    I crossed India on a Enfield with 2 Persons and a lot of luggage in 2001. It was always,difficult to drive on the dirttrack beside the road at high speed . But, to prevent accidents, I had to do it many times . At last, you learn to drive propperly on the indian roads. If youve learned to manage that, no traffic in the world will shock you . But when I came back to Germany and drove my Bike here, I had a different style . I took every gap between cars and used the horn very much. It took a while , to get rid of indian driving style. Some still remained and will never go. Using the Horn more than unual saved my health for several times here in Germany.

      Freewheeling lawless German streets, are a recipe for an avalanche of karma. Law-abiding streets and highways might be a good gift, for little German boys and girls this Christmas. Most parents pass on the freewheeling family phenomenon. This cyclical, suicidal, city slicker syndrome is nasty for cyclists and motorcyclists.

      Over here green means nothing lol, people cross anyway so we'd be more aware at all times irrespective of the light.

    When everyone drives "like an idiot", you also expect everyone to do so. Instead of having a bunch of signs, traffic lights and rules everywhere, people communicate with each other on the road. People there know there's a lot going on so they stay focused, opposed to riding on a highway with cruise control and your eyes on your phone. From my experiences (Kerala), they tend to have a smile on their face and drive a lot less aggressively than we do in the west.

    You guys are not following the unwritten rules of driving in India... you're just driving like you can do whatever you want.
    I know Indian traffic looks like chaos, but there's a beautiful hidden dynamic behind it that you guys should pay more attention to.
    You are good drivers who might be able to narrowly escape an accident, but you're endangering a lot of lives because people aren't used to your aggressive driving and won't know how to respond.
    Second, people won't tell you any of this because they respect you as foreigners or they just don't want to interfere. Even the police. Normally this type of driving would probably get shouted/honked at.
    I know this is not Europe and you can take liberty to do whatever the fuck you want to, but just because you can doesn't mean you should. Please refrain from trying to kill any more humans... or goats.

      What are those hidden rules? Just out of my curiosity ?

    • @MultiSciGeek
      @MultiSciGeek Před 5 lety +3

      @@djwestbrook36 Don't overtake on the left, honk before overtaking, honk while overtaking, don't look into the eyes of another person about to cross you and then speed in front of them in the last split second, when you're the one making the eye contact or driving faster you have priority - the other person will look back in agreement and slow down a little to give you way, don't slow down or stop and then start driving really fast again, don't stop in general, maintain the same speed if possible, don't randomly switch lanes, use indicators, don't stop for pedestrians - slow down and drive around them, cows are holy, don't drive off the road, drive only on the road, do not speed up if you have the option to slow down, drive in a predictable manner by observing and copying others, there are invisible lines on the road, please imagine the traffic lights etc.
      Any of these rules can be broken if there's absolutely no other way to move ahead. But if there is, then they absolutely shouldn't. People will understand that.
      Usually when people drive like assholes it's because they're inpatient or because the people behind them are impatient. There's a gridlock that's happening. These guys in the video, however, drive like this for no freaking reason and it's throwing everyone off because of how random it is. There is a constant slow flow that needs to be maintained. Indian traffic is like water. These guys drive like donkeys with square wheels - stuttering, slowing down, speeding up, moving left and right all over the place. It's fucking insane. It puts others in danger.
      For reference of the "flow" I'm talking about check out this video:
      czcams.com/video/UEIn8GJIg0E/video.html

The Vestibular Structure in the inner ear creates wild thrills and cold chills, due to it's misinterpretation of our motion. Hey, how come you don't fall from the bike when climbing back to the asphalt road from the dirt. It seems like you're parallel to the bump that separates the road from the dirt path. I would expect the bike to just crash, me alonh with it. Sorry for the dumb question, I guess I know nothing about motorcycles

      I figured as much. Please if I could indulge one more comment. I have done adventures in Thailand, Greece, Italy, Turkey etc., BUT never India, and the idea of a Royal Enfield makes me very nervous. There are KTMS to rent, but not in the locations I was planning. Is it safe to say from your experience that a proper adventure bike is the ONLY safe way to transverse the road conditions I expect,..... repairs or availability aside. I see you are an expert rider, so I value what ever thought you have on this one.... thanks in advance Michael
