I play this song when I visit my relatives at St. Raymond's Cemetery. It brings back fun memories from when I was a kid with my family and I and 44yrs old. I loved watching my family enjoy themselves and and dancing.
I’m German , and I love this song. I have Puerto Rican pride somewhere I’m me!!!!
There was a movie theater in Oakland called the Plaza, that showed mexican movies. They would play this version during the intermission. When I first heard Santana's version I thought about the Plaza (its still there but boarded up) those were the days.
For a long, long time, I thought Santana recorded it originally.
But after looking up the song on Wikipedia, I've discovered
that it was first done by the late Tito Puente(1939-2000)
and his orchestra back in 1962, and covered by Santana, eight years later.
Both versions are fantastic and I even do my cover of it,
solo and with a couple of bands I'm active in.
Many have sang this song , but its only the version of tito puente that gives me this feeling
Sorry, but Santana version gives me this feeling too, only with a more rockin' feel. Original or not it's still music and can be as good!

The moment when you realise all the good Santana songs are actually covers
Also "Evil Ways' originally recorded by Willie Bobo.
'Black Magic Woman' originally recorded by Fleetwood Mac

He's a graduate of Julliard on the trombone. But in his days, he was in his culture. He even proposed to my mom in the days. What a brag!
Carlos stayed very true to this original recording. Almost note for note.
Classicaso 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻
This is AWESOME.
So lovely and beautiful
Santana did a good job keeping with the original
wow so this is the original.
Buena salsa ❤
Heard this on a Big Floppa meme and now its stuck in my head 😹😹
Am I the only one who thought the Santana version was the original?
No you aren't. So did I. I learned Santana's was a cover just today when I looked up this song on Wikipedia.

My Music Instructor at Solano Community College Professor Mikolajcik brought me here 🙌🏽🎶📚
Viva cuba carajo
Jam of jams.
I first heard this song in Carlos Santana's recording, which I didn't care for. This is WORLDS better! This has the real Latin spirit.
Bet alot of people or Santana fans don't know Santana covered Tito Puente.
🎺🎺🎺
Juvenile sample this beat on Follow Me Now

I,m 56 and one night at work I was listening to classic rock and Santana,s version came on.my younger coworker ask me about the song.i mentioned about Santana you about the supernatural album but didn't know about this song.he said that,s Santana really? I said that it's a cover I had an idea about the original song and heard it before.i wasn't sure that Tito Puente did it.i don't speak Spanish but I believe the song starts how are you or how,s it going? And the reply is i,m fine thanks.somebody help me with an English translation please?
Oye Como Va = How's it going (or, this is how it goes)
Mi ritmo = My rhythm
Bueno pa gosar (sp?) = Good for having fun
Mullata = a woman of mixed race background (this is who the singer is talking to, and she can DANCE!)
(something close to that)
Who wrote this song?
OUI

Oye mulatita (girl)

Santana was basically the equivalent of a TikTok guitarist. Fleetwood Mac's Peter Green wrote Black Magic Woman. Clarence Henry and Willie Bob were the originators of Evil Ways.

Ra enak wong kene mlaku ning omahku dewe koyok di perlakukke ra bener bading pencapaiane pejabat Indonesia kene resiko mati .
I'm one of those for whom Santana was my gateway into Tito Puente having been a big fan of his version of "Oye Como Va" (while not knowing that his was a cover, not his original composition) from since I was a child/adolescent. Then, independently, I discovered Tito via a performance he did for one of the '80s/'90s late night talk shows (either Letterman or Conan) and instantly fell in love with his music. Not long afterward was when I learned that he was the originator of "Oye Como Va"
I love this version equally as much as Santana's version.
According to a radio doco featuring Tito Puente Jr, his father not only didn’t mind that Santana cover was a monster smash but the royalty cheques were the cherry on top😊
This is the god chosen . Tito puente is the king of salsa . Long live the king . Here and in heaven . Amen 🙏🏼 🇵🇷🙌🏻
Timeless. Eternal . Tito 4 ever
He’s not the originator of (Evil Ways) either Willie Bobo is, check him out. I still love Carlos Santana, he’s a favorite of mine. Tito Puente was the man.
Saludos.
