"The extrusion or tongue-thrust reflex helps protect babies from choking or aspirating food and other foreign objects and helps them to latch onto a nipple. You can see this reflex in action when their tongue is touched or depressed in any way by a solid and semisolid object, like a spoon. In response, a baby’s tongue will thrust out of their mouth to prevent anything but a nipple from a breast or bottle from coming through." Babies are not ready for solids until they lose the extrusion reflex.

If you attempt to start solids and baby is still pushing food out like this it is a sign they're not ready and you need to stop and try again later. There are also studies that show delaying solids improves gut health and decreases risk of diabetes. Definitely do some research before beginning solids! The majority of an infant's nutrients should be coming from breastmilk/formula.

I was laughing while watching this cause my baby is not quite ready for cereal, but in preparation I'd bought the exact same cereal, spoons, high chair, and someone gave me the same little solid food holder...
My daughters 3 now, but she had the same reaction. Bit bland and she didn’t like the flavour. I mixed the rice cereal with a bit of any flavour jam to make it taste a bit better and then she loved it!

It’s funny how things have changed in 42 years ! My son is now that age and when he was born 8lb 4z he was constantly unhappy with just milk ! My mother bless her a mother of 5 said that baby needs more than milk ! He was 3 months she made me a baby recipe of egg custard once a day for him and explained within a month any veg potatoe and meat liquidise a little and feed him once a day ! In those days we cooked 😂 baby food was just a convenience ! I followed her advise which she also said every baby’s different ! Best thing listen to mother he thrived grew into a 6ft 2 handsome man who adores his food and is a fab cook ! His sister was different although I still took my mothers advice she was a little older with farleys rusk cereal first ! Both grew healthily into their later childhood with no fussy eating !! The old ways aren’t bad and it’s become too scientific for young mums and there are a lot of extremely fussy children and adults about food ! Good old plain pots veg and meat ! 😊
My mom is also telling me to give some solids to my 3 months old dear son. I'm so nervous.... everyone says not to give solid until he's 6 months old. After seeing this video I have requested my mom to make something for him next week, hopefully Monday, fingers crossed.
The issues not with growth it is digestive issues. This is survivor bias. Things change for a reason and it is not all bad. Stop encouraging diseases which is what happens from eating too soon. Glad your children grew up liking food, but that’s not the issues at hand.

Be careful with rice cereal...rice often has arsenic which can be harmful to babies. I have 2 other kids as I wasn't aware of this when they were little. But I'm staying away from rice and products with rice flour with my last child. Thank you for this video otherwise. I just want to spread awareness for who it can help. You did a wonderful job. I think you can supplement rice cereal with oat cereals instead.

Two different pediatricians, with different experiences and one younger and one older both say this. And further research states it depends on the child and the child’s physical development. Some baby’s have to wait and some don’t it really depends on their stomach development. I’ve read and who I’ve spoken too all agree that. And it’s not like you’re jumping into mashed up food(which a lot of people do and that’s what the issue is), starts of with broth and egg YOKES at four months

I’m healthy, no allergies, no digestive issues or problems, absolutely nothing is wrong with me. I guess the safest route would be to wait because of minority issues like taking away all peanut butter in schools due to one person having allergies as for example. BAD pediatricians recommend 4 months, and your baby is showing none of the signs of readiness. If your pediatrician recommends rice then you need a new pediatrician.

Unfortunately some doctors are not up to the times with their information and prefer to recommend according to personal beliefs. Doctors are indeed people. Victoria Ciftci your baby doesn’t have a developed gag reflux until they’re 6 months old and can sit unassisted. Unfortunately some doctors are not up to the times with their information and prefer to recommend according to personal beliefs. Doctors are indeed people. Rice cereal is empty calories and increases risks of obesity and insulin resistance. The USA clearly isn’t the best with nutrition. So much obesity and unhealthy diets here.
My daughter started spitting out food at 2 months but started eating baby food at 4 months and she's 1 now and very healthy. My son who is 4 months now know the difference and spit out and make faces with what he doesn't like. And he knows he's hungry. I follow with a 4 ounce bottle after he eats. And sometimes I don't feed him the whole can of baby food. All babies are different and you will know. Doctors use hypothesis off certain babies and they're all different.
Lil S if you justify feeding your child food at 2 months old, honestly you’re opinion is totally irrelevant. Just because you can’t see the vast health affects doesn’t mean they’re not going on in your child’s body.
Wow... poor baby. People arnt "know it alls" by disagreeing with this video. Any medical professional dealing with babies agrees that you wait till later because it can mess up their stomachs. I know your excited to feed your baby food but cmon is it worth messing up her stomach? Your pediatrician is mental if she said you can start your baby on food at this age.
