What is the Role of Unschooling Parents? Getting Started Unschooling for New Homeschoolers

This 3rd and last video of the Free Getting Started Unschooling Mini-Course, we talk about the role parents have when unschooling. When we opt for this unconventional educational path, it helps to look at our parenting and see how important our involvement is.
If you're thinking about homeschooling - maybe you're exploring all the various methods (Charlotte Mason, Eclectic, Relaxed, Classical Homeschooling) - I want you to consider the unschooling homeschooling method! The School-at-home approach often leads to more frustration and power struggles than is really necessary at all. But new homeschooling parents don't realize that and go on duplicating the very thing they were trying to get away from! Sometimes parents have heard myths about unschooling - that unschooling is unparenting - but nothing could be farther from the truth! This video will help you see how unschooling using more an attachment parenting technique or style, partnering with the kids to help them navigate and explore the world.
My own 3 kids were unschooled - all in their 30s now with careers, degrees, homes, and families. AND they loved their childhoods. No doors were closed because we took this unconventional approach to education. If you're like me, you're a little skeptical. You might go ahead and watch the next two though, just for the information. Lots of parents like pieces of unschooling - and there's nothing wrong with implementing the parts that resonate for you!

I wish! This mini-course is Step 1 toward all of that though. Having clarity at the beginning of this journey will prevent you from missteps along the way. I’ve included resources to keep diving a little deeper, going at your own pace, and getting the information you need to overcome whatever obstacles are keeping you from embracing and enjoying unschooling.

So glad you liked it! I don't have anything specific for large families, but my best tip would be to pace yourself! There are no Educational Emergencies. Figure out how to "check in" with each kid to be sure they're getting what they need . They'll all be different. Your job, whether you have 1 or 10 kids is to begin to deschool. Start to dismantle the old ideas about learning and parenting - what doesn't really fit anymore. So go to the Deschooling Playlist and start there. That will help you most! 💞

My daughter wants to be a dog groomer. How do I use this ?She’s 9.

Find ways to help her be around dogs, friends/neighbors with dogs.
Watch CZcams videos about dogs and grooming tutorials.
Go to PetCo and price out what tools would cost or see what's available there to use.
When she gets older, or if you wanted to do it with her, you/she could walk dogs or do dog sitting.
Find out more about dog rescue places/organizations, maybe volunteer there.
Maybe she could even start a dog-bathing business for the summer in the neighborhood.
Find out what she likes about the idea of BEING a dog groomer. See what you can do to help her explore that part.
