Is the beachfront still under construction?

  • @paulocastrogarrido3499

Funchal is not in Europe, the Madeira Islands are Portuguese, but the islands are part of the African continent.

    • @thevirtualrelaxation
      @thevirtualrelaxation  Před 24 dny +1

They are on African tectonic plate, but that doesn't really make them African since they're a volcanic hotspot, not connected to any landmass. So they don't really belong to anyone geographically - it is it's own archipelago. But the island belongs to Portugal and is inhabited by Portuguese, and mostly visited by Europeans. That's why it's not wrong to call it either way. Hope this helps

@@thevirtualrelaxation they are African and part of the population are descendants of African Berbers from the Canary Islands and Morocco. The islands also continue some African traditions like the traditional costume, the bolo do caco and the coucous. Besides we mainland are not 100% European as we share some Berber DNA. The islands are officially known as a Outermost Region of the European Union and receive special funding because the islands ARE NOT in Europe and ARE NOT part of Europe, therefore your statement is incorrect. I am Portuguese, I hope this helps.

@@paulocastrogarrido3499 Sir this is not a debate, I am only stating factual information. Both things can be true at the same time.
Geographic and Political Status of Madeira:
      Geographical Location:
The Madeira Archipelago, including Funchal, is located in the North Atlantic Ocean. Although it is situated on the African tectonic plate, its geographical isolation as a volcanic hotspot means it is not connected to any other landmass on that plate.
      Political Affiliation:
Madeira is an autonomous region of Portugal. Portugal is a European country, and thus Madeira is politically part of Europe. The region is classified as an "Autonomous Region of Portugal" and is part of the European Union (EU).
      EU Status:
Madeira is classified as an "Outermost Region" of the European Union. This classification acknowledges its geographical distance from mainland Europe but does not change its political and legal status as part of Portugal and thus Europe.
      Cultural Influences:
While the population of Madeira has various cultural influences, including some from Africa due to historical trade and migration, the islands are politically and administratively integrated into Europe. Cultural elements like traditional costumes or cuisine do not alter the political affiliation of the region.
Although Madeira is geographically located on the African tectonic plate and has cultural ties influenced by African heritage, its political and administrative status is firmly within Europe. It is part of Portugal and, by extension, the European Union, and thus should be considered a European territory in terms of political and legal affiliation.
I wish you a great day!

@@thevirtualrelaxation it confirms I am right, the islands are not in Europe and your title is incorrect.

@@paulocastrogarrido3499 Madeira is politically part of Europe as it is an autonomous region of Portugal, which is a European country. The “Outermost Region” status in the EU acknowledges its geographic distance but does not change its European affiliation. So, the title is not wrong.
Funchal is the capital of Madeira, which is an autonomous region of Portugal. Portugal is a European country, so Madeira (and thus Funchal) is part of Europe politically.
