    If you want to still use the ground just substitute a longer bolt with a couple of nuts, one to lock down the wincamp adapter and one for the ground wire

    Being aluminium looks like they also incorporated a fix for the 817/ 818 power issue, where it can burn out a track and fail to power up when used often with a PA or transverter as excessive negative current is directed via the track in question unless you bond the negative side of the power lead to the chassis.

    I also have the 818 and bought the wind camp battery with the charging cover but I decided not to buy the other 2 items . For the power pole adapter, it'll draw a small current from the power source even if the radio is off, but the connector is connected to DC power that's on. For the tray, it's nice but I found a laptop fold out legs at Oomomo Japan Living, $2.75 for a pack of 2. I stuck one under the front bottom and it works very well (I did the same to my Xiegu radios as well). And they fold flat when not used and have a low profile. It didn't raise as high as this tray, but then I have another stand (a tablet stand) that can do that if I need more height. Thanks

    You can safely run full power output (5/6w from the internal battery. You simply have to manually push the PWR button - it will select full power, and if the voltage is lower than the expected 12VDC on the rear DC port, it will flash the power indicator - but this is FINE! Enjoy full power on the internal battery! 73

      I'll check it out. Apparently the manual is wrong and was never fixed - more testing and a video to come!

    As an old FT817ND owner, have all those. The internal battery starts to lose its capabilities after a while. A MUST HAVE though for Phone ops is a SSB voice compression adapter/mod. Several people make it. It makes the 5W (or in your case 6W) stand out. Measurable difference. Best bang for the buck. The mods are typically $50-$80.

    I had this battery pack for a long time. Works fine, but makes me wish the transceiver had this built in as standard.
    Maybe in 2030 Yaesu will come out with the FT-819 which will have as a new innovation a built in LiFe battery and a USB-C charging port. The rest of the device will be unchanged.

    Great video. I am glad you mentioned how their stuff always works individually, but it seems that they just cannot get their stuff to work together. Maybe they are just leaving something for us to do/modify.
    The closest thing to an absolute miss, in my opinion, is the Power Pole adapter. Yes, you lose the ground (I just drilled a hole in the one of the "ears" sticking out, and the Z817 has a ground lug). But the power pole connectors are facing the data cables. (One of these days I'm going to make an adapter that to the rear, but I never seem to have the time.)

    I actually tried 3D printing the power pole adapter but the power cable that came with my 818 didn't fit the connector. I think Yaesu changed suppliers with the power cable around the end of 2022 and now it doesn't quite fit the design.

    • @temporarilyoffline
      @temporarilyoffline  Před rokem +1

      It's an odd sized connector for sure.

    • @JonathanKayne
      @JonathanKayne Před rokem +1

      @@temporarilyoffline it's not that the connector is oddly sized, it's that the shape of the plastic around the plug is slightly bulkier so it doesn't fit inside the 3D print. The older connectors were rectangular while the new ones are more teardrop shaped.

      just like that but only smaller, i did figure out that the 15 amp and 30 amp power poles are comparable with each other. so the wind camp has to be in the 15-30 amp range. im just going to pick up a bunch of power pole stuff (the real stuff not the knock off) and proceed to power pole connect everything in sight 😁@@temporarilyoffline

    • @temporarilyoffline
      @temporarilyoffline  Před 7 měsíci

      Oh, I see - the other side - the 15,30,45 are all the same size housing, the "spoons" for the 15 and 30 are the same I think and the 45 version are U shaped instead of round. You can get the legitimate powerpoles from mouser or powerwerx @@shadowlab9543
