My Reaction to Episode 1 is now live on my channel! Check my playlists :)
What's great about this show (besides being volleyball-beginner friendly and amazing character-work) is that, despite it's realism, the stakes feel as high as any shounen nekketsu. A must-watch in my humble opinion.
Haikyu is the japanese word for volleyball although it's not used as much now these days.
I actually didn't care about volleyball at all prior to watching this show. Now I play pick up volleyball 2-3 times/week and it's all because of Haikyu!! It's truly an exceptional experience. Haikyu!! was so impactful in Japan that it reversed the dying volleyball scene in the country. Most of the Japanese players have watched it and are fans of the show. They even played the different openings at the Tokyo Olympics during Japan's games.
It is truly one of the most tangibly influential anime out there right now.
Wow, that's really cool! Love the influences.
Please, I need you active automatic english subtitles because my english listening is not good :/
Thanks for your video!
Volleyball is always popular to play at school in Japan like soccer, basketball and baseball. Don't know where you got wrong idea.
@@skskss888 It was in a Japanese documentary that covered high school Japanese Volleyball.
@@skskss888 Well, before 2014, volleyball actually became less and less popular in Japan, losing its players over the years. It was a sport that wasn't as well known as the other ones anymore. But ever since the manga and anime of Haikyuu was made, it made a huge impact to the country and the popularity of the sport increased.
Should I check out the Endings? Also, what other OP’s should I check out next? Comment below.
Be sure to check playlists to see my other OP & series reactions!
Yeess, the endings are very cool too!
Maybe Kuroko no Basket next? :D
Mm i recommend the OP's from Danganronpa Anime series, the show is not very great but the openings are super fun
try ranking of kings OP and ED and the show too its really really gooddd :))))
I'd like if you reacted to the Jujutsu Kaisen openings and endings.
Also if you're a fan of analyzing philosophical and psychological concepts I think Psycho-Pass is an anime that you should definitely check out.
Gundam 00 or Gundam Iron Blooded Orphans both have pretty great OPs. Haikyuu is a fantastic show as well~
The different color uniform is for the libero, who specializes in defence only. So that means no serving or attacks.
And holy smokes how accurate your guesses are. Props to u
Its important for them to stick out because of that reason
Haikyuu is definitely a great feel-good show to watch in between darker shows. It has masterful character work (the blond guy with glasses is probably one of the best examples of awesome character development I've seen), great "action" sequences whose stakes derive from how attached to the characters you feel and a plot that feels both simple and interesting.
I would love to see you watch at least the first couple of episodes of the channel.
Great video! Keep it up!
I agree, but people always seem to downplay how each character has amazing character development and the themes they portray; especially oikawa
The background music remix in your intro was a nice touch. :) That particular track is actually a pretty substantial plot point through Season 4. I love this series, but it took until about Episode 9 for me to be hooked. As a Japanese teacher, it's also really rare among anime in having realistic language. If you want to learn any Japanese by imitation, this is one of the few series where you wouldn't sound like a cringey sociopath, so that's a plus, haha.
Let me clarify: I know this isn't your jam per se, but the background music (by Hayashi Yuuki), is a massive well of symbolism and metaphor.
Thank you :) always try to add some touch of the series for music in my openings reactions if possible. I am definitely willing to put this series on a future series poll for reactions!
"Haikyuu" is another ancient way of saying volleyball in Japanese, if I'm not wrong
And yesss, there are a looot of characters, and the anime tries to show about them all, explaining that everyone is good in their own way, that everyone makes mistakes, and that to win you need to dedicate yourself
For me, it's one of the ways this anime makes everything more interesting :)
Omgg yess, Haikyuu is my comfort anime. I played volleyball for nearly 3 years but my team at that time and their dynamic made me quit even though I love the sport since all my family plays it but Haikyuu literally made me fall in love with volleyball once again and even ended learning more about the sport that all those years training with a team
The guess about the friendly rivalry between the mcs, I- you’re good man. Pleeasee react to the whole anime.
Man I love this anime. I don’t like sport, never saw a sports anime before this, and I knew nothing about Volleyball before I started Haikyuu. It’s very good.
It’s exactly what you’d expect. There are no superpowers. No sudden explosions of violence. It’s about volleyball, teamwork, and character development. That’s it. It’s not over yet, S5 is coming out in the next year or so I believe.
It’s pretty lighthearted and chill. But also really hype at times!
Also in terms of animation, the episodes look the same as the openings.
And for songs, 1 and 3 were both done by Spyair (who made a couple of the best Gintama openings), 4,5,6 were made by Burnout Syndromes (who have done a lot of different openings eg Dr Stone OP1), 2 was made by Sukima Switch (who made the 3rd FMAB opening, Golden Time Lover). And 7 was made by Super Beaver (who I haven’t heard any other anime openings by).
Also my favourite OP was 4, Fly High.
Idk why the scene of the MC drinking water in the first opening is really satisfying
Bc it's well animated. It feels fluid.
It's the first time I'm watching any of your reactions but for what you're saying you would love Haikyuu. Loved your reaction so totally on board if you decide to react to the endings or the whole show. What everyone in the comments is saying it's true. Haikyuu is pretty realistic, of course it's still an anime but no crazy superpowers, and the volleyball is accurate (I knew nothing about it before starting and now, thanks to Haikyuu I often watch and can perfectly follow real games). It's a feel-good, highly motivational anime and not only you end up loving all the characters in the main team (which name means crow in Japanese, that's why there are so many crow images) but also get to know pretty well (and end up loving too) a good amount of rival teams. Even if you don't end up reacting to the episodes I seriously recommend you watch it, you will enjoy it for sure 😊
Alsoo, as a volleyball player I can confirm that the animation is on point on the sports techniques and the show is the definition of big cast and characters development, we don´t care who you are
ngl haikyuu is prob the best sports anime I've read/watched. it indulges in its fair share of genre tropes, but it adds enough realism and depth to the characters to keep it from getting anywhere near tiring. I'm not an athlete and knew very little about volleyball going in, but the cast & the themes of the story still really resonated with me. I'd love to see your reaction to the series - I tend to prefer more subdued and thoughtful reactors in general, but especially with haikyuu where character relationships, motivations, and growth paths are so important!
also, the title of the show is just an archaic term for volleyball, from the kanji 排球 lol. in Japanese people usually call the sport the shorthand of the english borrowed word, "baree" (バレー).
if you haven't already looked this up, the manga is concluded but the anime isn't. there are 4 seasons & we're waiting on season 5.
i had the same opinion til i watched slam dunk
it's not the best sports anime imo
@@humanoidfrog4645 oh cool, which ones do you prefer? I haven't seen all of the big ones.
@@iizou1738 it's a smaller sports anime.. all sports anime's are a little underated even haikyuu is only second rate compared to shows like black clover or one piece
@@humanoidfrog4645 bro said shit clover is better then Haikyu lmfao, the writing alone is miles above black clover, and the animation as well, and the music, black clover isn’t close to Haikyu
Haikyuu is one of my favorite anime ever, and also one of the best written in terms of character development. Just as you said, the anime is pretty realistic, doesn't have anything like super powers or anything like that. The WHOLE cast (and I mean literally the WHOLE, not only the protagonists) have their moments, at some points where you don't even know who cheer for. This is an amazing anime and a must-watch for sure. Hope you give it a chance, you won't regret it :)
I swear by Haikyuu. Haikyuu means so much to me in alot of ways. I cant even Express what this show has done for me in character development and personal issues in my life.
i also thought , how can they make voleyball more interesting
i hadnt ever played voleyball before and was quite confused whether to watch it
but my god once i started i got aaddicted and finished the 80 or something episodes in like 3-4 days
definitely a watch even if u know nothing about the game
This one is genuinely such a wholesome show and very funny! It does such an AMAZING job at building characters and making you root for all them! At some points I found myself rooting for the opposing team (no enemies in this one)
Every assumption and question he asked was so good but when he said “how do they make the sport of volleyball so interesting” and all I could think was ohhh man just you wait, you’ll understand I promise
It’s amazing how accurate your predictions are 😂
You got a surprising amount of stuff right.
I was never big into volleyball and didn't like sports anime in general, but haikyuu made me fall in love with sports anime.
When this show got popular the number of high schoolers in Japan interested in Volleyball increased enough to be noticed, so yeah a lot of the audience watched the show and got into voleyball because of it.
You still continue to be absolutely amazing at hitting the nail on the head in your predictions. Even some of your "stretches" of theories hit much closer than you'd expect it to.
Totally in love with #6! Phoenix is such a killer song and the animation is great. & I knew absolutely nothing about volleyball going into this show, and honestly I think I made it an even better watch. This show is such a good time, and honestly refreshing somehow?
I'm glad that you've chosen this series! Hope you react to it, I'm really looking forward to that :)
"Imagination" and "I'm a Believer" are sang by the same band, SPYAIR. And "Fly High", "Hikari Are" and "Phoenix" are all sang by Burnout Syndromes. My favorite OP is definitely Fly High, but the others are amazing too.
Btw, the second OP "Ah Yeah!!" is sang by Sukima Switch, the same band who did FMAB OP 3 "Golden Time Lover." And ED 1 and 5 (my personal favorite one) are by NICO Touches the Walls, who also did FMAB OP 2 "Hologram".
This was in my recomendations, its the first video i see of your channel; i really like Haikyuu.
About what you said about the type of reactor that you are: Haikyuu often has a bunch of symbolisms that i would like to see if you pick up on them, they are ones that escape me until i see a comment in a reactor pointing it out.
And dont worry about your knowledge of volleyball, a lot of us entered with little to none knowledge, and Haikyuu will eventually explain you things here and there; especially the basics.
About how real is the volleyball in the anime: I watch other people react to Haikyuu, mainly people with actual knowledge in voleyball, and they often say that the anime is actually pretty accurate in the volleyball basis, obviously not perfect all the time, but its gotten a lot of praise for its accuracy, and some reactors have shared their own anecdotes that are similar or felt the same as some things in Haikyuu.
About the character development: there is a lot of that! There is a fan-favorite "mini" arc that starts in season 2 and "finishes" in season 3.
About the meaning of the word "Haikyuu": For what i remember its like a less used name for voleyball in japanese.
Haikyuu really knows how to make voleyball interesting! The initial goal for the manga was to make more people join volleyball teams because there was a lack of interest in Japan, and it work out even better than what they expected!
The anime is not finished yet, but the manga is, so be carefull with spoilers, especially because there is a timeskip, so try to add "pre timeskip" here and there if you really need to look something up, to avoid spoilers.
Also you are not really alone, Fly High is a favorite among fans.
Im subscribing and looking forward to you reacting to Haikyuu!
The 3rd opening has a special place in my heart
"There's only so much variation you can get. I mean, they're playing volleyball."
_(Fly High has entered the chat)_
"How do they make volleyball interesting"
Genius writing tbh. After finishing Haikyuu, Furudate-sensei (the mangaka) moved to the top of my personal list of best manga storytellers, even surpassing Oda (One Piece).
Haikyu is the show some people never give a chance because it's "just volleyball" but I swear it is one of the best and has everything anyone could want- amazing storytelling, great memorable characters, deeply moving character development, hype action scenes, emotional moments, friendship and nakama feels, training montages, tournament arcs (spoiler: sports anime is tournament arc: the anime lol), addicting sound and score, impressive sakuga. Give it a chance and you'll be hooked. It's one of my most favorite anime of all time! 🧡💙
This is a very engaging and inspirational series. I never played any sports (aside from gym classes) and never had interest in it. Honestly, I just happened to watch this show by chance. My cousin brought a copy of the first 2 seasons once when I was in junior high school and me and my group of cousins decided to sit and watch just because. After that, we didn't even notice that we've been sitting in front of the television for almost a day. That's how hooked we got on the show. This is actually subjective because everyone's preferences are not the same but Haikyu!! is the best piece of literature and series I have read and watched my entire life. This opinion of mine will never change. If you ever react to this show, I hope you will also feel the same way as I do for this anime. Thank you for reacting to the openings and I'm hoping to see more from you in the future!
I think more than 80% of people before watching haikyuu kind of like just neutral about volleyball. But after watching it it made them go love it with all their heart.
Haikyuu is such an amazing anime for everyone. For everyone who ever wanted to be good at anything, or didn't feel like you were good enough, or worked too hard, or didn't work hard enough. It's really an anime that keeps is very real. It reminds me of FMA in which everyone is the main character of their story with their own motivations. The general consensus is that you'll love every single character in this anime and by then end you'll have like 1092819 adopted children. When teams face off against each other you'll always cry because there are winners and there are losers and you'll feel for them both.
The player with the alternative uniform is because he plays the legendary role of having the power of rolling thunder umu (u will understand after watching the show ahaha) and hearing u talk about how this anime can get more hype since there will only be balls going from one side to another, yea although haikyu is as real as it is, unlike some other super powers sports anime like kurokuno basket, you will still be as hyped as u watch kny or mha
i always find it funny when people react to haikyuu intros, bc without context it's just... volleyball. but still, i think you did as good a job breaking it down as anyone could have. The show is one of my favorites. Never watched a sports anime before it, didn't know a thing about volleyball, and didn't follow or care about any real sports, so it's definitely one you can start from 0.
And 5 is my fav intro. very cinematic, and the lyrics are weirdly intense for a sports anime, which i think is fun.
If I could describe haikyuu in summary, I would say: teenagers playing volleyball all day, amazing character and friendship development, neither boring nor complex.
It's the anime that made me feel things, after a long time without feeling what I felt with FMAB.
Haikyuu is in my top 5 anime shows. You’ll fall in love with the whole cast. Also yeah it’s volleyball, but it’s more than just. Volleyball!
There is actually technically 2 Main characters. 1st MC is Hinata(orange hair-10) and 2nd MC is Kageyama(black hair-9).
There team name is Kurasuno, which translates to Crow.
The person who has the opposite color scheme jersey's from the rest of the team is the player called a Libero, they specialize in defense and saves. They never spike or serve the ball.
Watching the show on the channel already!
I got into Haikyuu with hesitation but from different reasons than most. I am a huge volleyball fan, I love the game, I try to attend as many proffesional games as possible, I was at 2014 World Championship finals, 2021 European Championship finals and many many more, including league games. Also played it a lot when I was younger. When I started to watch Haikyuu I was almost sure it wouldn't capture true beauty of the sport, ruin it with some superpowers or power of friendship. Instead I'm here looking for new reactors to witness how another one will fall in love with the show as much as I did. I wish someone would make a compilation of reactors saying "that's just volleyball, how interesting can it be?", "I don't see how they can make few seasons without being repetitive" and then same people crying from emotions, stating that it somehow bacame their top5 anime. Not to mention it is impossible not to smile while watching, it just makes you feel good.
If you'll react to Haikyuu I will be here for sure!
I'm so excited for this omg
Nice reaction it was interesting to watch ! To be honest I've watched more than 200 animes and Haikyuu is my top 1.
The pacing is amazing, the character development is top notch and the story is so well done.
I didn't know anything about volleyball but the main force of this anime is to show how fun and interesting volleyball is so no worries if you don't know anything about this sport. There is so much efficiency and the lives lessons through the characters are so inspiring and poetic in a very good way.
So if you want to give it a try you shouldn't hesitate ! 😁
I knew nothing about volleyball going into this, nor watched any previous sports anime. Haikyuu is what started my love for this genre!!!
My family loves Ecuadorian volleyball, it’s pretty different but we love volleyball. This show definitely hyped it up for us during the pandemic cause we haven’t played in a while because of it, and we don’t really play during winter
Back when I lived in Ecuador there was a court near my house! And a huuuge crowd of men gathered every weekend to play, I remember it being very popular. I used to sign up for volleyball during school olympics, I kinda sucked lmao, but I really enjoyed it, and none of the girls wanted to be on the team 😅 so I had to fill in (also was goalie for the football matches, that I was better at).
I believe I speak for many fans when I say that Haikyuu is one of the animes with top-tier storytelling. Everything from the premise to the character development is amazing. I really like how inclusive it is since, while I don't play volleyball, I learned a lot just by watching the show.
Hoping to see haikyuu on your channel in the near future!
If you love character development, Haikyuu is for you ! No superpower, show just a realistic way to be better everyday.
I'm not a sport anime fan at all, and my best friend did not now shit about volleyball before watching Haikyuu, and it's one of our favorite anime now :)
Hope you'll react to it ! In the meantime, I subscribe ;)
17:32 that's what the creator's goal was, but he ended up making one the best animes ;)
The openings only show the volleyball gameplay but trust everyone this show has the best characters and growth with a big variety
I was never into sports especially not sport anime, I checked out haikyuu for the voice actor, I was blown by how addicting and good it is because at first I was like "how are they gonna make a volleyball anime interesting" and boi was I surprised by the amount of depth it has and I'm basically attached to their characters. this anime has no antagonists and that's refreshing because everyone here is human and still learning, you can't really hate on any character and you'll find yourself rooting for every team 😂 I'm personally not a "hyped" kind of person so I'm really surprised that I even consider this as my top 3 fav anime
The series hasn’t finished. There’s still about 3-4 more manga story arcs left to animate. We’re still waiting for season 5 to be announced. Currently there are 85 episodes + 3 canon OVA’s, 2 of which adapt a story arc from the manga.
Btw, I recommend you to react to the openings and endings of March Comes in Like a Lion! It may not seem like it, but although it seems like a really wholesome series (which it is), it also deals with some really serious real life issues, and it nailes them.
I’ve heard its a masterpiece. All I really know is it’s about shogi? But deals with a lot of emotions and darkness. Sounds super intriguing to me.
@@CastSenpai March comes in like a lion is truly amazing! I'd say it's perfect to make an in-depth analysis since there is a lot to say regarding its themes and characters. I wouldn't say it is a story about shogi, but it does play an important part in it. But don't worry, you don't really need to know much about the game to enjoy the anime. You should definitely react to it! :)
@@CastSenpai It is a total masterpiece, and it has shogi in it, but to be honest, it feels very secondary
Can you watch all monogatari openings? It would definetly be a fun first impression lol. Also Haikyuu is 100% worth the watch no prior experiences to volleyball are needed! It is a fun and emotionall ride with character development as its main focus
I’d love to see you react to haikyuu! I also had little to no knowledge about volleyball going in aside from PE growing up, but this show does a really good job of teaching you what you need to know organically. I also tend to prefer shows with darker themes/conflicts and never thought I’d be so invested in a volleyball anime, but this show is just really something special. It’s passionate, uplifting, and just puts you in a good mood. The main thing that sold me was the character writing though. Everyone here matters and has a story, whether it’s the opposing team, a manager, or even someone on the bench, they all contribute in some way. But it doesn’t get bogged down, and the action, music, themes and imagery just tie it all together so beautifully. The character development isnt just a one and done type of thing either. I could go on and on about literally any of them, and if you like compelling antagonists, haikyuu has got them in spades. I think the fandom is actually pretty evenly distributed across the various teams in picking their favs, which just goes to show how carefully they’ve been crafted. And as the cherry on top, the further you get into this series, the more there is to analyze. The character arcs and themes/life lessons they and their teams represent are what have solidified this series as one of my favorite shows. The anime itself isn’t complete yet, we’re actually just getting into some of my favorite parts of the story (because it keeps getting better and better), but I hope you give it a chance someday!
This is honestly one of the best shows to react to. Good characters, very engaging, great writing, and lots of hype.
You will also love "Kageyama" as well on here. He is the black hair boy
ALSO YES This show goes through soooooo much character devel1. Its literally this shows focus
haikyuu is about inspiration and passion for what makes you happy, the journey to achieve your goals and huge doses of life lessons, is full of philosophy and focuses a lot on personal growth and character development. In addition to being completely friendly with volleyball newbies, and a very realistic animation :). yes it's my second favorite anime (aot is first)
I play basketball so I watched Kuroko no Basuke first before Haikyuu. They were both the best anime sports out there, but I can say for sure that Haikyuu offers more realistic in depth stories. It's all worth the hype.
Btw the person who has the different colour uniform is the libero, they specialise in passing and cant spike. They can only play in back line and aren't allowed to serve, they can sub with any player on the back row infinitely. So unlike other players who can only get switched in once a set, the libero can switch in any time
You will definitely love it, it wont let you down.😊
Looking forward if you're going to react to HAIKYUU!!
Besides, fyi, HAIKYUU means volleyball in japanese.
I started watching Haikyuu in 2014/15 out of boredom and just instantly fell in love with the show and the sport. I looked up real life volleyball matches and started watching tutorials and then tried out at a local club/hobby team and been playing ever since. I've also started coaching beginner practices one or two years ago when my coach got his second child and wanted to spend more time at home.
Damn, this anime literally changed your life huh? That is super cool though.
Heyyy there, I’m gonna write down my thoughts through the video here. Just some comments on this and that ^^
- The intro is not too long, it’s perfect
- “[…] anime reaction channels are definitely not the type of thing people would typically subscribe to.” - Me: *presses sub button and the bell just to prove otherwise*
- You’re analyzing everything and I love that!
- And you’re guesses are pretty accurate as well, or at least really understandable and logical
- My favorite openings are 4 and 5 I guess. But mostly looking at the music and not the visuals, because I love these songs and they have been in my playlist for so long already :3 (and because I love the visuals in all of them)
- “To the Top” is actually a fourth season and the anime is still not finished yet. So probably there will be one or two more seasons. But not even the 5th is announced yet D:
- You learn so much about volleyball while watching this show if you didn’t know anything before. I think that’s pretty cool. And I actually started playing volleyball because of it :)
- This anime is sooo emotional and exciting, even though they are just playing volleyball (and without superpowers or anything). That’s insane
- The animations are awesome in this anime. Like about 3 or 4 times I almost cried just because of the animations and the emotions they caused.
- “Not a very expressive guy, is he?” - stating facts right here
- It was my fist sports anime and I loved it from the very beginning already
- Overall opinion about the anime: It’s just insane, it’s my favorite and I would love to watch you reacting to it.
- Overall opinion about you: This is how reactions work, just so! You’re almost talking more than you’re watching the video. That’s how it workes imo. Great job, keep up the great stuff. ^^
Don’t mind my not perfectly accurate English :3 🇺🇸
Anyways, greetings from Germany! 🇩🇪
Thanks for the kind words :)
for me i think haikyuu is a must watch even if you dont even play sports, so many relatable things about life and good tension in the match, and for a volleyball newbies it gots a pretty good detailed explanation too..
many reactor pretty reluctant to it at first just because they dont really like sports genre but ended liking it at the end
Omg thank youuu. I really love when reactors get in it deep and try to analyse in a philosophical, ethical way. Im looking forward to it.
I would LOVE to see you react to the episodes, I am loving your takes and interpretations so much, really excited to watch them!
Going into Haikyuu, i didn't know a thing about volleyball. I'm not even a sports fan but this show somehow still managed to get me hooked.
Yes haikyuu has the biggest cast in the anime history i think
the one player with a different color uniform plays a special position called a 'libero'. A libero is a defensive specialist who is not allowed to serve or rotate to the front line. In order to be easily identifiable by the referee they wear a different uniform, usually an inverted version of the teams colors.
one day i heard opeing "hikari are" and then binge watched it all in like 1 days haha
I subscribed to your channel just now cause I love how you definitely pay attention to the details of the opening not just bang your head to the song like other opening reactors. I get it that the song is really nice but pay attention to what's happening in the anime too lmao. Your observations and theories are really good! I don't want to say if they're accurate or not though 😌
And as someone who has seen Haikyuu several times, I wasn't really into playing volleyball before watching it. But Haikyuu does a good job in teach their viewers the rules, the position, the critical thinking of players while in the game and before you know it, when you watch live volleyball game you're gonna start thinking critically too 🤣 there's also no superpowers in it which is what I like about it. It's realistic and inspiring 👌 hoping you'll watch Haikyuu 🥲
About his eyes being closed, it is not symbolic, he literally keeps his eyes closed, bcs if he keeps them open, he usually overthinks it, and would miss the ball, that is coming at great speed. He is no god given talent for volleyball, just infinite energy and will to play it.
I knew nothing about Volleyball before watching Haikyuu! The writer wrote in a few characters that know nothing about Volleyball either, which is really clever because as they're learning about it, the audience are too! You need no prior knowledge to enjoy it, and you should definitely watch it :)
I was so reluctant to watch this anime at first because I don't like volleyball and was really doubting how an anime about it cam be exciting. But after 1-2 episodes I was sucked in and I never looked back. If you do choose to watch it, you won't regret it. Compelling character dynamics are a selling point.
The emotional journey you will go through will be a rollercoaster. It's not also called "Hype-kyu" for nothing.
Tears of hype is definitely a thing when watching this.
I would love for you to watch Haikyuu!!! Hopefully it happens
u hit the nail in the head about the two main characters' dynamics! def subscribing to keep a look out for future haikyuu reactions
before watching i knew absolutely nothing about volleyball, but it still remains to this day one of my favourite shows !! haikyuu has had such an impact on me and i cant believe how accurate some of your predictions were.. the volleyball games in this show are so enthralling and make you want to just keep watching - the rival schools and players are such good characters and my favourite character isn't actually out of the main team. i highly recommend this because the character development is outstanding and genuinely just makes me so happy. great reaction dude keep up the good work !
I totally get you hahaha I usually watch dark animes 😆 Shingeki is the perfect example. Watching Haikyuu gives me such refreshing feelings, it lifts up my mood. 😌
the black haired guy is kageyama as you probably know by now. i have to say haikyuu openings are ones that have so many details and symbolism that you can only know/notice if you watch the show. the anime is arguably the best sports anime right now, it gives you a roller-coaster of emotions cuz you kinda want to cheer the rival teams when you meet them and every single character is well written. it has 4 seasons so far. there will def be a fifth and even sixth season as far as the manga goes and even more depending on how much they plan to adapt. i watch sports anime often since its one of my fav genres and this one got me so invested its crazy. in case you don't know how big the show is, they play its osts in the volleyball olympics
Anime community often talks to haikyuu as "mid" but honestly its so good. I even ended up reading the manga. One of my top animes for sure
OMG please do check the anime out. It is really good and comforting yet hype at the same time
Man I can’t wait for you to watch this after watching the openings. Everything you thought would be hard to do with just a high school playing volleyball are addressed.
Haikyuu is incredible it’s genuinely one of my top 10 anime/manga
Would absolutely love it if you reacted to the whole series! Loved the video and subscribed!
How to introduce this show without spoiling... Well, regarding the two main characters, the story follows Hinata, the short orange guy - who loves volleyball because of his idol Little Giant that showed the world that even if you're not tall enough, you can still play volleyball and be awesome enough. Yeah, his high jumping power is his good point and his height is the highlight. Otherwise he is kind of newbie to volleyball, so there's a lot lot of growth (the first opening where he hits the ball with eyes closed was actually a big thing - showing how awesome his trust into the other guy is, and how strong and cool the other protagonist actually is). And the other guy - Tobio Kageyama, is a genius setter (hmm, he sets balls close to net so that his team can spike them, he loves this position) who used to be very good, but because his team couldn't catch up with him nor because he could properly communicate with them, Kageyama was abandoned by his team and "left alone" on the court without anyone hitting his balls. So yeah, there's a story about growth from these two characters around these issues, and how they become a great combo.
The backstory is that Hinata and Kageyama met in junior high competition in one game as enemies, and both remembered each other. It's funny because Hinata planned to beat Kageyama and considered him as his rival as he enrolled this school, but the story starts as they end up at the same school Karasuno High (yeah, literally means black crow, their mascot you often see) and now have to work together. Because of their past issues they don't really get along at first as rivals, but later on they go to become a famous duo (ah, their bickering goes all the way to the end of story too, but in a good and funny way). Hinata is someone who says to Kageyama that he will always be there to hit his balls and that makes Kageyama slowly step out of his shadows while Kageyama becomes a setter that lets Hinata be able to hit cool spikes, as Hinata always wanted. This is about the beginning of story as these two start a journey with their team to play to the top, going through various competitions, meeting various teams and growing even more. There indeed are lot characters, but you can easily remember them as you watch the story. They aren't just extras as many shows create them, they all have cool and different stories so you can't get bored of Haikyuu easily. As main team grows, so do others - which is really cool since this show was more about volleyball than just few characters, making one really want to go out to play it.
So yeah, most of this show is about playing volleyball and showing growth of youth, with every match having its own cool rivalry making one unable to stop watching and anticipating for more.
P.S. the blond guy really is the cool guy, but he also has that 'I really want to hit him' vibe. The seniors are also quite cool and interesting. The guy with different dress is a team 'libero'. He's mostly responsible for receiving the ball, is never in front of the net and never servers - instead, other players substitute him during his serving phrase and he later goes back in. The dumb thing isn't their hideout, it has something to do with one of their schools last rivals Nekomata (their mascot is cat), so it's like cats vs crows fighting at a dumpster thing. It's pretty cool.
Never watched a sports anime, never played volleyball, now I do, now I'm a D1 volleyball athlete lmao, show made me love the sport
14:10 the impacts of the spikes in the show are actually how real spikes are in real life. It sometimes does seem to be superpowers!
14:29 The one person with a differently colored uniform is called the "libero" and is the main defender of the team. Pretty cool stuff!
Everything you said you liked to react to in anime is exactly what I love about this show... I'm so excited forcthe possibility that you'll watch the whole thing!!!
Im hyped to see a future reaction series from you! You're indepth detail oriented type of reacting will be perfect for Haikyuu!
(also I had zero clue about sports in general until I watched Haikyuu. it really peaked my interest)
I really hope we can win the poll so you can watch haikyuu
You're gonna love it, it has everything you said you like in a story and it's a great show to get hyped and feel good
Come on haikyuu fans, we can make this happen once again
I was not into volleyball before watching Haikyu. I enjoyed it a bit more than other sports that we had to try in gym class, but that was about it. Despite that, I _love_ Haikyu.
It's a very grounded show (no super powers, and there is real life footage from actual games for a lot of things that look like they wouldn't be realistic), and incredibly character driven, with characters that I really enjoy.
This is the first video I've seen of your channel, but you seem pretty cool, and having another source of Haikyu reactions is always welcome, so it definitely has my vote
my favorite opening is op 4 "Fly High" both the song and the visuals for op 4 is just great imo
I actually didn’t like sports nor knew anything about volleyball when I first started this anime, and boy let me tell you how hyped I got at every game!! Highly recommend!!
The reason one character had a different colored uniform was because they play a specific position in which they need to stand out more than say, the spiker or setter.
Haikyuu was my first sports anime and I also didn’t know anything about volleyball but now I like volleyball a little and I live haikyuu
Ooh, just noticed Vinland Saga there in the background. Impeccable taste-
Damn right
dude read trough the whole anime, one of the best reactors i have seen in a while
Be sure to check out my channel where I just finished season 1 :)
Thank you for reacting to haikyuu’s openings!! It’s my favorite sports anime. I recommend you to check out the openings and endings of banana fish. They are great too!!
Honestly before haikyuu i didnt know that much about volleyball, never played it. This show inspired me so much that now i play at club leverl 4 times a week and i potencially will revieve a university scholarship. Definetly the most influencial show in my life you should definetly check it out
Haikyuu is such a fun and comforting volleyball and friendship anime with great characters. Also greatly realistic in sports and relationship terms. It also doesn't get distracted by side plots and just focuses on volleyball and the main friendships.
your guess in the end reaaally is giving me a goosebumpss
for haikyuu you dont need to know anything about vollyball, the show explains everything pretty good. hope you watch it, i like to see people fall in love with one of my favorite animes ;)
