‘Amongst the Bushes’, sees Sydney newcomer Acacia drop a promising debut, and a refreshing new take on the D’n’B and post-club EDM movements, applying a distinctly Australian perspective to his lush electronic productions.
Growing up on the coast of NSW, Acacia’s ‘Amongst the Bushes’ not only tells the story of various stylistic genres fusing and developing but also of a childhood spent between the vast Australian bushland and the sunny beaches of Coffs Harbour; a uniquely Australian coming of age story captured through the familiar sounds of the native flora and fauna.
Centred around finding a grey area between conventional electronic music and something natural, Acacia aims to explore the relationships between various electronic sub-genres spanned throughout the EP; from avante garde and field recordings to D’n’B breaks and hip hop beats, ‘Amongst the Bushes’ will be sure to capture the attention of any fans of Floating Points, Rival Consoles or Shlomo. Through Acacia’s combination of the natural with the mechanical, ‘Amongst the Bushes’ casts a vibrant sonic image, as if the audience may have stumbled into a mystical club while hiking through the deep forest.
