I know this isn’t what Taylor probably meant when she wrote the wrong but I think this song applies beautifully to the people who daydream as a coping mechanism/maladaptive daydreamers.
„I’m lonely but I am good.I’m bitter but I swear I am fine. I save all my romanticism for my inner life.” She perfectly captured how we get disappointed with reality and it’s easier to live in our fantasies when all our love stories feel like kdramas with a happy ending.
As a 50 year old, I was a fan of a lot of artists in my younger years and have followed their careers, studied their lyrics, and watched them grow as I grew. I never imagined that I would find an artist this late in life that inspired me as much as Taylor has. She is the greatest storyteller and songwriter of our time and possibly of all time. She has a special talent for capturing "the moment" of falling in love, betrayal, disappointment, heartbreak, sadness, anxiousness, forgiveness, and healing. Wow how lucky we are to have her in this world. I hate it hear a little less because of you Taylor.
as a maladaptive daydreamer, I've never felt this understood and seen. this song is for us who hates the reality we're in wherein daydreaming is the only way to get us by
@@sarahwagland1559 Though I agree, that trying to live vs daydream is better. The way you said it, isn't really nice or conducive to helping this person.
"I hate it here so I will go to secret gardens in my mind" totally relate to this line when you at your lowest so you retreat to that comfort space as a place to isolate from reality for a while
Never has somebody put depression so simply yet described is so perfectly. I hate it here. I have for years. I just want the pain to end so I escape into my mind, but the past wasn’t kind either. I hate it here.
I've been there, wrong job, wrong city, constantly under threat, and a narcissist birth family since childhood. Oddly, the thing that got me away from all that was getting hit by a car and becoming disabled. Basically, I lost everything, then more, and had to rebuild my life from zero.
"I hate it here so I will go to secret gardens in my mind" as someone living with depression this is what I always do using and music and books and writing to escape reality
Since the lockdown... I haven't been the same. One day I suddenly couldn't leave the house. I'm turning 30 this year, and I have no job, almost no friends, and this song broke me. Because, ironically, I'm a finance guy. I did study finances and banking. Taylor... You expressed so well what I couldn't
Take small baby steps. Go out on the porch. Then the end of the drive etc. small victories are still victory right? In time you’ll realize you’re outside again. Trust in yourself that you know what to do. ❤
Damn... the song that made me burst out crying was "I Look in People's Windows" because the first time I ever saw my husband was 19 years ago through his mom's kitchen window, he was looking back at me. Funnily I found out later that he was looking at me through my bedroom the night before. Sounds creepy but it was extremely romantic to me at the time. That song took me back to the moment I locked eyes with him; I could picture it. To add, we were long distance after that for a year so the "if-only", "south, south" and "northbound" lines really got me as well. Basically the whole song felt like it was written for me in a way... isn't it crazy that songs can do that for us? Anyways, I hope you find happiness again finance guy ❤
Oh my, your comment reflects the things I'm going through in my life now. I'm younger and I haven't made a career but I'm certainly facing the same: isolation, loneliness, and frustration for not finding a purpose in life. I didn't cry with this song but that doesn't mean it didn't strike a nerve. Taylor is so gifted to write such poetic and touching lyrics and that's why I love her so much. She's such a comforting angel and significant inspiration for lost souls like mine 🥹 I just hope you can overcome those struggles someday. You're still so young and I'm quite sure you can get better ❤️🩹 Have you tried to see a therapist? I'm seeing one now and trying to trust that eventually I'm gonna get out of the void 🩶

I see some people saying they are underwhelmed by this album, but I can’t comprehend how. The style of it is different and more raw than any of her other albums. She shows us all of her emotions, and I’m literally in love with it.
@@GimmeTeaCaroline Well... it's called "Tortured Poets Department" for a reason. It's bound to be steeped in emotions and it is. Her lyricism and music in this album is reminiscent of Folklore. I struggle with depression and have social anxiety, life can get pretty bad/hurtful, so I like to live in my daydreams, I look forward to dreaming every night, it's my way of escaping reality, if I could stay there I would, but even if not, it does kinda help me to keep on going in this life, it helps me not to end things. this was very relatable.
Btw in your opinion how did an average tall skinny guy like Joe Alwyn bedded a woman like Taylor for some time? Given that she was both older and richer than him. Also in your opinion which lady allows facials and/or swallows for her man between Amanda Seyfried and Taylor Swift? Given that they are both friends and that Amanda is a mom and Tay had younger dudes. Also in your opinion do the ladies eat garlic and onion sometimes? Perhaps to troll their man before a date and/or to avoid segs later that night? hehe Given that Tay likes to cook. So given that its all speculative, answer it, don`t be snowflakes.
I teared up listening to this. This song makes me realise why I always daydream and have made up people in my mind since I was 11. Because I was lonely.
Taylor Swift is singing a poetic romantic folk song "I hate it here" with acoustic folk guitars and heavenly strings, with some little notes on piano in the coda. It's really a track for "the tortured poets". The image of her record is beautiful. Taylor is like a dancing artist. I love this song.

I've been a Taylor Swift fan since I was a little girl. Now that I'm in my twenties I still feel the same way I did back then while listening to her songs: like she read my mind and turned my thoughts into melodies. Her songwriting skills are top tier, and honestly so underrated. TTPD, especially the second part, is truly her best work in terms of lyrics. This song is for the writers and the dreamers, those who escape realty creating a different one, like she does. Truly beautiful
I can relate to this with my depression which causes me to isolate myself or crave my dark bedroom at times. Not always, but when the world is too stressful and frustrating.
not sure if i’m the only one who made this connection but at 3:01 when she says: ‘I hate it here to I will go to Secrets gardens in my mind People need a key to get to The only one is mine I read about it in a book When I was a precocious child’ I’m pretty sure she’s talking about the book “The Secret Garden” Where a little girl goes to live with her uncle and finds a secret garden outside. She later finds a key to unlock it and it becomes her own secret garden she can escape to. I guess Taylor read that book before and referenced it in this song?
The best part is that the garden is part of what heals her. Even as a method of escape she meets friends and finds joy and color returns to her face and I love that book so much
This how I interpret this song: The song means about how she hates how society is now so she daydreams about another place. She doesn’t like the people surrounding bcuz of how they r behaving towards her so she keeps her to herself and fantasies. Taylor really captures about how often we hate reality because of the people or how we are destroying the earth which makes us feel guilty in the inside.

This is the song in the TTPD album that I can relate to the most. I am suffering with anxiety, PTSD, and quarter life crisis. This world is so cruel and life is so unfair so during my free time and before I go to sleep, I would usually daydream of a utopian society. Sometimes we need fantasy to survive reality.
Placating is a pattern of communication in which people will say or do something just to please others or to keep them from getting upset. Going along with the crowd is easier for people with low self-esteem. They are afraid to do or say anything that might call negative attention to themselves.
I relate to this song more than any other song on this album because I daydream all the time to get away from my anxiety that just clouds my mind every minute of every day ❤
This song just gets me... I feel like I can understand Taylor's minds and thoughts. Listening this song makes me cry but what a beautiful consolable song!!! Thank you T...

@@frerardenthusiasmwhy we can’t have a taste in music now?
She's singing out my mind, matches exactly how i feel❤🎉😢
I adore this song so much! I love when she does these stream of consciousness songs that just flow. It's so beautiful!
I love this song with all my heart 🤧
"Secret Garden" is a children's book written by Frances Hodgson Burnett, which was published in newspapers froom 1910-1911!!!!!!!
Why she heals me every single time I hear her😊
guys, don't forget " block out 2024"
I CAN TELL THAT THIS IS ONE OF MY FAVORITE SONGS ON THE ALBUM SO FAR🥺🤍
beautiful song.
Love you Taylor. Don't listen to all those haters out there.
Yupp🫶🏻😌
My favourite TTPD song. I feel this way all the time. I find so much comfort in this. I'm going to live in my fantasies and inner life now 😂
Placating is a pattern of communication in which people will say or do something just to please others or to keep them from getting upset. Going along with the crowd is easier for people with low self-esteem. They are afraid to do or say anything that might call negative attention to themselves.
I relate to this song more than any other song on this album because I daydream all the time to get away from my anxiety that just clouds my mind every minute of every day ❤
OMG I LOVE YOUR MUSIC!
She's a gift to music & the world ❤
This song just gets me... I feel like I can understand Taylor's minds and thoughts. Listening this song makes me cry but what a beautiful consolable song!!! Thank you T...
When I was hearing this for the 100th time I saw it was made 13 days ago😂😂😂
I feel like my brain wrote this song
"I'll save all my romanticism for my inner life." amplified, is what this song is.♥️♥️ I like how contradictory titles she gives to songs which sound completely opposite to the titles.😅😅
This song reminds me of a game called “omori” it follows a boy who traps himself in his own mind after he loses someone close to him. It tells an amazing story I would really recommend it
The lyrics 👁❤👽
If Taylor Swift replied to me comment right now i will literally cry because i have been a Taylor Swift fan ever since i was 2. The first song i ever knew was better man and it made me cry when u played better man at the eras tour. You are my idol. And thanks to my aunt for getting me into Taylor Swift. You have relatable songs to a 15 year old girl, i have been though a lot of stuff when you where young. The most relatable song u made is the moment i knew. We all love u sooo much- your youngest swiftie to Taylor Swift🫶🏻🫶🏻🫶🏻
Who ever didn’t come from TikTok, is allowed to like this…
Tiktok is too brain rotted to even be offended by a single inoffensive line
Stoppp😭 you're on every video
pov: me listening to this song as I walked to school today
CZcams literally recommending me this while I am crying.
" I hate it here " So, movies, dramas, and songs are everything in my life healing me to survive at least, they are my "secret gardens".
Perfect music.
Me at school:
