    I got the Deus 2 after using the AT Pro with a Tornado and Sharpshooter coils for 5 years. I’ve found a lot of good stuff with it. Deus is exactly what I needed to continue learning and getting better as a relic Hunter. Could have used a Deus a few years ago but I’m glad I waited until 2 came out. I love it.

I've had the sd2300, gm1000, gpx5000, equinox 800, obviously it's a PI so I can only compare it to the sdc2300 so fat the axiom punches deeper and is better with hotrocks. Too often people set these detectors up to 'beep' on a target but there is no way you could hunt with them and the settings they have dialed up. Oh i miss my White's! trying to get a handle on the Vanquish 540. Definetely deep but they took the VDI section and halved it from what White's was displaying. I will get their. I would hold off and get the vanquish 540. I personally don't have a lot of cash and research like mad before a purchase. My last detector was a no namer foreign detector with a massive 14 inch coil and it actually worked brilliantly, but on getting the vanquish 540 I am finding far smaller targets.
      Actually the hardest part of using the vanquish 540 early on was thinking it was picking up false targets because I couldn't even see some of them.
      I am using vanquish with larger coil and on relic mode.
      I watch a lot of videos on detecting and obviously the pro people use the high end stuff but I have seen a lot of them give good reviews on the vanquish 540.

    Great review, Merrill. I own the Deus 2. I am deeply satisfied with it. My proof of it's performance is in all the silver I am pulling out of fields that have been hit hard with a Nox 800 and a Deus 1 for the last 18 months. These fields have been gridded multiple times and in different directions and are full of iron nails. The Deus 2 is still pulling coins out at depth. The Nox is a very, very good machine but unfortunately, my bum shoulder was the reason I went with the XP. Pricey? Yes, but shoulder surgery would be pricier if I continued to aggravate it with a heavy machine like the Nox. Everyone has their own checklist when it comes to purchasing merchandise. The Deus 2 price point is tough to swallow, but it checked almost all the boxes for me. And it will continue to get better as XP fine tunes things.

    Hello, this video puts a lot in perspective. Taking the time to do things really right takes time and careful thought. You have done both. I own the Nokta Anfibio, Deus 2 and the White V3i . Just wondering why you don't own or test any Whites...please be straightforward I can take it lol. Thanks !

      I own a beach hunter 300 and love it. I was having problems on the test day because the coil got broken in my trunk. I got a replacement since. But my full thoughts are written about it on my website www.iratemetaldetectors.com/

    I'm returning to the hoppy and not so sure if I would buy the Legend over the Anfibio. I'm mostly a coin shooter at old parks, schools and permissions. However I do live right on Lake Erie and have miles of beaches to go to. My question is, Do you believe the Legend is a slam dunk buy over the Anfibio, or is it close? Thanks for your reply

    • @MetalDetectingNYC
      @MetalDetectingNYC  Před 2 lety

      I struggled with the Anfibio. It’s depth is exquisite but it is a high maintenance detector in terms of learnjng curve. Plus it is one frequency at a time. I would go legend over Anfibio. I have reviews on both at iratemetaldetectors.com

      Honestly, I buy and test metal detectors that I see being used by others on CZcams and live in parks and beaches. I own one bounty hunter detector. They are very entry level. Other companies have moved in to simultaneous multi frequency (Minelab, Nokta, Garrett, XP). Even Fisher has made an advanced pulse device. Bounty Hunters would get obliterated. Please forgive my bluntness. I do not mean it to be rude. Their business model seems to be entry level detectors with entry level prices. This is all self bought so I have to draw the line somewhere.

    Only one comment I have really. Great job by the way. I do notice the machines with slower recovery(older in most cases) are not doing as good in this test. Hitting but not great. One mistake people often make is thinking lower reactivity is better for depth, and it is but ONLY in clean ground. Meaning no other targets within the coil width. This is pretty dirty ground so a lower recovery speed may not always be better. Targets may bleed into each other during your swing, as in before one target sounds off you're hitting the next which can corrupt the tones. I know the Legend may have been set too low for those conditions, the NOX I'm not sure about. The vanquish doesn't have recovery but it does have adjustable iron bias which may have helped it out. The D1 was sketchy with iron buzz but I don't know a lot about them and the D2 sounded bad up close and amazing far away which was weird. The older minelabs were mostly disappointing but I don't know much about those either. Now the problem with everything I said above is......while I'm sure some machines can be tuned in to hit a KNOWN target.......how will they fair if you just turn them on in a strange location with unknown targets in the ground? That's why I prefer most machines be tested in the stock modes first and then adjusted afterward. That way newbies know what they're getting and experienced hobbyists know what they're getting. Either way this was a great test.

    Hi Merril, I got the Legend based on the rating you gave it on your website and I like it very much, Thank you for that. I also got my hands on a Manticore about 2 month ago based on the hype is it getting and so far I am not very impressed. I have not found anything over 6 inches deep with Manticore. I also do not see you using it on your videos very often anymore. Do you still think it is a great detector?

    You raised the real question about value for money relating to detectors. I would raise another issue and that is build quality, especially relating to the nox. When you consider the cost of these units, you would expect the coil attachment point, the arm cuff and shift lock mechanism to be solid and robust. I see so many detectorists having to buy after market parts to reinforce minelad's design or replacing parts from other brands, simply because the nox appears to have some build design faults. This is not a rant against minelab as I have all minelab products, but the newer stuff appears to have dropped in but quality.......Your thoughts?

      @KenLord Před 2 lety

      I don't have a nox, but it sure seems common among the nox youtubers for the battery / charging system to go wonky.
      As a Garrett user, it's all about the cracked coils. gotta be so careful around rocks. And a cracked coil can potentially fry the electronics... But they do have great customer service, they fixed my AT Max when I went through this, replacing the coil and board for free, despite it being a couple months past warranty.

    Hi Merrill. As a Simplex user my best, most productive searches - in fields and pastures - seem to be with Park1 and iron off as there's not a great density of targets/pollution where I go.
    It's slower recovery than Park2 which I'd use in trashy places or gardens to coin shoot.
    On the Park1 test you did, going on the VDI with iron on, I would not dig it: the low numbers would make me think it's iron. When you took off the iron the variable VDI would make me think it's foil left by farmers or hunters. However if I had a good-lock on the signal and not much going on I might dig but it would be 50-50 (depending on the patch beforehand). I think the Simplex is very capable having got hundreds of coins in 2 years, but now, although we don't have Mercury Dimes in France, I do wonder how many good targets I walked away from.
    P.S. Btw, I believe that it's only on all-metal (or beach?) mode that you need to ground balance and there's no Field 3.

  • @capecoddiggerzmetaldetecti5718

    I been messing around trying to get more depth with my Nox 600 and Vanquished, I missed a fugio cent that was in a spill that my buddy got, was about 12" deep, he uses the Nox 800. So I started looking for possible other deep coins I may have missed in same spot, tried even using the largest coil with no luck, went back to stock coil on Nox600 and did manage to pull a Liberty Cap Half Cent but just barely got it, there is lots of nails in this spot as believe a building stood there at one point. So definitely interested in wich machine can get those deep coins as alot of them are the older and valuable coins 😍 thanks for your info on these machines 👍

    Great tests but the simplex in park modes respond better with a quicker swing due to the faster recovery speed, bet the simplex would’ve smacked it better with a faster tighter swing, the simplex competes with some of the best, sometimes outperforms in the right hands!
