- Kentucky basketball just landed Koby Brea and Kerr Kriisa. two of the best shooters in college basketball.
On today's episode of Locked On Kentucky, Lance Dawe discusses Mark Pope adding Koby Brea from the Dayton Flyers and Kerr Kriisa from the West Virginia Mountaineers to the Kentucky Wildcats 2024 roster. Brea is the best three-point shooter in the nation and will be a flamethrower for Pope and the Cats. Kriisa is also an excellent outside shooter, a great passer, but can also be a bit volatile. Both of these additions are phenomenal for Kentucky basketball.

Go back and watch his highlights, he was a dude at Arizona, I remember he was talked about alot when he was there by FO68 guys and he put together a triple double where he went for 21/10/10 while at Arizona. He talks trash and is a fiery competitor. He will put it all on the floor every minute he is out there. Great pick up

I agree they laid an egg at the end of the year. But that team was so fun to watch and played at a high level at times. Plus haveing a Kentucky boy playing at such a high level
Honestly I like everyone added for next year’s roster so far. Koby Brea has an amazingly smooth game and shot. He is going to be well paid playing in the NBA or elsewhere for a long time.
Chandler or Perry are about to shock everybody…I just have a feeling…Had the same feeling with Reed and SGA
Yeah, if Travis Perry is at the bottom of your rotation, you have a DEEP roster. This isn't to say Perry is a bum or anything of the sort, but coach Pope has exceeded my expectations for what could be done on the recruiting front. It's been exciting to watch this roster come together. Now, these young men will have to lace 'em up and learn how to play as a team.

I think we definitely need to add 2-3 freshmen yet even if they’re 3 stars. Need young guys to develop for the future
Probably slim pickins for the most part at this point but it shouldn’t be hard to pick up a 2-3 star or two down the line to fill out the bench and develop over the years. And don’t forget Perry and Chandler they are both freshman. Garrison and Oweh still have a year or two as well I believe. This past week or so has been a grab what you need grab what you can while you can and they’ve done amazing at that.
We will sweep Arkansas and pope will have a monster year competing for a title💪
Someone brought up Reed Sheppard's scoring but Reed Sheppard had Rob Dillingham who averaged 14 points per game and Antonio Reeves who scored over 20 per game. Who will get Kentucky 20 points per game??????
Being that the defense is likely to be much better than last season, maybe we don't need the whole 20.

I think Arkansas will have more wins this upcoming season. I also think that Pope has put together a pretty decent squad so far and a coaching staff that is definitely better than Cal's. We'll see what happens. I am as excited for this new era as I was when we dumped Gillispie for Cal.

No room for smith, Butler’s the man at the point and it’s looking like a Kerr/Perry backup possibility. That’s why Mahaney went to UConn and we got the shooter we needed in Brea and that’s why Hawkins is at Minnesota when their first choice was Butler, who the staff went out of their way to get. I hear smith has paperwork problems anyway.

Well, this year is still one and dones. But I believe these SENIOR one and dones will be a completely different animal. Experienced full grown men, putting up their last fight to make the NBA. They can't afford to be lazy, or not listen to the coach

I'm a bit concerned now. We really need a guy that can be a go-to scorer that can get a bucket by himself. We have a lot of good catch and shoot guys, but I was really hoping for Ivy-Curry instead of Kerr. Robinson will be that if he commits, but I don't see another guard without a relationship to Pope committing now. It's getting to be a bit of a traffic jam in the back court.

Whoever says Kerr Krissa isn't a good enough player to play at Kentucky have to be casual, ignorant fans. He is literally the perfect PG for Mark pope, remember Dallin Hall?? Everybody was so eager to get him? Kerr Krissa id take over Hall all day everyday. Krissa is gonna surprise alot of people and show his elite playmaking skills, and ability to control the game. He talks trash, he was the most coveted point guard to hit the portal a year ago when he left Arizona and went to WV. He can shoot fairly well, and reminds me of a Tony parker in a way. He is eastern european and competed against luka doncic not too long ago. He is literally the epidemy of the type of point guard that you would need for an offensive system like mark pope likes to run. He is quick, and is a thread the needle type of passer. Then you add a shooter like Kobe brea? Man that could be a lethal combination for opposing teams to guard especially with dudes like Otega Oweh and the bigs to threats in the paint. Ntm Travis Perry and Collin Chandler both are lethal shooters in their own right. Lets hope chandler stays, because you put out a lineup with Krissa, Chandler/perry, Kobe brea, Otega Oweh, Andrew Carr? That is a 5 out threat offense. Then he can put out another lineup with Lamont Butler, Kobe brea, Otega Oweh, Andrew Carr/Garrison, amari Williams depending on who the opposing team is. He has a flexible roster with multiple types of lineups he can utilize. The man and his staff has killed this in just a couple of weeks. And he still has room to add a couple more dudes.

Not saying that Kriisa is a bad player, but when we already have a wholel squad a role-player types, this pickup was a head-scratcher for me. If we want to be competitive next year, we got to get 2-3 big fish who are playmakers that can go get buckets. I'm getting nervous that we haven't been able to land one yet and we are running out of roster spots.
Call pope and tell him that then. He will then tell you that you are right and do exactly what you said, and acknowledge your brilliant basketball mind.
No such thing as play makers in purity. They become those type of players by the system in which play. The system dictates a play maker. Pope is a 3 first spread d system. His play makers are shooters. Iso made lebron fast brake etc.. in a outside in system he wouldn't have been that guy. Driving players aren't always play makers

They will actually be running an offensive system this year with coaching. Cal just threw the ball on the floor and had them play. Under his system you had to have the best players make it work. That’s why the last 9 years he had little success because he wasn’t getting all the best talent anymore..

Testing the NBA waters is basically players going and working out for different NBA teams to get feedback on whether they're good enough to play in the NBA right now. Or just to get feedback about what area's they need to work on and improve in to be a NBA draft pick in the next year's draft

UK’s top ranked transfer is 23rd. For a season that is 99% dependent on the transfer portal, I'm starting to worry a bit.
Out of the 8 total transfers, just 3 are ranked in the top 50 for UK’s class.
While West Virginia is getting studs like Javon Small (top 10) and Tucker DeVries (top 3), Kentucky is getting Kerr Kriisa (not ranked inside the top 100).
If winning the recruiting rankings battle based on the recruiting websites is your jam then you probably loved Cal. Under Pope id think it makes sense to give him room to evaluate based on talent + ethos + roster composition fit. This might mean not having the #1 ranked class while getting the best unit.
I was really hoping Pope would go after Smalls.
he’s got great pieces that FIT TOGETHER. Brea doesn’t have to be a great defender, he’s got 3 around him. Butler doesn’t have to be a great shooter, he’s got shooters around him. These 1v1 bucket getters may rank high, but they may not provide value in the spot you need from them and whatever baggage that comes with them. Overall, before brea and kriisa even committed uk was already ranked #3 in team transfer portal rankings. What more do you want? They got 2 lights out shooters, a ton of defense, a ton of experience and toughness, guys that can spot up, post up, slash, and get to the rim in transition, a 6-10 4 spot that shoots 37% from deep to spread the floor and an overall offensive threat and guys that can rebound and pass and take care of the ball. Everybody has a specific role. They’re all really GREAT at what they are there for.

Bc u already have everything else lol Post presence, defense, rebounding, rim runners, open spot up shooters, veteran leadership, muscle, etc. Those guys are going to have just a couple basic jobs: run your spot in the offense and pass to open man or shoot the 3 when you get the ball, and then guard the corner/weakest link on defense. Butler, oweh, and Williams are locks on d. Carr will be very versatile. Garrison off the bench? Could be a big year for him and maybe he even develops into the starter at the 5. We didn’t need small. We got championship game experience at the point and dpoy. I don’t know what people are failing to understand. Brea shoots 83%efg and Kerr 75%efg both on catch and shoot, #1 and #2 in the country! Who gives a rats behind what they are ranked as long as they hit anywhere close to those numbers!!! Hell they can look at the Evan mya defensive rankings if it makes them feel better, 3 or 4 of them were all top 20 guys or something I mean what more do you want? What more can the man do that he hasn’t already? Pull Reed Sheppard out of the draft and throw a white and blue 15 jersey on him and yell “play, boy!” ????

Cal cant coach. He had the #1 recruiting class for 8 out of 9 years and could not win a national title at KY. With all that talent, it proves it.
You guys are easily impressed if you think we can win with these role players. There is no Johnell Davis, AJ Storr Or Kadary Richmond to score a basket when you need one.
Except that time Butler hit the game-winning shot while holding Davis to two of nine and terrible numbers the last time those two played against each other resulting in Butler shooting his team San Diego State into the final four n Davis being eliminated. That's just one example I could go on

All I see is role players. Not one player averaged over 13 points a game. We have no one who can go out and get Kentucky a bucket down two with ten seconds left. I wanted Cal gone more than anyone but I am not impressed with team full of guys who avereaged 9 to 13 points a game.

If 9 players make 9 points per game that can still equal 80 points at most or 40+ if only half of them do well. Can they shoot free throws is my only consern.
