It was a year where many big players like Brock and Goldberg had gone and the roster really reflects this.

Yeah The original SvR is just a blast to play also I love the Royal Rumble in this game where damage actually means something instead of meaning nothing in the previous WWE games before this one.

Ah yes. The birth of my favorite WWE video game series. I can’t tell you how much I miss it and how many memories it has gave me. Memorable soundtracks that defined my music taste, memorable multiplayer moments with my family, legendary rosters with each game, awesome creation suites, legendary season modes, beautiful stages, and lastly the fact that a lot of these games took place during my favorite era, the ruthless aggression era. I will forever love this game for starting it all, despite some flaws it has. Long live SmackDown Vs Raw!
This game is a classic.
The graphics were probably one of my favorite parts about the game. Yukes did an awesome job when I came to improving the graphics. I'd say they still hold up.

It was a tradition to have a new Smackdown game during the fall. Here Comes The Pain came out on October 27th 2003, so Yukes definitely wouldn't have the time to develop Smackdown vs Raw before Wrestlemania XX.
The main reason this game isn't remembered as fondly is because HCTP set the bar so high. This is a really decent game, killer soundtrack and awesome graphics

This game was the best of SYM and HCTP. The list of legends was better with actual entrances instead of coming out on the cart. The presentation was cleaned up and for the first time ever we had actual voices in the game. And the season mode was phenomenal. This game doesn't get the credit it deserves.

I wouldn't say the season was phenomenal. Compared to here comes the pain and especially svr 2007 the story is extremely limited and there's pretty much no branching paths too. The roster was so small too. Svr 2008's roster was small but at least in that game had a better legends roster and less jobbers on the small roster like svr did. And with everything removed from hctp it's easy to see why people didn't like or were dissapointed in this game.

smackdown vs raw had the most badass intro ever!
The one thing I do have criticize about the entrances in this game is the audio that was used entrances introductions, Lilian Garcia sounds like she's announcing in the bathroom and Tony Chimel sounds like he just woke up from a nap.
I like the soundtrack in the game purely because it had Breaking Benjamin.

That laughting at 6:35 really scared the shit out of me.
This game was also the beginning of the new era in WWE the top guys like Austin and rock were gone and guys like Cena and Orton were starting to take over for a fan at the time trying to get used to that was difficult and this game reflected the growing pains IMO

SvR was a favourite of mine, I know a lot of people had some issues with it
To me, no other wrestling game strikes the nostalgia chord like this one does, and that's entirely because it was the first mainstream title to feature online play. Even though it was only one on one, normal matches (I played bra and panties maybe five times during that entire year), had no stat tracking, constantly froze, the community was 80% cheap pieces of shit (compared to 98% today) and the game itself was basically HCTP v1.5, I *still* consider it a fucking masterpiece.
Best controls hands down, arcade style works so well.

The game was dispointing because it followed up Smackdown Here Comes tHe Pain. Smackdown Here Comes the Pain was such a great game that you couldn't follow it up. And that's when I felt WWE games went downhill. Smackdown vs. Raw 2006 was much better.
No SVR was better than all wrestling games that followed it minus FPW returns
The lack of Stone Cold physically hurts to acknowledge.
Never bought the game for that reason. Bad enough he couldn't wrestle on tv anymore, but not being able to play as him in a video game was an insult.
Also no Brock Lesnar nor Goldberg even though they appeared in wrestlemania 20 in 2004
@@rickyrosay33977 I don't know what happened to Goldberg when he won the match against Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania XX (20). Brock Lesnar left the WWE and he went to the NFL short barely before he entered the UFC.
The follow up, SvR06, is my vote for best wrestling game ever. The original is ok I just remember that it's the only SD game I never got. All the others I got on release day. 06 looked straight next gen. I didn't know the ps2 could produce that level of graphics.
*This game also features one of the best Retro Rock models in any wrestling game to date right next to WWE '13 and WWE 2K14. The next generation Retro Rock models are terrible.*

SvR 2006 got me back into wrestling games..never got around to this one..i hated tha you couldn't Change attires lol..never played anymore after 2008..but i love 2 k14 👍

+hitek9wittafulclip eh there is a lot I prefer about older ones, mainly hctp....the old games felt like a wrestling fighting game/party games. the new ones feel like a wrestling simulation, which is fine but isn't as fun. I can play 2k16 but not more for than like an hour, I get bored with the slow plottingness of it.
+Wrestling With Blaker 2k16 is a improvement. as somebody who waited and easy excited for 2k15, it was trash. Literally no creation tools, almost no customization, it was just vanilla and boring. 2k16 yeah fine, I give that game a pass it's okay it's a step toward the right direction. but 2k15? waste of money

1:44 I agree with you as one of things that makes PG wrestling hard to work with is that it can heavily alienate curtain audiences, those who prefer a family-friendly programming would be fine it while those who prefer a gritty programming won't take too nicely.

This game had the best intro and best presentation ever in my opinion.
I remember finishing the season mode twice:
1: JBL road to wrestlemania and winning the WWE championship
2: i completed the season mode again as WWE champion JBL and never lost the belt once.
On standard default difficulty.

Over time I actually started to like this game. One thing that really bugged me is the momentum gage, it was ridiculously huge so when you play Royal Rumble or Elimination Chamber it's pretty distracting.
Literally my only complaint about this game. You can't remove it either. Other than that this is a top 5 game!

Im planning to get SVR 05 for the pure fact that I want to check out the game for season mode and the gameplay. alot of ppl have mixed reactions to this game but I feel like I may enjoy it I'm hoping to order this game soon when I get the time on Ebay.

To no fault of the developers a ton of top superstars were gone at this time. Rock, Stone Cold, Brock Lesnar, Goldberg, Kevin Nash, and Steiner were all gone. They were replaced by Renee Dupree, Lance Cade, and Mark Jindrak LOL

I don't know if it's just me, but these graphics look a bit better than the current 2K series. As much as I enjoy 2K14 (and still play it regularly), these old SvR graphics from 10+ years ago held up very well (aside from the wonky body movements). Plus the camera angles were pretty good (until 2010); in the 2K series, they have this annoying side view shit & the ref always get in the way when you're at the upper corners. I don't have every WWE game, but own enough to see a difference between the different generations during the 3D era. I'd say late 90s/N64 era had the most innovation and fast-paced action, the early-mid 2000s had decent action, better graphics, but varying degrees of quality between the systems (PS2 had the best, Gamecube had a few gems, and Xbox had shit). The mid-late 2000s started to fall off with the SvR series because they got too simulation & slower paced (and lots of modes being taken away because of PG bullshit). By the early-mid 2010s (current), we have the 2K series which is either good one year or shitty the next year. Instead of spending in-game money, we actually need to spend REAL life money on DLC. Plus a WHOLE lot of bugs and glitches that I've never seen so common in wrestling games.

This game is so easy, even on the hardest difficulty. You can win basically any match by standing on the outside and hangmanning your opponent on the top rope, charging up your metre and hitting your finisher. Rinse and repeat until you win

The dudleys had a badass theme music back then and they had an alternative Babyface entrance because they were heel at the time and Chris Jericho who was Babyface at the time his original entrance was Babyface but he did have an alternative heel entrance
Between this and svr 2007 these were some of the best video game soundtracks besides saints row 2 but that's a different game

Great game.
This game was very disappointing when I first bought it at the time. There wasn't much to do online besides singles and bra and panties matches, create a wrestler sucked, season mode wasn't that interesting, and not much was improved from here comes the pain other than better gameplay, better graphics and some new features that were hit and miss. It's still a good game to play but it doesn't have that replay value like the previous Smackdown games. And to be honest, this game was when I felt the Smackdown games lost their momentum.

Honestly, I've never cared for this game. I remember when it came out feeling like it was a step back. 2004 was a weird transitional year for the WWE and it really shows in this game. Brock and Goldberg both left, Austin retired and Rock was full on Hollywood by this point. The roster felt like it was gutted. It was a big deal to see Bret in the game I do remember that. It was also sandwiched in-between 2 far better games imo, which makes it forgettable to me. I went back to playing HCTP because even then I considered it a way better game.
