Diving The Nordby Wreck - Raiatea, french Polynesia

  • The Nordby sank in 1900, very close to shore inside the Raiatea Lagoon.
    It seats within 60 to 90ft, and is home to many species of nudibranchs. Only saw two species, but new ones we didn't see before in french polynesia.
    After the infinite visibility of the Tuamotu, the Nordby wreck looks more like a green water / low visibility type of dive, but it was still very cool, especially discovering the air bubble, trapped since the boat sand so long ago. Was weird to "surface" at 70ft under water... Didn't dare to remove the regulator!
    Note: Finding the wreck is easy if you pick up the proper mooring ball, black one closest to shore. The other two aren't far but are not directly attached to the wreck, so if visibility is really poor, it is search-and-rescue practice finding for the boat...
