.
Oh neat! Pretend space stuff 😂
Thought they did all this in the sixties? Only just trying to figure out what fuel is needed to land on moon on future lunar missions! Is this an admission that man on the moon was a hoax?
Nothing like re-learning to garner tax dollars.
Uh, a little salty there or just ignorant
Decades ago it was NASA, now it’s NASA-funded PRIVATE companies.
So, there can be a trial-and-error there
Two words: uninterested politicians.
Apollo was canceled in its prime and was replaced by a far inferior shuttle program. They attempted to go back to the moon in the 2000’s but the constellation program was canceled in its infancy.
It’s not that we lost the technology, we just lost the funding.
No.... 🤦🥱
wow, they stayed in low earth orbit.
Wow, your shoelaces are tiny malevolent snakes…
The moon is becoming a junkyard, to be discovered in a million years. The visitors will learn of the failed human race.
Once someone gets there and stays there, they can easily go around and clean up.
If the moon is colonized, all of that “spacejunk” on it would be collected and put into museums like what we do to thousand year old pottery shards. Our most high tech landers would look like Stone Age devices by then.
@@KING4aday46That’s a little bit of an exaggeration. But yeah, it would be easy to clean up once we have somewhat self sufficient infrastructure (in regards to fuel) is available. There is still a lot of distance between all the different landing sites
It would all fit into one modest sized crater
Is it gonna land by the base of lunar lander sent up there 1969! Of coursenot then the world would know that it never happened! Bull shit you think you would land besides the moon buggy or something! And can imagine if you found neil Armstrong turd! On the moon 😊
Please remind parent or guardian to activate parental lock on their CZcams
Theres no point in spending millions or billions on a probe or rover to a landing sight we’ve already been to and have collected and studied samples from already, just to prove to brain-dead idiots that we ACTUALLY WENT THERE! We have satellites orbiting the moon taking multiple pictures of the landing sites every week, why not believe them?
And, in the end, it would still be pointless since you’ll still call it fake, making the whole mission and the roughly billions spent to get a rover to the landing sites of Apollo 11-17 and skipping 13 since it never landed, pointless.
We already know this, your a wanna be space news channel.
I hope your pet responds better to its "creator" than God's children did to Him...
Way to be Super Heavy...
Terrible analogy.....also not a fact lol
@reasonandlogic1024 , ouch! I think its a great analogy...one invited by Mr Altemus himself. Steve is just being the best son he knows how to be--after sending his own "father" off to the moon. Or didn't you catch that? Why, even Telemachus sought out Odysseus during his enforced exile to Troy, didn't he?
"...not a fact"... IJBOL! What have you to do with FACTS anyway--you, a petty prodigal with empty pockets, who would wish away your own Father to spite Him for making you entirely dependent upon Him. Or does that hit you "too close to home"? When did YOUR Maker last check in with YOU...and what was your response?
Stay in your makeshift comfy-cave with your residual brain zaps and a cohort of shadow puppets, and keep spinning the most fabulous dismissals of the One Above All. [Or, John 6:37, 38...]
This too shall fail....we are not aloud on the moon. : }
Countries that have landed on the Moon: USA, USSR, China, Japan, India
This is bull shit
Yeah, actually. It's 60 year-old technology.
Another NASA CGI fest as usual. 😆
How does one put a lander on a plasma hologram?
Cee Gee Eye!
Regurgitating regurgitating regurgitating ! Click bait videos one after another. Dishonest at its core!

I'm really surprised that you didn't say "green cheese", as that makes the same amount of sense. None.
The moon is made out of rock and it’s very reflective, that’s why it’s bright.
