Our 1.83m Dutch Valkyrie Queen Floor Jansen can sing anything in any style she wants. She is the third and present singer of the Symphonic Metal band Nightwish and widely considered the best and most versatile female singer of our time, yet undiscovered by a broad audience. As I am a Flooraholic from Utrecht, The Netherlands, here is some more background information on her. She joined the band 'After Forever' in 1997 at the age of 16. My favourite song is 'Energize Me'. They made a very beautiful music video out of this. Floor attended the then new Rock Academy in 1999 and graduated in 2003. Later she did a year Conservatory to learn some more classical singing. 'After Forever' disbanded in 2009 and Floor started her own band 'Revamp' from scratch. Here she experimented with different vocal styles within one song, such as from full operatic to serious growls in seconds. The songs 'Disdain' and 'Wild Card' are good examples. During this time Floor also did vocal coaching and as Floor is a perfectionist she wants to do everything at 100%+. Eventually she had to pay the price and got a burnout. She had just recovered when end of september 2012 the call came from Nightwish to fill in for the remainder of the American Tour as their second singer Annette got ill. Floor had just 48 hours to learn the whole setlist. There is a documentary made of this world tour ('Please learn the setlist in 48 hours'). The lyrics of the songs of Nightwish are very poetic and the music as a whole is challenging, but Floor pulled it off and she stayed for the whole world tour, culminating in the iconic Wacken 2013 Open Air festival which set new standards in open air concerts. It was obvious that the match Nightwish and Floor Jansen was made in Walhalla, so she became a permanent member of the band in 2013 as the relationship with Annette and the band was strained even before she became ill. Floor continued to perform with 'Revamp' for a couple of years, but it became clear that she could not combine the two for much longer, so Revamp disbanded in 2016. Floor did a side project called 'Northward' where she dived into the Hard Rock scene. The song 'While Love Died' is a must see. Her stunning performances on the Dutch TV show 'Beste Zangers 2019' gave her at last some more recognition in her home country where she was relatively unknown until then. There are numerous guest appearances with other bands to find on CZcams. To see how to get a crowd of metalheads silenced and in awe, watch her featuring with the band 'Epica' and the song 'Stabat Mater Dolorosa'. And to see her in full opera mode watch her rendition of 'O Mio Babbino Caro' from Puccini. As live concerts were cancelled and home isolation due to the Covid situation, Floor discovered CZcams in the last year and uploaded many interesting videos on her channel. Mindblowing covers, chats with her idols and other singers, vocal masterclasses, personal insights and so much more. Also her 'Fan Friday' videos are hilarious. Floor Jansen is a vocal athlete with incredible range, versatility, vocal stamina, and stage presence. She is a spinto soprano with a range of almost four octaves (Eb2 to E6). When listening to her sing, it is apparent that she has spent the better part of her life fine-tuning her instrument with help from several vocal coaches. Floor can sing in multiple languages and genres and is a Master vocal coach herself. It is incredible how she is able to take any song and make it her own. This woman is a true gift to her craft and an incredible addition to a band that has always been great until 2013 when they officially hired the undisputed Queen of Metal, Floor Jansen, making Nightwish the greatest band on the planet. The show takes 7 singers from different genres of music and put them together in a resort on Ibiza. In every episode one of them is placed central and all 6 others each sing a song that has a meaning for the central placed person. That can be something he/she did perform or something with a memory to it. Because the singers are all from different genres it is possible that they have to step out their own music style comfort zone or transform a song to their comfort zone. It is no competition but just a gathering to honor each other, sharing stories and bring up memories. The 8th and last episode of the season is the fun duet show. Each singer has to choose one of the others to perform a duet.

Floor Jansen is the current lead singer for the Finnish Symphonic Metal band Nightwish. Floor Jansen can definitely sing Rock music (she even graduated from the Rock Academy [Tilburg, the Netherlands] in 2003), but almost her entire career she has been involved in metal music, even as early as age 16 (when she joined After Forever in 1997).
When After Forever disbanded in 2009, she started her own band ReVamp (which disbanded in 2016, due to her obligations towards Nightwish; she was unable to participate fully in both ReVamp and Nightwish, Nightwish is too big a band for that).
She has also done a Rock project with Jorn Viggo Lofstad (from Pagan's Mind) called Northward.
But don't be surprised if you see her as a guest vocalist with some other bands too, like for instance Ayreon / Star One.

Sir what a great reaction, I strongly encourage you to continue discovering her music, specially if you'd like to her hear with her band Nightwish. You will be amazed. She has such a versatile voice, capable of growling and then just seamlessly belt an F5 so powerful that you would not believe what you're listening to.

Today, Floor Jansen released one of her "Fan Friday" videos where she was asked if she had any Nordic ancestry. Her reply was that she was not sure, however, she knew that she was of German heritage and . . . wait for it . . . Japanese! No wonder she likes swinging a katana.
